Jheran is an Aielman. He is the chief of the Shaarad clan (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 49). He was a member of the Sovin Nai society, the Knife Hands, before he became clan chief (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

Jheran is as slender as a blade, with light brown hair streaked heavily with gray and blue eyes. Rand describes him as whip-quick (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 57; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 52).

==Timeline==

-While at Cold Rocks Hold, Rhuarc tells Rand that Jheran and Bael are already at Alcair Dal and that Erim is on his way. Rand is worried, because he knows that the Shaarad and the Goshien have a blood feud; he is concerned that Jheran and Bael's warriors will start fighting. Melaine and Bair assure Rand that the Shaarad and Goshien are not like the Shaido, and Bair says that while Jheran and Bael might try to kill each other before they return to their holds, it will not be at Alcair Dal (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 49).

-At Alcair Dal, Jheran says that he wishes to discuss the water at Chain Ridge Stand. Bael turns towards him threateningly, so the dispute has to be something between the Shaarad and Goshien (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 57).

-Jheran, along with the other clan chiefs, is present when both Rand and Couladin claim to be the Car'a'carn. Like the other chiefs, he looks disapproving when he hears that Couladin claims to have gone to Rhuidean without permission from the Wise Ones and uncertain when Rand claims to have seen the history of the Aiel in Rhuidean, since this indicates that Rand is telling the truth. Like the others, he stands in stony silence when Rand reveals that the Aiel once followed the Way of the Leaf, but proclaims to the rest of the Aiel that Rand is He Who Comes With the Dawn (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 57).

-In Rhuidean, Rand holds a meeting with Bael, Bruan, Erim, Han, Jheran and Rhuarc. They talk about whether or not the other clans will join Rand, and also about the Shaido. Before the clan chiefs leave the meeting, Rand tells them to bring in the rest of the clans and to keep an eye on the Shaido (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 2).

-The clan chiefs inform Rand that Couladin is moving for Jangai Pass (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 6).

-After having left Rhuidean, Rand and the Aiel enter the nation of Cairhien (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 23).

-Jheran and Bael mend the blood feud between the Shaarad and Goshien clans (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 30).

-Rand meets with Bael, Bruan, Dhearic, Erim, Han, Jheran, Rhuarc, Lan and Weiramon to discuss the impending battle with the Shaido (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 42).

-On the day of the battle against the Shaido, the clan chiefs meet with Rand once more for a few final words, to report that their men are in position and ready (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 43).

-Jheran is now with Rand's army on the Plains of Maredo, along with Bruan, Dhearic, Erim and Han (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

-Rand meets with his forces on the Plains of Maredo, which are made up of Aiel, Tairens and Cairhienin. They discuss Sammael; Rand asks if the Forsaken has any new camps set up, but Jheran assures him that he doesn't. When Rand leaves after the meeting, the clan chiefs accompany him from the tent and speak some more of Sammael; Jheran thinks that they should go to Illian now to deal with Sammael, saying that they can destroy the Illianers before Weiramon and Semaradrid are even halfway to Illian, but Rand insists that they wait until Mat can join them. The clan chiefs agree, even though they think that they are wasting time (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

==Relationships==

There has been a blood fed between the Shaarad and Goshien clans for four hundred years (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 47; Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4). At first, Jheran and Bael simply suppress but do not forget the blood feud for the sake of He Who Comes With the Dawn (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 2), but Rand's ta'veren effect eventually causes them to mend the feud. However, they still do not like each other (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 30).

Despite the blood feud, Jheran and Bael seem to agree on quite a few things, and on more than one occasion the find themselves accidentally speaking, or almost speaking, that agreement aloud (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 2; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 23). They both agree that the Shaido are honorless dogs and that Rand should have let the Cairhienin starve (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 2), and both seem to disagree with Rand's declaration that the Cairhienin are not to be provoked (The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 23).

==Miscellaneous==

-Gaul tells Perrin that, although they tried to hide it, Rhuarc and Jheran were uneasy when they sent their Aiel across the Dragonwall to search for the Car'a'carn (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 28).

