Shiaine Avarhin was an Andoran noblewoman and Lord Willim Avarhin's only child. Their sigil was the Heart and Hand.

After her father became impoverished, they had to live in a ramshackle farmhouse.
Mili Skane murdered Shiaine before adopting her name.
"He and his only daughter, the last of a declining line, had stayed in the country, far from anywhere their penury might be exposed, and now they were only bones buried in the forest near that farmhouse, and she was the Lady Shiaine." (Mili Skane about Willim and Shiaine Avarhin; Winter's Heart, Chapter 10)
Shevan is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah and is a Sitter in Elaida's Hall (TPoD, Ch. 25).

Shevan is very tall and thin. She has an angular face and a long chin and has a cap of curls. She has spidery fingers (TPoD, Ch. 25).

==Timeline==

* 999 NE: Shevan takes a chair in the Hall after the division of the Tower (CoT, Prologue).

* 999/1000 NE: Elaida forces Shevan to serve several days of Labour as penance (TPoD, Ch. 25).

* 1000 NE: Shevan meets with Elaida and several other Sitters to discuss important matters (TPoD, Ch. 25).

* 1000 NE: Shevan meets with Elaida and other Sitters to discuss the negotiations with the rebels (CoT, Ch. 21).

==Miscellaneous==

* Shevan can be very dry at times (TPoD, Ch. 25).

* Despite the trend of too young Sitters, Shevan is old enough to hold a chair and was very likely to go into the Hall even before the split (CoT, Prologue).

* Shevan supports the negotiations with the rebels (CoT, Ch. 21).

==Quotes==

"I'm uncomfortable saying what can and can't be. For example, not long gone, everyone "knew" only a shield woven by a sister could stop a woman channeling. Then comes along a simple herb, forkroot, and anyone at all can feed you a tea that leaves you unable as a stone to channel for hours." Shevan (The Path of Daggers, Chapter 25)

"No; according to Saerin, Shevan would likely have been her replacement when she decided to step down." Seaine to Yukiri about Shevan and Saerin (Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue)

"The Brown is quite clear on the historical precedents. You have all read the secret histories, or should have. Whenever the Tower has been divided against itself, disaster has struck the world. With the Last Battle looming, in a world that contains the Black Tower, we can no longer afford to remain divided a day longer than need be." Shevan (Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 21)
==General==

Sheraine Caminelle was once an Aes Sedai. However, she was captured by the Seanchan and collared. The sul'dam gave her a new name, Mylen (WH, Ch. 14).

Sheraine and her Warder were in Falme when the Seanchan ambushed them. Her Warder was killed while she was shielded and made damane (TGH, Ch. 43). Sheraine did not cooperate with the sul'dam holding her, refusing to eat and drink (WH Ch. 14). She was later taken to Seanchan, where she was bought by Tuon. All of the der'sul'dam expected her to die but Tuon persevered and trained her. Sheraine became the perfect damane and is Tuon's special pride. She was chosen to be one of the six damane to accompany Tuon back across the Aryth Ocean (WH, Ch. 14). Melitene chose her to be one of the damane involved in rescuing Tuon after her kidnapping (CoT, Ch. 4).

Sheraine is very short and a trifle plump. She is pale and has dark hair. From this description it seems likely that Sheraine is Cairhienin (WH, Ch. 14). She is pretty (TGH, Ch. 43).

==Timeline==

* 998 NE: Sheraine is captured by the Seanchan (TGH, Ch. 43).

* 998 NE: Sheraine is sent to Seanchan (WH, Ch. 14).

* 998/999 NE: Tuon buys Sheraine on the docks at Shon Kifar (WH, Ch. 14).

* 1000 NE: Sheraine accompanies Tuon across the Aryth Ocean (WH, Ch. 14).

* 1000 NE: Sheraine stays in the attic of the Tarasin Palace with the other damane (WH, Ch. 19).

* 1000 NE: Sheraine is one of the group of Seanchan sent to look for Tuon after she disappears (CoT, Ch. 4).

* 1000 NE: Sheraine accompanies Karede when he rides into Mat's camp to find Tuon (KoD, Ch. 36).

==Miscellaneous==

* When she was captured, Sheraine recognised one of the damane, Ryma Galfrey, and pleaded for help (TGH, Ch. 43).

* Sheraine reminds Mat of Moiraine (WH, Ch. 28).

