I found the first books in a norwegian translation at my local library when I was around 13. Read the first 3 or 4 books, and then gave up waiting for new ones to be published. A couple of years later I borrowed the entire series in english from a friend (book 1-10). And finally, when I was 19, I bought all the books (the black paperbacks with the wheel on the front), book 0-11. Since then, I've read them 3 times.

Yes, I was at Euro Party in the Netherlands this summer. I loved it, and though I was surprised at the level of drunkness, I will definitly do it again. Am currently planing to go to Euro Winter Party in Slindon. People should come to put RL names and faces on people they've seen online. I'm no good at remembering who people are, but having spoken to them RL helps. Besides, it makes people connect at a different level. And I also think people who wouldn't necessarily spoken on the boards get a chance to get together RL. Sometimes they end up married or bonded or first sisters later.

It was pretty good. I made some great friends as a Junior Member and learned a lot from all the Senior Members before me. As an Accepted, all my time was geared towards becoming an Aes Sedai, so I suppose the JM career was pretty fun!

Several. I've been to Dragon*Con a couple of years in a row, and then a few small local events. I loved them. They're both great in their own ways. D*Con is a little hectic, but you get to meet a lot of Tower people at once... Whereas the local meetings are... well, quieter, sort of, but definitely help to build a stronger bond between you and the other attendees, as there's more private time to just chat. I definitely recommend attending future events. After talking to the members everyday online, it's great to be able to attach a real person to the illustrated face.

At 41 I'm one of the older members on the site. When I was first raised Aes Sedai in March of 2006, it was as Aes Sedai of the White. In July of 2007 I returned to Accepted to re-explore my options because as much as I loved being White, I felt as if something was missing. That's when I found my home with the Blues. I don't regret for a minute the choices I've made here.

Gholam and Power Resistant Ter'angreal

==Aginor==

Aginor, one of the [[Forsaken]], was a respected biological scientist at the University of [[Collam Daan]]. He was often disciplined for experimentation on animals and chafed heavily under the constriction that there was nothing left to learn. In the first days of the Collapse, he furthered his unethical tests under the command of [[the Dark One]], creating first [[Trollocs]], then [[Myrddraal]] (an unintended throwback to the Trollocs' human ancestry, occasionally created through Trolloc breeding) and lastly ''[[gholam]]''. My theory is that in a quest for victory for the Dark One, Aginor was trying to create a [[Shadowspawn]] that could channel but be easily controlled. The theory is related to the idea that a gene exists that controls whether or not a person can channel and to what extent. Aginor was trying to maximize the inborn potential of the gene. Using other-worldly embryonic tissues, thus explaining the clay-like nature, Aginor spliced the gene representing [[the One Power]] potential in his attempts. In order to do this, Aginor needed a large amount of the power to be channeled at the gene. This resulted unknowingly in a Shadowspawn being created that was so filled with the power, that it was almost power resistant.

==''Gholam''==
The ''gholam'' appears throughout [[the War of Power]], although it is now used for a different purpose. The ''gholam'' was used to assassinate those who could channel. Of what has been gathered it appears that only two ''gholam'' survived [[the Breaking]], most likely kept alive in a stasis box ([[A Crown of Swords: Chapter 39|AcoS, Ch. 39]]). The ''gholam'' was, and is, an excellent assassin, using its ability to flow through any crack and also the ability to nullify channeling. When being channeled at, the ''gholam'' soaks up the Power, dissipating the weaves. The ''gholam'''s power gene seems to have been inverted, changing the function of the gene itself. The gene seems to now, instead of creating a source of the One Power, create a well to feed the One Power into. The idea that Aginor created the ''gholam'' is founded upon the information found in "Lord of Chaos", for [[Graendal]] thinks only a mad man like Aginor would have made the ''gholam'' ([[Lord of Chaos: Chapter 23|LoC, Ch. 23]]).

The physical attributes of the ''gholam'' are found within "The Path of Daggers." ''Gholam'' live on fresh blood. The can feel the One Power and even [[the True Power]] as an itch somewhat like Myrddraal do. They can detect the usage of the One Power over enormous distance - several miles ([[The Path of Daggers: Chapter 2|TPoD, Ch. 2]]).

