The Two Rivers bow is the largest bow which appears in the Wheel of Time world, is called the “great bow”
(LoC, Ch. 49) and is said to be able to kill a man at over 300 paces. This is similar to the English Longbow, which was famous for its long range and high power in medieval warfare. Bows of this type can be used in a direct fire mode (fired flat towards a target that is nearby), in this situation the arrow is very fast and accurate and will penetrate an armored target easily. In battle, they are used at longer ranges in the same way artillery is used, fired upward and then arcing over and hitting a target from a high angle. This is how the extreme range is achieved, and it can be used to attack an formation in depth, with some bowmen attacking the front ranks and others hitting men to the middle and rear of a formation. In the Two Rivers area these bows are used for hunting primarily, and as a primary personal defense weapon for the bowman when in the field against single or a small # of attackers. Their great power makes them appropriate for the use by massed archers though as well.
Construction
The wood for the Bow itself is ideally Black Yew, a braided wood considered ideal for bow making (KoD, Ch. 6)

The bow’s stave was very large, when unstrung, taller than the man who uses it (TGH, Ch. 2).

Bowstrings were coated with beeswax (to make them water resistant).(TDR, Ch. 44) and used double broadhead points.

Timeline and References
Perrin Aybara was the 2nd best bowman in Emmonds Field among the younger men (TDR, Ch. 44).

Rand’s father Tam won the archery competition in Emmonds Field every year (EoTW, Ch. 1).

In the Siege of the Two Rivers (TSR, Ch. 56) the first arrow shots were at 400 paces during the Trolloc charge and is described as a “goose-fletched hail”. The majority of the attacking trollocs there were probably killed by arrows.

Perrin uses a Two Rivers Longbow to kill a Darkhound with 2 shots when fighting a pack Darkhounds with Moiraine Sedai in (TDR, Ch. 44). (Moiraine kills the other 9 in the pack with Balefire in this encounter).

Tam Al’ Thor, Rand’s father led the group of one hundred Two River’s bowmen who came to Rand & Perrin’s aid at the battle of Dumai’s Wells (LoC, Ch. 54,55).

In (KoD, Ch. 29), a Two Rivers bowmen led by Tam al’Thor attacks the Shaido at Malden, killing many in the assault to free Faile and others who had been previously captured by the Shaido remnants.

By late in the series, the crossbow is starting to replace the Two Rivers Bow as the dominant projectile weapon. In (KoD, Ch. 37), Mat uses crossbowmen with cranked crossbows to deliver similar power to massed bowmen in defeating Seanchan forces attempting to capture Tuon.
[49]) and said to be able to kill a man at over 300 paces. The bow’s stave was very large, when unstrung, taller than the man who uses it (The Great Hunt: Chapter 2). In the Two Rivers area these bows are used for hunting primarily, and as a primary personal defense weapon for the bowman when in the field.
Construction
The wood for the Bow itself is ideally Black Yew, a braided wood considered ideal for bow making (Knife of Dreams, Ch 6)
Bowstrings were coated with beeswax (to make them water resistant).(The Dragon Reborn, Ch 44) and used double broadhead points.
Perrin Aybara was the 2nd best bowman in Emmonds Field among the younger men (The Dragon Reborn, Ch: 44). Rand’s father Tam won the archery competition in Emmonds Field every year (EoTW, ch 1). Combat with Two Rivers Bows in the Wheel of Time:
In the Siege of the Two Rivers (The Shadow Rising: Ch 56) the first arrow shots were at 400 paces during the Trolloc charge and is described as a “goose-fletched hail”. The majority of the attacking trollocs there were probably killed by arrows.
Perrin uses a Two Rivers Longbow to kill a Darkhound with 2 shots when fighting a pack Darkhounds with Moiraine Sedai in The Dragon Reborn: Ch 44. (Moiraine kills the other 9 in the pack with Balefire in this encounter).
Tam Al’ Thor, Rand’s father led the group of one hundred Two River’s bowmen who came to Rand & Perrin’s aid at the battle of Dumai’s Wells (Lord of Chaos, Ch 54,55).
In Knife of Dreams, Chapter 29, a Two Rivers bowmen led by Tam al’Thor attacks the Shaido at Malden, killing many in the assault to free Faile and others who had been previously captured by the Shaido remnants.
By late in the series, the crossbow is starting to replace the Two Rivers Bow as the dominant projectile weapon. In Knife of Dreams, Chapter 37, Mat uses crossbowmen with cranked crossbows to deliver similar power to massed bowmen in defeating Seanchan forces attempting to capture Tuon.
A'dam

Caerwyn: Initial definition of a'dam

Author: Caerwyn Jolan

General
The a’dam is a ter’angreal composed of two pieces, used to control a woman who can channel Saidar, the female form of the One Power. It consists of a collar made of a silvery metal, worn by the woman being controlled and a bracelet worn by the woman controlling her. Men may not use an a’dam, although there is a male form of the device. The bracelet has different appearances, and may or may not be connected directly to the collar by a cord. Like all ter’angreal, it is constructed using the One Power in a manner not known since the Breaking of the World.

The first appearance of the a’dam is as a device used by Seanchan to control female channellers of the One Power, usually to use them in warfare. Seanchan have no Aes Sedai, rather all women are tested at an early age and the ones who can channel naturally become damane. Women who have the ability to channel, but cannot do so naturally, become sul'dam, users of the a'dam. Damane are considered property, and are generally used for the purposes of the Seanchan empire. Their use in warfare gives the Seanchan forces an enormous advantage, as the damane cause tremendous fear to enemy troops by channelling the One Power in battle to produce explosions, lightning, etc. at long distances. The terms damane and sul'dam are only used by the Seanchan, however in this article we use them to refer to the any two women using an a'dam.

Both women must be capable of channeling the One Power for the a’dam to function.

There are 2 primary effects of an a’dam:

The damane cannot channel on her own without being allowed by the sul’dam. It is possible to channel without a sul’dam wearing the bracelet but it causes the damane to become ill. In the Seanchan version of the device where the two halves are linked physically, the damane may not touch the bracelet side of the a’dam or move it without physical pain occurring, even if the sul’dam is not present and wearing it.

The sul’dam can cause the damane physical pain (or any sensation) through a’dam, as well as control her channeling. This allows a sul’dam who has no knowledge of channeling herself to channel the One Power for specific effects.

Like many ter’angreal, the a’dam can function in the World of Dreams as well.

Appearance and Uses
Egwene is captured to become a damane (TGH, ch 40)

Egwene’s training as damane in Falme (TGH, ch 42)

Nynaeve uses an a’dam in the World of Dreams to capture Moghedien, one of the female Forsaken. (FoH, ch 54)

Elayne finds the male version of an a’dam in the Panarch’s Palace in Tanchico (TSR, ch 54)

Miscellaneous
Seanchan test all women for ability to channel. All of the women selected to become damane would be considered "wilders" by the White Tower. The testing process and training as a damane prevents a signficant fraction of wilders dieing through uncontrolled experimentation with the One Power as happens in the world outside Seanchan.

The Seanchan also test to select women to become sul'dam, but do not realize that these women can be taught to channel the One Power. In fact, they do not realize that channeling can be taught at all.