* She is not as strong in the One Power as Sera nor as agile in her weaving as Charral (WH, Ch. 14).

* Sheraine knows the weaves for Healing (KoD, Ch. 25). She also knows the weaves for Sky Lights (KoD, Ch. 36).

* Since Sheraine is an Aes Sedai, she is useless as a weapon, a fact that is very ashamed about (KoD, Ch. 36).

==Quotes==

"The pale little damane had been half-dead with shock and fear, refusing to eat or drink, when Tuon bought her on the docks at Shon Kifar." Tuon about Sheraine (Winter's Heart, Chapter 14).

"Guisin and Mylen- I did know her as Sheraine Caminelle, but she do answer only to Mylen, now- those two would betray us." Teslyn to Mat (Winter's Heart, Chapter 19).

''Author: Atarah al'Norahn''

==General==

Shemerin is an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah who sides with Elaida when the White Tower splits (TSR, Ch. 47).

Shemerin is described as being plump, with a strain of anxiety often around her eyes (TSR, Ch. 47; TFoH, Prologue). Nynaeve thinks that Shemerin can be fluttery for an Aes Sedai (TFoH, Ch. 9).

==Timeline==

* Shemerin is with Elaida when Siuan is shielded and taken from her office (TSR, Ch. 47).

* Shemerin meets with Elaida and her other supporters to discuss what is going on in the world; she states that the last thing they need is another army on the march (TFoH, Prologue).

* During the meeting, when Elaida starts to talk about the Dragon Reborn, Shemerin clasps her plump hands tightly together. When Elaida forces all of the present Aes Sedai to look at the painting of Rand on her wall, claiming that cowards are of no use to the Tower, Shemerin wrings her hands and tears well up in her eyes. Finally, as Elaida continues on about Rand, Shemerin's knees give way and she sinks to the floor. When Elaida dismisses them, Joline helps her to her feet. Elaida decides that something needs to be done about Shemerin (TFoH, Prologue).

* Through the Tel'aran'rhiod version of Elaida's study, Elayne finds a note saying that Shemerin is to be arrested and demoted to Accepted (TFoH, Ch. 49).

* Later, also through the Tel'aran'rhiod version of Elaida's study, Sheriam finds a note saying that the Accepted Shemerin has run away (LoC, Ch. 7).

==Miscellaneous==

* Elaida thinks that Shemerin will do nicely as her next example to the other Aes Sedai (TFoH, Prologue).

* Elaida thinks that Shemerin is too weak to be on her council (TFoH, Prologue).

* Shemerin taught Nynaeve about the Yellow Ajah's eyes-and-ears signs (TFoH, Ch. 9).

* When Elayne and Nynaeve tell Sheriam and company that Shemerin is to be demoted to Accepted, they do not believe it (LoC, Ch. 7).

* Egwene uses Shemerin's demotion to sow more discontent with Elaida in the Tower. She tells Pritalle Nerbaijan that if Elaida can demote Shemerin to Accepted, her power has no limits. She sometimes risks comments about Shemerin around other Aes Sedai, as well, and tells Beonin to have the rebels in the Tower do the same. At one point she even asks Silviana about it (KoD, Ch. 24).

* When Egwene asks Siliviana how it was possible for Shemerin to be demoted to Accepted as there is no provision for such a move in Tower law, Silviana replies that there is no provision, but that Elaida used a loophole, upon which she does not elaborate. Silviana thinks that the problem was that Shemerin accepted the demotion; other sisters told her to ignore the edict, but instead she moved into the Accepted's quarters (KoD, Ch. 24).

* When Shemerin accepted Elaida's edict, some of the sisters tried to make Shemerin see sense, and sent her to Silviana for punishment (KoD, Ch. 24).

==Quotes==

"The last thing we need now is another army on the march," Shemerin, the Yellow sister, said quickly. A slightly plump woman, she had somehow never really managed the outward calm of Aes Sedai; there was often a strain of anxiety around her eyes, and more so of late." (Shemerin to Elaida; The Fires of Heaven, Prologue).

"Slowly they raised their eyes, shuffling feet like nervous girls instead of Aes Sedai. Only Alviarin merely looked, and only she appeared untouched. Shemerin wrung her hands, and tears actually welled in her eyes. Something would have to be done about Shemerin." (Elaida; The Fires of Heaven, Prologue).