==''Ter’angreal''==

This is very much like [[Matrim Cauthon]]'s [[foxhead medallion|medallion]] as well as other ''[[ter'angreal]]'', one known to be in the possession of [[Cadsuane Melaidhrin|Cadsuane Sedai]]. The medallion dissipates flows channeled at the bearer and at the medallion itself and it grows cold when dissipating flows of the power. This could be an inherent flaw or to allow the bearer to detect channeling. I believe that it is a reaction to the dissipation of the One Power flows. The medallion acts as a grounded capacitor of the One Power. It takes flows and puts them into a buffer to dissipate into the surroundings.

==Dissipation of the Power==

Both ''gholam'' and ''ter'angreal'' dissipate flows of the Power, the ''ter'angreal'' dissipating into its surroundings, the ''gholam'', into itself. The extreme similarity of the two acts much like two ''ter'angreal'' reacting to each other. When two similar ''ter'angreal'' are in the same room, a resonance can be felt. The resonance creates a field of energy between the two objects. This energy is evident between the ''gholam'' and the ''ter'angreal'', in that when the two come into contact the molecules of the weaker one is broken down. (**In technical terms, the activation energy of the carbon chains and rings that are the make up of the molecular structure of carbon based flesh is lowered and the energy of the subatomic particles is raised. In doing so, it allows for the separation of bonds, usually H20 and C2. The most often occurrences of this form of separation are usually burning or freezing.)

This accounts for when the medallion comes in contact with the ''gholam''; the ''gholam'' is burned. The medallion is trying to force a dissipation of the Power built up within the ''gholam''. The resonance and the dissipation work in conjunction to break down the cellular structure of the ''gholam''. The main point of this is to show the weak points of each. The medallion draws the flows into a buffer and by doing so gets cold. As all capacitors work there is a limit to how much can be drawn into the buffer. Once that point is reached anything further can harm the capacitor, in this case ''ter'angreal'', to the point of destruction. The ''gholam'' acts as a well, pulling the One Power into its self or its buffer until its buffer is full. Any further addition to the well will weaken its structure and its ability to dissipate, and will make it more susceptible to the possibility of it being destroyed using the One Power it draws in.

Cadsuane Sedai has been known to hold a power-resistant ''ter'angreal'':
“'If you wish to be truly foolish.’ Cadsuane smiled, a cold smile. She made no move to embrace the Source herself. One of her dangling hair ornaments, intertwined golden crescents, was cool on her temple.” [[Cadsuane's hair ornaments|Cadsuane's hair ornament]] grows cool when [[Alanna]] holds ''saidar'' ([[The Path of Daggers: Chapter 12|TPoD, Ch. 12]]).

Matrim Cauthon, after receiving the Foxhead medallion ([[The Shadow Rising: Chapter 24|TSR, Ch. 24]]), eventually finds out its use, as [[Moiraine]] is shocked when she tries to [[Healing|Heal]] Mat and nothing happens. After discovering the medallion's use, Mat opts to wear it for protection from Moiraine, or any other [[Aes Sedai]] ([[The Fires of Heaven: Chapter 42|TFoH, Ch. 42]]).

The physical evidence of the effect of the medallion on the ''gholam'' can be seen later in "A Crown of Swords." When Mat's foxhead medallion falls against the ''gholam'''s face, the medallion burns it severely ([[A Crown of Swords: Chapter 38|ACoS, Ch. 38]]).

Why Whites Go Black

Though for years many Aes Sedai refused to acknowledge the existance of the Black Ajah, it does exist. And though the existence of the Black Ajah has become clear, not very much is known about it or its members. There are twenty-one Aes Sedai (though some are deceased) known to be Black Ajah. They are listed below, grouped by their former Ajahs, although there are almost certainly more Black Ajah members who remain unknown - possible many times those listed here.

It's difficult to work out what percentage of each Ajah has gone Black because the Tower has never made clear the numbers of Aes Sedai in each Ajah, and because we do not know how many Black Ajah sisters there are. An educated guess puts the number of total Aes Sedai (in the Tower, in Salidar and traveling elsewhere) at around 1000 to 1200. It is known that the Red Ajah is the largest and that nearly 1 in 5 Aes Sedai is Red. This puts the number of Red Aes Sedai at 200-240. However, there are only 3 known Red sisters who turned Black Ajah.