-He is always calm, now that the Shaarad's four-hundred-year blood feud with the Goshien Aiel has ended (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

"Cowardly snakes," Jheran barked. Gray streaked his light brown hair, there were no young men among Aiel clan chiefs. "Stinkadders, wriggling away from their own shadows." A slight shift of his blue eyes toward the far side of the carpet made it clear he meant it for a description of the Goshien, not just those who had thrown down their spears. On the other hand, Bael and Jheran had mended the blood feud between Shaarad and Goshien while he was with them, eating a midday meal of dried meat on the move. They still did not like each other, and hardly seemed to understand what they had done, but it was done, with pledges and water oaths given, each man holding the cup for the other to drink. To Aiel, water oaths were stronger than any other; it might be generations before Shaarad and Goshien so much as raided each other for sheep or goats or cattle. (Rand thinking about his ta'veren effect; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 30).

"Then let us go to Illian now," Jheran said. "Forget these wetlanders, Rand al'Thor. Already there are nearly two hundred thousand spears gathered here. We can destroy the Illianers before Weiramon Saniago and Semaradrid Maravin can be halfway there." (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

Jezrail is an Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah, and therefore aligned with Elaida's Aes Sedai. She is a dark and square-faced Tairen (KoD, Ch24).

She waits with Katerine Alruddin outside of Silviana's study to give Egwene her dose of forkroot tea before her lessons. They come in when Idrelle, Egwene's Accepted teacher, screams at her to follow her orders. Katerine sends Egwene off to Silviana and strikes her a few times across the bottom to quicken her pace, but Jezrail stops her, because she thinks it is not right to beat her more than need be (KoD, Ch24).

She is one of the six sisters to accompany Pevara to ask Taim for bonding Asha'man (KoD, Epilogue).

Rand sees her and the others at Culain's Hound in Caemlyn, where he terrifies them with the news that he is the Dragon Reborn. Alanna and Verin make them go to their rooms, and have tea with honey and brandy sent to them to help calm them down (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 10; Lord of Chaos, Chapter 11).

He looks after the horses alongside Aemin, Falton and three other farriers. They take care that Perrin does not "need" to shoe his horse himself, for example. They think Perrin is a lord and when he looks about to do their job it must be because he does not trust them (TPoD, Ch9).

Although his name is not directly mentioned at the time, he joins Bryne on his chase after Siuan, Min and Leane (TFoH, Ch1).

He camps with the others about two miles from Lugard while Bryne rides into the capital with Joni Shagrin and Barim Halle. When they return and prepare to set off west, Bryne starts telling stories about what they might see before the end of their journey. Thad Haren wants to remind him of an incident with Morgase, but Silvin kicks his ankle before the Queen's name falls, because he knows that it was a touchy subject for Bryne (TFoH, Ch12).

Jan is one of Min's aunts and a seamstress in Baerlon, Andor (LoC, Prologue).

She is gentle and kind, but has very strong notions of proper behavior (ACoS, Ch35). She, Miren and Rana have raised Min to be fair; the young woman lives by it, although she sometimes thinks her life would have been easier if she had not had this education (ACoS, Ch33). They also admonished her not to behave like a fluff-brained girl and Min still thinks of her aunts when she hears that word (TPoD, Ch27). Jan always said that what could not be mended must be lived with. Another piece of advise that Jan and Rana always gave Min was to never kiss a man if she did not intend to marry him, which is why Min does not want to know what her aunts might think of her relationship with Rand (ACoS, Ch19).

==Timeline==

- After Min's father died, she and Min's other aunts, Rana and Miren, tried to raise Min to be a "decent proper woman," which involved wearing dresses. They disapproved of her wearing breeches and working in the stables. Min, however, refused to be put into dresses as stubbornly as not learning to sew. The only time Min willingly wore a dress was during her time serving at tables at The Miners' Rest, but her aunts saw to getting her out of there quickly when they found out (ACoS, Ch2; ACoS, Ch35).