"A ripple of unsteady curtsies, breathy murmurs of "As you command, Mother," and they came close to running, Joline helping Shemerin wobbling to her feet. The Yellow sister would do nicely for the next example; some would be necessary, to make sure none of them slid back, and she was too weak to be allowed in this council. Of course, this council would not be allowed to continue much longer in any case. The Hall would hear her words, and leap." (Elaida; The Fires of Heaven, Prologue).

"Elayne very nearly ground her teeth. She and Nynaeve had told them Elaida was reducing Shemerin, a Yellow sister, to the Accepted, but of course they had not believed. An Aes Sedai could be made to do penance, she might be cast out, but she could not be demoted short of stilling. Only, it seemed that Elaida was doing exactly as that, whatever Tower law said. Maybe she was rewriting Tower law." (Elayne; Lord of Chaos, Chapter 7).

"The problem was that Shemerin accepted it. Other sisters told her to ignore the edict, but once she realized pleading wouldn't change the Amyrlin's mind, she moved into the Accepted's quarters." (Silviana to Egwene; Knife of Dreams Chapter 24).
==General==

Shaidar Haran means "Hand of the Dark" in the Old Tongue (LoC, Prologue). He looks like a Myrddraal, except that he stands head and shoulders taller than any other Myrddraal (LoC, Prologue). He is able to disappear into shadows (LoC, Ch. 6). He can distinguish between saidar and saidin, but can't tell one flow from another (ACoS, Ch. 40). He also wants to break free from the tie that binds him to Shayol Ghul; he becomes weak when he's away too long (ACoS, Ch. 40).

==Timeline==

* Shaidar Haran guides Demandred to see the Great Lord (LoC, prologue).

* Appeared to Osan'gar and Aran'gar (LoC, prologue).

* Appears to Semirhage while she is torturing an Aes Sedai (Cabriana Mecandes), and tells her to wring every bit of information out of the woman, and tell him (LoC, Ch. 6).

* Guides each of the surviving Chosen to the Great Lord (LoC, epilogue).

* Takes Moghedien to the Great Lord, where a cour'souvra, or mind trap, is made from a scraping of her tongue, and blood from her ear (ACoS, Ch. 25).

* Turns Moghedien over to Moridin, and gives the mind trap to him (ACoS, Ch. 25).

* Watches Sammael and Graendal send the Jumai Shaido through numerous gateways, spreading them all over the countryside (ACoS, Ch. 40).

* Appeared at the meeting between Graendal, Moghedien and Cyndane, where he issues the command for Graendal to appear before Moridin (TPoD, Ch. 12).

* Appears when Alviarin uses a ter'angreal to call Mesaana; when Alviarin is about to be punished by Mesaana for calling her, Alviarin is marked by him so that Mesaana cannot harm her (CoT, Ch. 21).

==Relationships==

* Obeys only the Great Lord (LoC, prologue).

* Is shown preference when the spikes in the ceiling of the tunnel to the Great Lord clear his head by two hands or more, when they often brush the heads of the Forsaken (LoC, prologue; ACoS, Ch, 25).

* Claims Alviarin as his own, and sets her the task of finding out who is hunting the Black Ajah, and to bring them to him (CoT, Ch, 21).

* Alviarin believes that he is indeed the Great Lord, in the skin of a Myrddraal (CoT, Ch. 21).

==Quotes==

"You are marked as mine," the Great Lord rasped. "Mesaana will not harm you, now. Unless I give her permission. You will find who threatens my creatures here and deliver them to me." (Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 21)

"I am Shaidar Haran." Stopping by her servants, the Myrddraal bent to grip them by the backs of their necks, one hand to each. "When I speak, you may consider that you hear the voice of the Great Lord of the Dark." Those hands tightened to the surprisingly loud sound of cracking bone. The young man spasmed as he died, kicking out; the young woman merely went limp. They had been two of her prettiest. The Myrddraal straightened from the corpses. "I am his hand in this world, Graendal. When you stand before me, you stand before him." (The Path of Daggers, Chapter 12)

The Myrddraal moved from the deeper shadows, becoming visible. In its eyes, the gateways had left a residue - three patches of glowing mist. It could not tell one flow from another, but it could distinguish saidin from saidar by the smell. Saidin smelled like the sharp edge of a knife, the point of a thorn. Saidar smelled soft, but like something that would grow harder the harder it was pressed. No other Myrddraal could smell that difference. Shaidar Haran was like no other Myrddraal. (A Crown of Swords, Chapter 40)

