==Overview==
The Company Commander is an [[Admin]] position in the [[Department of Membership]]. It is the membership administrator for all {{Gaidin}} of the Company. They watch over the Company, guide them, deal with administrative issues with them, keep track of them, and settle any disputes while encouraging them to remain active and involved in the Community at large. They also facilitate the guesting experience of all {{Soldier}}s and {{Accepted}}, both those guesting as well as those who have chosen to aspire to the Company. The Company Commander is also the person responsible for deciding when a Soldier or Accepted is ready for raising to become a full member of the Company.

*Check Director's email & forums daily in order to provide quick responses.
*Have frequent interaction with site members, helping to ensure there are active threads throughout the forum. Assist in drumming up excitement and participation.
*Help communicate news of site-wide events & announcements, to ensure all membership groups are aware and encourage participation
*Manage & lead a large team of Admins, including hiring & supporting them and their groups.

*Tact, diplomacy, and discretion are absolutely crucial in this position, as you'll be privy to information and decisions that normal members are not. You will be trusted with being able to see all of the forums on our boards, as well as access to private information about members and their interactions.

*Must currently be a Senior Member in good standing with a tenure of at least one year.

*Experience using Xenforo (our forum software), or moderation tools would be helpful.
*Familiarity with the Community's rules and Membership Manual are important.
*Ability to be objective and fair during discussions related to membership issues and conflict resolution. Conflict resolution skills are helpful.
*Tact, diplomacy, and discretion are absolutely crucial in this position, as you'll be privy to information and decisions that normal members are not. Maintaining the Tower Fundraiser

==General==
The main annual [[fundraiser]] is the Maintaining the Tower fundraiser held annually in the summer. It was formerly called the Annual Fundraiser and the Summer Fundraiser but in [[2014]] the name was officially changed to Maintaining the Tower. This annual fundraiser is aimed to cover the operational expenses of the community, funds the [[Robert Jordan Memorial Scholarship]], and ensures our ability to lock in the best pricing for future events.

==2020==
No fundraiser was held in 2020 due to the global hardship of dealing with COVID-19.

==2019==
In 2019 we became Ogiers to try to help save the mysteriously sinking Tower. Standard prizes were pizza gift cards and pizza socks, and the grand prize a private pizza party with the Amyrlin and Amyrlin-Elect, [[Rhed al'Tere]] and [[Serinia Edoras]], at [[Anniversary Party 2020]].

A total of $3,235.14 was raised.

==2017==
In 2017 there was no particular theme for the fundraiser, but the prizes were all decks of The White Tower CCG. Two standard prizes of Tower CCG starter decks were given away from start, as well as one grand prize of a Tower CCG starter deck including a personal character card for the winner. For each $500 donated above the original goal of $3500, another standard prize was added to the prize pot; for every $1000 above the goal, a grand prize was added.

A total of $4931 was raised, resulting in 5 grand prizes and 11 standard prizes being given out, with a standard prize draw from the donators.

This year took the form of creating a TarValon.Net Expansion Deck for Cards Against Humanity. The goal was to raise over $3500 and this goal was met. The number of cards created would depend on the amount raised:

Chocolate and bacon duked it out in an epic grudge match to see which sinful treat TarValon.Net members cherished most during the 2013 Annual Summer Fundraiser. A special forum for role-playing was established, Tarlomens Bridge, where members fought it out, Bacon Vs. Chocolate. An ambitious goal of $4,500 was set for this fundraiser, including €750. In total $3,822 and €311 were raised for a grand total of $4,238.74. This grudge-match also prompted chocolate-loving board member Caerwyn Jolan to do a sweet-tooth event, matching donations made in the name of chocolate with either a donation to the Tower or a sweet chocolate treat delivered to donating members.

Of the four companies, the San d'Ma Shadar are known as the 'muscle' of the White Tower. This is an oversimplification of an important characteristic lying just beneath the surface... survival. The SDS are the survivors: the jack-of-all-trades, master of none. They adapt and do what must be done to complete the task at hand, whether it be organizing others for an offensive or protecting one's Aes Sedai from harm. In the dreary months of 2004, it came to the administrators of TarValon.net that ''something'' was missing from their community, something integral. Throwing their primitive bones and casting shadows on screens with broken branches to attempt to decipher what could fill that god-shaped hole in their souls, they were interrupted all of a sudden! A holy and demonic light burst forth from the sky, destroying the Tower Library and several of the Dai M'hael's company scooters. Riding down on silver flaming horses crafted from platinum and sapphire, were seven heroes, nay, demigods with the power to right the wrongs and wrong the rights of TarValon.net, choosing to settle here within this community, to help save the people from themselves. Still, in true God-like fashion, shortly after arrival MDD gave up on any sort of organized or coordinated effort to instill hope in the spirits of the Tower or City.