- Min started reading auras at the age of twelve; once, she saw a man and a woman in the streets and knew they were going to marry. However, the man was already married, but when he ran off with the other woman, his wife claimed Min that was responsible for this. If Jan had not promised to dose Min for spreading tales and her other aunts had not convinced her to say that she overheard the couple talking, Min would have been hurt, or even killed. Her aunts knew the truth, but they wanted to make the other people believe that Min did not know what she was talking about since she was still a child (ACoS, Ch2).

He is generally believed to be dead. Theories have been proposed that Jain recently appeared again under the name of Noal Charin, although the latter claims to be a cousin of Farstrider (KoD, Ch6).

His wife died of a fever while he was traveling the world (KoD, Ch6).

- Around 955 NE, shortly before Malkier fell, he captured Cowin Gemallan and brought him to the Seven Towers in chains (EotW, Ch47).

- He published "The Travels of Jain Farstrider" in 968 NE. This is a book of travel stories and observations, (TDR, Glossary) such as adventures among the Sea Folk and journeys to the lands beyond the Aiel Waste (TGH, Ch31).

- Nearly twenty years ago, Farstrider entered Stedding Shangtai. He was near death, though without any outward sign, but he recovered quickly. He intended to carry a message about the Dark One to Tar Valon (EotW, Ch42).

- His Travels are very popular. Many people like them and they often appear in an inn's library. Who owns a copy: Tam (EotW, Ch5), Basel Gill (He also owns "Voyages among the Sea Folk"; EotW, Ch36), Tiedra (TGH, Ch31), Ailhuin (TDR, Ch49), Tylin (ACoS, Ch21).

- His horse's name was Jeade'en, True Finder, because it was always able to find a way back home; Rand names his horse after Fairstrider's (TSR, Ch22).

Jaim Torfinn is a young man from the Two Rivers in Andor (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

He is one of the first men to ride with Perrin. After the rescue of the Cauthons and Luhhans from the Whitecloaks, Perrin chooses Jaim Torfinn and Hu Marwin to escort the rescued prisoners back to Emond's Field (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 33; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56). Jaim is actually referred to as "Haim" when Perrin sends him and Hu back to Emond's Field with the prisoners, but Perrin latter thinks to himself about Hu Marwin and Jaim Torfinn missing the Trolloc ambush in the Waterwood, so "Haim" is likely a typo.

Because Jaim and Hu did not participate in the Trolloc hunt, they feel too uncomfortable to join the Companions, as if the fact that they were not at the ambush has opened a gap between them and the other men who rode with Perrin (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

Perrin sees Jaim participating in the big battle against the Trollocs (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

==General==

Jaim Dawtry is a man from the Two Rivers in Andor. The only time in the series that his name appears is during Egwene's Accepted test, but it is likely that he actually does exist, both because most of the other characters exist and because there are other Dawtry's in the Two Rivers.

During Egwene's Accepted test, Rand tells Egwene that, according to Jaim Dawtry, there is odd news from Baerlon; he claims that there is some big war taking up most of the world, and that everyone is fighting someone named the Shawkin or Sanchan or something like that. Rand thinks that Jaim sounded like a Coplin, spreading rumors.

==General==

Jaim Aybara is a boy from the Two Rivers (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 53).

Although Perrin does not recognize him, Jaim says to Perrin, "I'm your cousin, I think. Sort of, anyway". When Perrin hears this, he has to squeeze his eyes closed to keep the tears in (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

His hair is dark and curly (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

==Timeline==

-Jaim informs Perrin that there is someone moving in the Westwood. It turns out to be Loial and Gaul (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 53).

-During the big battle against the Trollocs, Jaim is sent to tell Perrin that someone is attacking the Trollocs, and that someone was heard shouting "Deven Ride" (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

-Jaim reappears to tell Perrin that the Trollocs are breaking and that men from Deven Ride have indeed arrived (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56)

Jaem is Vandene Namelle's Warder. He is old and bony with thinning gray hair, but hard as an old root (TGH, Ch22; LoC, Ch47; KoD, Ch14).