It flowed across the hallway in that eye-wrenching way, ebon cloak hanging in denial of motion. One moment it was a statue ten paces away, the next it loomed over her so she had the choice of backing away or craning her neck to look up at that dead-white, eyeless face. Backing away was out of the question. "You will drain her completely, Semirhage. You will squeeze her dry, without delay, and tell me every scrap that you learn." (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 6)
Seta was captured by Nynaeve, Min, and Elayne in Falme. The two accepted found out that the a'dam worked on the sul'dam (TGH, Ch. 45) and used Seta to get into the damane quarters to free Egwene (TGH, Ch. 46). Seta is left collared and found by another sul'dam Alwhin (WH, Ch. 20).
Sergase Gilbearn is a minor Andoran noblewoman. She is one of the nobles who opposed Gaebril (LoC, Ch. 28). She supports Elayne's bid for the throne (KoD, Ch. 17).

She is a small, slim woman with dark hair that is lightly touched with white (KoD, Ch. 17).

==Timeline==

* Reene Harfor tells Rand that several nobles who had opposed Gaebril, Sergase among them, have arrived in Caemlyn. She has not presented her respects at the Palace (LoC, Ch. 28).

* Upon learning of the siege of Caemlyn, Sergase rides to Elayne's support, bringing with her all twenty of the armsmen in her service, and does not turn back on learning the odds (KoD, Ch. 17).

* On her way to the Map Room, Elayne stops to exchange pleasantries with her (KoD, Ch. 17).

* When Birgitte arrives at one of the Traveling grounds to lead the soldiers in the rescue of Elayne from the Black Ajah, she finds all of the lords and ladies loyal to Elayne gathered and mounted. When her banner appears, she moves her horse forward a few paces as if she means to join her armsmen, but stops herself (KoD, Ch. 32).
==Miscellaneous==
==General==

Serafelle is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah (TGH, Ch. 4).

She believes that there are more books lost or forgotten than anyone could credit waiting to be found again (TGH, Ch. 37).

==Timeline==

* Sheriam says that Serafelle has told her the Aiel were in retreat (NS, Ch. 6).

* She is part of the Amyrlin's entourage that arrives at Fal Dara (TGH, Ch. 2).

* On her way to the audience with Siuan, Moiraine sees Serafelle sitting in the anteroom and reading an old, tattered book. She did not even notice Moiraine's entrance, when she greeted the present sisters (TGH, Ch. 4).

* Serafelle is the only other sister who has seen the Prophecies of the Shadow, but she is not interested in anything that has not already been put in a book (TGH, Ch. 7).

* Serafelle was one of the sisters to Heal Mat from the taint of Shadar Logoth. After that, she talks with Verin about the Old Blood (TDR, Ch. 18).

==Quotes==

"Rand al'Thor. It does not sound like a name to inspire fear and set the world on fire." She gave another shiver and rubbed her arms briskly, but her eyes suddenly shone with a purposeful light. "If he is the one, then we truly may have time enough. But is he safe here? I have two Red sisters with me, and I can no longer answer for Green or Yellow, either. The Light consume me, I can't answer for any of them, not with this. Even Verin and Serafelle would leap on him the way they would a scarlet adder in a nursery." (Siuan about Rand being the Dragon Reborn; The Great Hunt, Chapter 5)

"Serafelle is not really interested in anything that someone hasn't already set down in a book, preferably as long ago as possible. She thinks there are enough old books and manuscripts and fragments scattered about, lost or forgotten, to equal ten times what we have gathered in Tar Valon. She feels certain there is enough of the old knowledge still there to be found for -" (Verin about Serafelle; The Great Hunt, Chapter 7)
Senine din Ryal is a Windfinder on a soarer, one of the Sea Folk's smaller vessels. She was Windfinder to the Mistress of the Ships before Nesta din Reas, but when the Mistress of the Ships died, she had to start from the bottom rank again. She has weathered cheeks and thickly grayed hair and once wore more than her present six earrings, which were thicker then. Her chain held more medallions, as well (TPoD, Ch. 2; WH, Ch. 11).

==Timeline==

* Although not directly mentioned, she is one of the twenty Windfinders to accompany Nynaeve and Lan to the Tarasin Palace as agreed to in the Bargain with the Mistress of the Ships (ACoS, Ch. 37). On Renaile's agreement, the Windfinders accompany Elayne and Nynaeve wherever they will go to activate the Bowl of the Winds (ACoS, Ch. 39).