Who would have thought it? After months of planning and discussion, TarValon.net’s newest company has arrived. Mahdi’in d’ma Dieb, meaning Seekers of the Wind, is its name. MDD, as it is becoming known, promises to become a new and dynamic part of the community, and the starting group of members is sure to give it a unique feel. Headed by Sataere Gaidin, this new company promises to be one of the most relaxed and humorous groups in Tar Valon. Sataere Gaidin, along with many of the senior admins including Jahem Gaidin, the new Honour Guard, has spent many hours developing the idea of the new company, sorting through the masses of suggestions fielded by Senior Members. With a rough idea in mind of what they wanted the company to be, the team of admins sorted through the mountains of applications, endeavouring to find the best balance of people to place in the new company.

The result of this is a bunch of men who are almost uniquely suited to working together to build both a successful company and a closely bonded group. Almost immediately a friendly repartee was present in the company conversations. With members like Sunri Gaidin and Bale Gaidin, not to mention our Honour Guard, some of the finest sarcastic wit Tar Valon has ever seen is gathered in one place. Once this group of men came together, we finally began to be able to work out the details of what this company would be.

Mahdi’in d’ma Dieb is in essence a laid back and relaxed group. While mostly very high performers, they tend to only give their best when a situation is beyond any other remedy, forming a last line of defence against failure. A member of MDD is able to both take and give a joke with grace and at least a bit of style. The respect of a member of MDD is hard won, but when it is gained it is often gained for life. A member of MDD realises that while planning and thought might be useful, it is the calculated risk taken in the heat of the moment that separates success from failure.

The other less important details followed on from this. Blue and Platinum are the company colours of MDD, while it’s mascot is a fox. The company stone will be the Sodalite. The symbol created by Darim Gaidin is visibly recognisable in every MDD’s signature, and despite claims to the contrary, it is in fact a fox, not a bat as suggested by some.

The creation of this new company is likely to be a milestone in the history of Tar Valon, and all of the new members look forward to being a part of this new chapter in our history.

Some suitors didn't get the hint. Azrael had already found the love of his life but there was this other company that thought that persistance would pay off and 4 books didn't disabuse them of that notion. Nobody likes a 3rd wheel.

In its modern usage, Jalen denotes overconfident pride and arrogance; it is often associated with a lack of humility, not always with the lack of knowledge. An accusation of Jalenism often implies that suffering or punishment will follow, similar to the occasional pairing of Jalen and nemesis in the Greek world. The proverb "pride goes before a fall" is thought to sum up the modern definition of Jalen. It is also referred to as "pride that blinds", as it often causes someone accused of Jalen to act in foolish ways that belay common sense. In reference to someone being in Jalenity: jalenity is a fulfillment of being Jalenistic or a continual behavior of being prideful. Victor in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein exudes Jalen in order to become a great scientist, but eventually regrets this previous desire. Faustus in Christopher Marlowe's play Doctor Faustus exudes Jalen, all the way until his final minutes of life. Annabeth Chase's (of Percy Jackson and the Olympians) fatal flaw is Jalen.

=== Maeric ===

During the Days of Darkness when there were but three Companies of TarValon.Net, it was Foretold that a new Company would come to shake the pillars of the Heaven and Earth. And so it came to pass that Sataere the Cruel, Bale the Unforgiving, Sunri the Sly, Darim the Magnificent, Gwynidon the Hateful, al'Cary the Cunning, and Jahem the Indomitable rent the fabrics of reality and formed with their adamant hands, a new creation. It was a Company like none other. It was MDD.
There is but one Company and Maeric Kelskaith, called the Burninator and Voodoo Needler, is its Prophet.

A true prophet's prophet, Maeric is a swanky fellow. Though not a member of the Mighty 7, his application to the Company was one of predestination. Evaluating his merit and faith, the Mighty 7 inflicted upon him a grievous test of testicular fortitude during which he was sorely taxed. He felt their touch of ancient anger and the claws of undying sorrow. Recounting his trial, he was heard to say, "“The darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time, and I wandered far on roads that I will not tell. Naked I was sent back-for a brief time, until my task was done. And naked I lay upon the mountaintop. I can't really remember why I was naked or how I got on the mountaintop.”