If there are in fact no other Black Ajah members who were once Red, then only about 1.5 percent of the Red Ajah has turned Black. However, this number is probably inaccurate because it is so unlikely that only three former Red Ajah sisters joined the Black Ajah. A more likely guess would be closer to 5% and possibly higher, but this is only built off the assumption that there are at least ten more Black/Red Ajah members who we have not learned of.

It is even harder to guess the sizes of the other ajahs, even though we know that in order from the largest to the smallest they go Red, Green, Gray, Brown, Yellow, Blue, White. It is possible that Brown has the smallest percentage of Ajah members turning Black. But this is only a very rough guess, based on the fact that the Brown Ajah is in the middle size-wise and has the smallest number of members who've turned Black, out of all the Ajahs. However, the differences between the Brown Ajah and the Gray and Yellow Ajahs as far as size goes is completely unknown, as well as the fact that it is possible there are more who simply haven't been discovered yet.

The only other Ajah the size of which anyone can guess at is the White Ajah, because it is also the smallest. There are 20 known White Ajah members.

Of the 20 listed above, four are known to be Black Ajah, including Alviarin Freidhen, who is the leader of the Black Ajah inside the Tower. Also on this list there are only two White sisters who are known not to be Black Ajah. Seaine Herimon, White Sitter and Black Ajah Hunter. She cannot be Black Ajah because Alviarin does not recognize anyone but Talene (a Green Sitter) as Black Ajah among the Sitters. Also, Zerah Dacan, who cannot be Black Ajah because she swore on an Oath Rod and admitted that she was not, and the First Reasoner Ferane, as Mesaana is shown as upset that except for Galina, who got herself captured, none of the other Ajah Heads are Black. Among the rest of them, it is not known; it could be any of them.

There are not only twenty White Ajah members. A better guess would be anywhere between 40 and 80. If one assumes that there are at least 80 White Aes Sedai (which there may not be, this is only a guess, we only know there are at least twenty) and one also assumes that there are no other White Ajah members who are also Black Ajah members, then that means that already 5% of the White ajah has turned to the Black Ajah. If one goes on to try assuming there are only 40 White Sisters, and that there are no more than 4 White sisters turned to Black sisters, then that's 10% of the Ajah. These percentages include the absolute lowest number of White sisters who could have gone over to the Black Ajah, because it is simply fact that at least four have done so. There are probably more, and in that case, the percentage is even higher. Whether we assume four is the total number or that there are more doesn't matter, because it's still a higher percentage than any other Ajah no matter which way you work it. All the other Ajah's have had either four or fewer members go Black, and all of them have to have more Aes Sedai than the Whites because we know that the White is the smallest.

This creates the Question: Why have so many White Ajah members turned Black Ajah?

One theory is that the only reason for the high percentage is the small size of the White Ajah. In order for this theory to be true, there would have to be a similar number of Black Aes Sedai who turned over in each Ajah regardless of the Ajah's sizes, and then the Whites would have a higher percentage of members go Black, even if they don't really have any more members turn than any other Ajah. Say for example that there was a minimum requirement of four or five Black sisters from every Ajah, though no Ajah would have given more Aes Sedai to the Black, the percentages would all be skewed. This would also keep the members of the Black Ajah fairly well balanced. However this plan does have a flaw. Why would the Dark One (or his minions and Forsaken and darkfriends etc) be content to have only five (or possibly a higher number, ten, twenty etc) Black sisters from each of the ajahs, so that they were balanced and could keep it even between the Ajahs when there would be so many Aes Sedai in the other Ajahs to corrupt. And what would the Dark One want with balance and harmony and equality of separate Ajahs in the new Black Ajah anyway? It simply doesn't work... so there has to be some reason for the White sisters to specifically turn to the Black.

A possibility is that it is the personality of the White sisters which causes them to be more inclined to follow the Dark One. There is a possibility that because Whites are philosophers and thinkers, they may consider the situation very carefully (at least more carefully than members of the other Ajahs) and decide that the Dark One is more likely to win the Last Battle and so the logical choice is to side with him.