* Among the group of Windfinders, she rides through Aviendha's gateway from the Tarasin Palace to the Kin's farm (TPoD, Ch. 1; TPoD, Ch. 3), where they arrive already so bruised from riding that Nynaeve Heals them (TPoD, Ch. 4). When the Seanchan attack the farm (TPoD, Ch. 6), she Travels with the others to Andor, riding toward Caemlyn (TPoD, Ch. 20) and eventually arrives at the Royal Palace (TPoD, Ch. 28).

* She sits to Zaida's left during Nynaeve's lessons with the apprentices (WH, Ch. 11).

''Author: Ilissa al'Nari''

==General==

As is typical for the people of Cairhien, she is short (PoD, Ch. 8), pale-faced with dark eyes and dark hair. The first time we meet her she has her hair long and put up in the Cairhienin style, gaining her an extra foot at least (FoH, Ch. 51), but as she becomes more and more fascinated by the Aiel she wears her hair like the maidens; cut short except for a tail tied with a ribbon at the nape of her neck (PoD, Ch. 8). Faile thinks of her as diminutive (PoD, Ch. 8) while Perrin uses the word slender (WH, Ch. 6.)

She pretends to be as comfortable with changing in front of men as she thinks the Maidens are, but her facial expression and hurried breath belies her. Faile thinks of her as brightest, quickest and steadiest of the Cha Faile, even if she wants a scar like the ones some of the Maidens have. She is concise in her reports (PoD, Ch. 8.) Despite being only a minor Cairhien noble - she only has six slashes of color in her bodice/coat - (LoC, Ch. 19) she has full control of Cha Faile despite the fact that some of the others are from major Cairhien houses (WH, Ch. 6.)

==Timeline==

* After Rand has taken control over Cairhien, Selande Darengil is made to approach him in a scheme of Colavaere Saighan's, whose retainer she is. Rand understands what the reason for her interest is and scares her away by pretending to be affected by the madness afflicting men who can channel (FoH, Ch. 51).

* She, like other Cairhienin young nobles, rebels against the ban on dueling Rhuarc has made in Cairhien, and as punishment she is submitted to part of the process of being made gai'shain, namely sitting a day naked in the sun under guard. Afterwards, she boasts of the experience to another woman who has also adopted some of the Aiel customs - or at least what they believe are Aiel customs (LoC, Ch. 50.)

* When Rand returns from his captivity with the sisters sent by Elaida, she and some other minor nobles belonging to the 'societies' of young nobles pretending to be Aiel meets him and leads him into the Grand Hall (AcoS, Ch. 4.) They have all started dressing like Aiel; the men as well as the women wear snug-fitting breeches and mens coats. They also wear swords buckled around their hips. Selande and some of the others follow Perrin and Faile back to their room after the meeting in the Grand Hall, and do not leave until Faile tells them to obey her husband (AcoS, Ch. 5.)

* Together with two dozen others, she follows Perrin and Faile when they leave Cairhien to go to Ghealdan. Faile has taken them into her and her husbands service (LoC, Ch. 27). Faile uses her and the others as spies and near to the town of Bethal, she reports in some news in the middle of the night and is shocked when she receives the new ones. She does not object, however (PoD, Ch. 8.)

* After Faile is taken by the Shaido, the horses of Selande and her companions are taken away. They go to Perrin to demand them back but end up promising to obey him until Faile has returned (WH, Ch. 6.) She continues to spy, now for Perrin, and brings back news about Masema's meetings with Masuri and Annoura just outside of the small village Brytan. During the two weeks or so that has passed since Faile was kidnapped, she has begun to respect Perrin and his leadership (CoT, Ch. 8.)

==Relationships==

She flirts with Rand on orders of Colavaere Saighan right after he has taken over control in Cairhien (FoH, Ch. 51), but is a bit jealous of the relationship Min has with him as well (AcoS, Ch. 4.)

She is the leader of Cha Faile - after Faile herself, of course - and has a firm grip. (PoD, Ch. 8) She is sworn to Faile by water oath (WH, Ch. 6) but gradually extends the same to Perrin as well (CoT, Ch. 5)

==General==

Selame is one of Egwene's maids. Lelaine picked her out among the refugees and gave her to Egwene as a present. In actuality she is a spy for Lelaine. She is rail-thin with a dark Tairen complexion and a long nose (ACoS, Ch. 10).