Being the Prophet of MDD, Maeric has been endowed with a life that is an epitome of success. He was born under the pale light of the full Wyoming moon and the jackalopes sang in jubilation at his coming. He meteorically rose to become a facade of integrity for his intransigent Company. Each of the different phases of his life provide examples for anyone who wishes to emulate it for righteous living. The Prophet's character is naught but a paragon of virtue, a model for all men and a mannequin for all women.
At one particular Anni, Maeric's sacrosanct character and his regard for truth and honesty won him the epithet of "Burninator" from his compatriots and those in attendance for submitting the MDD Awards unto the cleansing flame. His supernatural skill in the occult art of Voodoo Needling, what he lovingly calls "Pinmanship," has dominated many in the ranks of the Tower including those within its very Adminstration.
Some say that he is a Lich and his life force is bound up in a magic phylactery. Some say that he's the only non-asshole of MDD. Some say "who is he again?" No one really knows for sure.

The illustrious Mathei Kardone joined the ranks of MDD some years after the initial crusades and their aftermath had cooled. He was something of a religious hermit and pilgrim, moving from one barren wasteland to the next, in search of the right place to sew his spiritual seed. In the fine company of MDD, he found his home. He founded a school, STFU, and invited all who had the courage and fortitude to come and learn from the fine men and their female compatriots in MDD. Some topics of instruction included: Texas Hold Em, Inflaming the Proletariat, and STD Awareness. Let none get in the way of his re-edification and transformation of the minds of TarValon.net's malleable masses, lest they face his awesome wrath.

Like a chill in your bones, Raam's presence fills you with dread. In MDD he is likened unto Death, roaming the vast wasteland of the internet spreading discord, loathing all whom his eyes fall upon. One day, he will scour the earth, except for his Chosen People. And from his depraved mind will rise forth a tempest on the day of the apocalypse, rending the flesh from the moronic, annihilating the souls of the pretentious, and destroying the hopes of billions. And no, he didn't steal any of this from God. God stole it from him.

This Department handles all of the administrative aspects of running our membership and fostering a sense of community within each rank. Whenever someone talks about "your membership/community administrator," they are speaking of the administrators within this group.
==History==

The department of Membership has always existed in one form or another since the creation of TarValon.net in 2001. Originally, the Keeper of the Chronicles was in charge of all Membership Administrators (Heads of Ajah, Company Commanders, Mistress of Novices and Captain of the Guard), but later the duties were split with the Master at Arms who took charge over the male half of the Tower. In 2006, upon the retirement of the Master at Arms, the duties were redistributed between the Director of Membership and the Director of Administration, the Master at Arms position was taken away completely, and the Keeper became an officer in charge of day to day operations of TarValon.net rather than focusing on Membership issues alone.

Members of TarValon.net who choose to join the Tower itself when raised to Senior member, join either one of seven Ajahs, based on the book Ajah, or one of four companies, each modelled on dominant personality traits.

The Department now contains sixteen administrators, oversees every step of membership from the initial application through retirement, has twenty-two staff members in the form of the Hall of the Tower (made up of the Hall of Sitters and Warder Council) and serves a membership of more than 1000 people.

Those new to the site join as citizens. Members can stay at this rank indefinately, or can join the Tower itself, where, dependant on their gender, they will progress through two junior member ranks to either Aes Sedai or Gaidin, at the discretion of the Hall.
==The Hall==

The Hall and Council (henceforth referred to as ‘the Hall’) serve as the main advisory board for the Administration. The primary task of the Hall is to provide counsel to the Mayor, Mistress of Novices, Captain of Recruits, Mistress of Accepted, Captain of Soldiers, and Director of Membership regarding applications for advancement within the membership structure.

The Hall also provides counsel whenever the Amyrlin Seat should desire it, such as for membership bans, dispensing emergency funds, selecting a scholarship recipient and other sensitive issues.

As with anything, the Amyrlin Seat has final authority and can choose to go against the Hall’s decisions if she needs to. This, however, is the rare exception rather than the rule.

The Hall votes on every level of advancement within TarValon.Net’s membership structure.

One of the oldest Ajahs at {{TV}}, the {{Blue2}} is the only Ajah to never have been headed by {{Eleyan}} under any of her counterparts. The original Blue Aes Sedai, [[Gwendolyne Manshiera]], helped found the tower with the Amyrlin over a bottle of Goldshlager.

Over the years, the Blue Ajah has evolved from one of the smallest Ajahs into the largest Ajah, with over 60 Aes Sedai at present.