He lived with his Aes Sedai and her sister Adeleas in Tifan's Well (TGH, Ch22).

==Timeline==

- When Moiraine is attacked by a Draghkar, he and Lan kill it. Adeleas then tells Jaem to go and meet the villagers to assure them that nothing out of the ordinary has happened (TGH, Ch22).

- He arrives with Vandene and Adeleas in Salidar (LoC, Ch30) and accompanies them to Ebou Dar (LoC, Ch44) and then to the Tarasin Palace (LoC, Ch47).

- He accompanies Vandene and the others as they pay a visit to the Kin (ACoS, Ch31).

- He guards the rear with the other Warders when they pass through Aviendha's gateway to the farm, and then scouts ahead once they are through (TPoD, Ch1; TPoD, Ch2; TPoD, Ch3).

- When they arrive at the farm, the Kinswomen panic at seeing Aes Sedai and the Warders have to quiet them down again (TPoD, Ch4). When the Seanchan attack, they Travel to Andor and continue towards Caemlyn (TPoD, Ch6; TPoD, Ch20).

- After Adeleas' death, he guards Vandene even more intently than before (TPoD, Ch28).

- He converses with Vandene in the halls of the Royal Palace in Caemlyn (KoD, Ch14).

- He accompanies Vandene and the others when they want to capture the Black sisters. In Full Moon Street, he has a closer look at their house, but stays out, even when the Aes Sedai enter. He feels the instant when Vandene dies and the last that is seen of him, he is speeding off up the street towards the house (KoD, Ch31; KoD Ch32).

- When he finds out that Birgitte is also a Warder, he accepts her like a younger sister (LoC, Ch47).

- He gives some of Elayne's guardswomen lessons and is pleased to see how quickly they learn (KoD, Ch15).

==General==

Jac al'Seen is a man from the Two Rivers in Andor. He is a farmer who lives between Emond's Field and Watch Hill. His wife is Elisa al'Seen, and his mother is likely Astelle al'Seen. His cousin is Wit al'Seen (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32).

He is stocky with square shoulders. What little hair he has is gray (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32).

Tam calls Jac a "good man" since he took in his cousin Wit's family, as well as Flann Lewin's family, because of the Trolloc threat (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32).

==Timeline==

-Perrin and company stop at Jac's farm on their way to rescue the Cauthons and Luhhans from the Whitecloaks. Jac cautions Perrin to go to one of the villages, since there is trouble in the countryside. Everyone discusses whether or not Perrin is a Darkfriend, the Whitecloaks and Padan Fain. Jac and his wife believe Perrin when he says that he isn't a Darkfriend (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32).

-When Luc arrives at the farm, Jac and Elisa present their guests to him (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32).

-Perrin tries to convince the al'Seen's and Lewins to take their families to Emond's Field so that they have more protection against the Trollocs and the Whitecloaks. At first Jac is hesitant, but he finally sees sense. They plan to leave immediately; Jac thinks that they can make it to Jon Gaelin's farm before sunset (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 33).

-Perrin sees Jac with Wit al'Seen and Flann Lewin before the big battle with the Trollocs (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

-After the battle, Perrin notices that Jac is still alive, standing with an arm around his wife, with his sons and daughters around him with their wives and husbands (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

-The al'Seen farm is about as big as farms get in the Two Rivers, with three tall barns and five tabac curing sheds (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32)

-There is a clock on his mantle, evidence of his success as a farmer (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 32).

He shot Adine a hard look, and Flann put a hand on his wife's shoulder; she kept silent, but her lips writhed with what she did not say. Jac muttered to himself before continuing. "Even so, Perrin, I think we have a right to hear why the Whitecloaks are saying what they are. They accuse you and Mat Cauthon and Rand al'Thor of being Darkfriends. Why?"