Chesa thinks that Selame carries her nose in the air, but knows at least what is expected of a lady's maid, so she and Meri will work to settle her down (ACoS, Ch. 8). Egwene, however, does not see any of Selame's arrogance she displays around the other maids. Selame is self-assured, but she acts very obsequiously around her patroness. According to Egwene, Selame has very little sense, is constantly fussing over her and chattering brainlessly, while performing her duties diligently. Egwene is not sure whether or not Selame really is an idiot (ACoS, Ch. 10).

==Timeline==

* Lelaine decides that Egwene needs another servant and finds Selame among the refugees in the villages. Egwene thinks that so many maids are unreasonable when she cannot see the soldiers paid halfway to Tar Valon (ACoS, Ch. 8).

* Selame is waiting in Egwene's tent to undress her for bed (ACoS, Ch. 10).

* Chesa reports to Egwene that Selame has run off, much to her distress. It is unclear whether she really has run off or whether Aran'gar killed and disposed of her in the snow (TPoD, Ch. 16).

==Miscellaneous==

* She shares a tent with Chesa and Meri (ACoS, Ch. 8).

* She favors beaded caps as headpieces (ACoS, Ch. 10).

* She is always concerned with appearances and what the upper class people might think. For her, no one else but Aes Sedai, nobility and their servants matter (ACoS, Ch. 10).

==Quotes==

"Except for the brainless chatter, Selame performed her duties diligently, if with so many flourishes they became a dance of grand gestures and obsequious curtsies. It seemed impossible that anyone could be as silly as Selame, always concerned with appearances, always worrying over what people would think." (Egwene on Selame; A Crown of Swords, Chapter 10)

''Author: Atarah al'Norahn''

==General==

Samitsu Tamagowa is an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah from the nation of Arafel. She has hazel eyes (CoT, Ch. 24). Like most Arafellin's, she adorns her hair with bells. (CoS, Ch. 36.) She has dark hair, and is considered to be very pretty.

Samitsu is extremely gifted when it comes to Healing. She is known as the best Healer in centuries, and can Heal almost as well as a linked circle. (CoT, Prologue.) When she sees Flinn save Rand with his Healing, she whisks him off to find out what he did. (CoS, Ch. 36.)

Samtisu holds many of the personality traits common to Aes Sedai. She is unused to being thought of as a fool, and as can be expected, dislikes it greatly. She also hates failures, particularly when it comes to Healing, and also hates remembering failures. (CoT, Prologue.) Cadsuane thinks that Samitsu is observt, intelligent and strong-willed, but she can suffer the most astonishing collapses in her self confidence and sometimes needs help regaining her composure (CoT, Ch. 24).

==Timeline==

* Samitsu partially Heals Rand after Fain attacks him with the ruby dagger. (CoS, Ch. 36.)

* Samitsu is left in charge of the Sun Palace by Cadsuane. (CoT, Prologue.)

* Samitsu Heals Dobraine, saving his life. (CoT, Prologue.)

* Samitsu rides to Tear with Logain, Bashere and others. She tells Cadsuane about the Asha'man bonding Aes Sedai. Cadsuane tells her to go back to Cairhien to keep an eye on Sashalle. (CoT, Ch. 24).

==Relationships==

Samitsu is one of Cadsuane's followers. In the Prologue of Crossroads of Twilight, she thinks, "this was not the first time she had been pulled into one of the legendary Green's designs." When Cadsuane leaves the Sun Palace, she leaves Samitsu in charge.

Samitsu seems to dislike Sashalle, Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah, very much. An apprentice to the Aiel Wise Ones, one of the Aes Sedai that was stilled, and then Healed by Damer Flinn, she acts like she is the one in control, which angers Samitsu.

==Miscellaneous==

* Samitsu's warder is named Roshan.

* Samitsu does not like Cairhien whatsoever.

==Quotes==

"This," Samitsu said in a lecturing tone, lightly touching the scar, "seems like a cyst, but full of evil instead of pus. And this. .." She drew the finger down the gash. "...seems full of a different evil." Suddenly she frowned at the green standing over her, and her voice became sullen and defensive. "If I had the words, Cadsuane, I would use them. I have never seen the like. Never. But I will tell you this. I think if I had been one moment slower, perhaps if you had not tried first, he would be dead now. As it is..." With a sigh, the Yellow sister seemed to deflate, her face sagging. "As it is, I believe he will die." (Samitsu; A Crown of Swords, Chapter 36.)

"You are the best living, perhaps the best ever. No one has the Healing to compare with you. (Cadsuane; A Crown of Swords, Chapter 36.)

"If only there was some way you could show me! But you will describe it. You must! I will give you all the gold I possess, bear your child, whatever you wish, but you will tell me all that you can." (Samitsu to Damer Flinn; A Crown of Swords, Chapter 36.)

"When Cadsuane had departed a week pat, leaving her in charge, her task had appeared straightforward. Make sure the Cairhienin pot did not begin go boil again. That had appeared a simple task at the time, though she had seldom dabbled in politics to speak of." (Samitsu; Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue.)

"How could any Aes Sedai swear fealty to anyone or anything other than the White Tower itself? How in the Light could a Red swear to a man who could channel? Maybe Verin had been right about ta'veren twisting chance. Samitsu could not begin to think of any other reason for thirty-one sisters, five of them Red, to take such an oath." (Samitsu; Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue.)

"She felt a faint shiver at the thought, but only faint, and it would be less if she ever managed to work out how Damer Flinn had Healed what could not be Healed. At least someone could Heal stilling, even if it was a man. A man channeling. Light, how the horror of yesterday became merely the uneasiness of today, once you grew accustomed." (Samitsu; Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue.)

"An instant later, glad shouts and cheers broke out, and she heard her name nearly as often as Dobraine's. Very gratifying. It would have been more satisfying if Sashalle had not smiled and given her an approving nod. Approving! And why not a pat on the head, while she was about it?" (Samitsu; Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue.)

''Author: Meilen Gevedon''

==General==

Sebban Balwer was the secretary and true spymaster for Pedron Niall, the former Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light. (LoC, Prologue.) He is described as pinch-faced, prim, and dried-up, with a disapproving mouth. (LoC, Prologue, Ch. 9) Multiple characters also depict Balwer as a 'dry little stick of a secretary' and 'purse mouthed.' (ACoS, Prologue.) He is almost always compared to a bird in every description. (WH, Ch. 2) Balwer always wears a plain brown coat. (WH, Ch. 1)

After he helped Morgase and her companions to leave the Fortress of the Light during the Seanchan invasion, they ran across Perrin and his army, and now Balwer works as a secretary of sorts for Perrin. (TPoD, Ch. 9)

Balwer is said to never believe anything he hears until he has seen or witnessed it. (LoC, Ch. 9) He never likes admitting that he cannot figure something out or find some piece of information. (LoC, Ch. 9) He is an extremely competent spymaster, and has agents everywhere, even in Tar Valon. (ACoS, Prologue.)

==Timeline==

* Balwer's agents are responsible for Estanda and Tesodian joining Darlin and creating a rebellion. (LoC, Ch. 9)

* Niall trusts Balwer and gives him the treaty that Morgase signs. (LoC, Ch. 31)

* Balwer finds Pedron Niall dead. (ACoS, Prologue.)

* Balwer produces a way for Morgase and her companions to get out of the Fortress of the Light during the Seanchan raid. He does this to "repay" Eamon Valda. (ACoS, Ch. 26)

* Perrin rescues Balwer, Morgase, Lini, Tallanvor, Gill, Lamgwin, and Breane from followers of the Prophet at a stone goat pen. The group decides to stay with Perrin. (TPoD, Ch. 7)

* Balwer offers Perrin his services as a secretary and a gatherer of information. He also gives Perrin some information regarding the Seanchan and the Children of the Light. Perrin decides that Balwer detests the Children of the Light for some unexplained reason. (TPoD, Ch. 9)

* Perrin allows Balwer to go around the town of Aliba and gather information while Perrin is meeting with Masema. (TPoD, Ch. 30)

* Balwer goes to see one of his eyes and ears agents while Perrin and company are in So Habor. (CoT, Ch. 25)

* Balwer sends Latian to tell Perrin that his friend is not in So Habor and so he will need to stay there for a few days to wait for his friend. They stay there for three days and return to Perrin with Tallanvor and news of the Seanchan. (CoT, Ch. 27)

==Relationships==

Perrin trusts Balwer and sees his usefulness. (WH, Ch. 6; CoT, Ch. 6) Balwer also enjoys working for Perrin because Perrin is straightforward, unlike Niall.

Balwer does not particularly like Niall because he knows that Niall has other agents and does not always regard his advice in the highest esteem. Niall sees him as a useful person. (LoC, Ch. 9)

Eamon Valda dislikes Balwer because he sees him as useless. (ACoS, Prologue.)

Morgase, Lini, Breane, Tallanvor, Gill, and Lamgwin are suspicious of Balwer even though he helped them. Tallanvor believes Balwer is going to try to get a reward for rescuing the Queen of Andor. (TPoD, Ch. 8)

==Miscellaneous==

* Balwer dry washes his hands when he feels insulted. (LoC, Ch. 9)

* Balwer is from Amadacia. (LoC, Ch. 9)

==Quotes==

"Niall eyed the man who had entered so silently. On the face of it, it hardly seemed possible that Balwer could move without a dry rustle announcing his presence. Everything about him was narrow and pinched; his brown coat hung from knobby shoulders, and his legs looked as though they might snap under his desiccated weight. He moved like a bird hopping from limb to limb." Niall, describing Sebban Balwer. (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 9)

"The man would not show surprise one day if a horse spoke to him." Pedron Niall, after telling Balwer some astounding information and noting the 'secretary's' reaction. (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 31)

"Even so, Perrin thought Balwer saw more than [Morgase/Maighdin] did. He could not say why, precisely, but the few times he had caught the bony little man's scent, he had been minded of a wolf testing the air. Strangely, there was no fear in Balwer, only quickly suppressed ridges of irritation shot through with the quivery smell of impatience." Perrin, speaking about Balwer. (The Path of Daggers, Chapter 8)

"Balwer seemed to hate the Children of the Light, most especially Valda- a matter of rough treatment somewhere in his past, Perrin suspected- but like everything else about the man, it was a dry, cold hate. Passionless." Perrin, describing Sebban Balwer. (Winter's Heart, Chapter 1)

==General==

==Relationships==

(TPoD, Ch. 8)

==Miscellaneous==

* Balwer dry washes his hands when he feels insulted. (LoC, Ch. 9)

* Balwer is from Amadacia. (LoC, Ch. 9)

==Timeline==

(CoT, Ch. 27)

==Quotes==

==General==

Sareitha Tomares is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah. She has only been a sister for a few years; she looks slightly older than Nynaeve. She is a dark, stocky woman with inquisitive brown eyes (CoS, Ch. 15). She has a dark, square face (CoT, Ch. 11). Sareitha is from Tear originally. She has not yet gained the agelessness of face that comes from years of working with saidar (CoS, Ch. 30).

Her Warder is Ned Yarman (WH, Ch. 7).

==Timeline==

* Sareitha Tomares is in Ebou Dar. She is part of the group of sisters the Little Tower sent to Queen Tylin of Altara (CoS, Ch. 15).

* After Elayne and Nynaeve have found the Bowl of the Winds and started preparing to use it, Sareitha is part of the "court" of sisters who question Elayne and decide what should be done with her for endangering Aes Sedai secrets, such as that about the Kin. Sareitha recommends no leniency and that Elayne should be confined until they all return to the Little Tower. Along with Adeleas, Careane, Merilille and Vandene, she is set straight by Elayne and told that she will now obey Elayne and Nynaeve, as they stand higher than the others (CoS, Ch. 30).

* Sareitha accompanies the other sisters to meet the Kin and invite them back to join the Little Tower. She is amazed by the number of women the Kin claim to have and doesn't believe it (CoS, Ch. 31).

* Sareitha is placed in charge of the Bowl of the Winds and carries it with her (PoD, Ch. 1).

* Sareitha makes it known that she feels Aviendha's name should be in the book of novices. She feels the Kin cannot be trusted because some of them claim to be a hundred years older or more than any known living Aes Sedai. She doesn't believe that can be possible and so doesn't trust them (PoD, Ch. 2).

* After using the Bowl of the Winds, the Aes Sedai are attacked by raken. The Seanchan use them and will surely be heading to the hilltop where so much saidar was channeled a short while before (PoD, Ch. 5).

* Elayne volunteers Sareitha to help teach the Sea Folk channeling (WH, Prologue).

* Sareitha accompanies Elayne through Andor. She advises her to be careful of possible attempted abductions by Elaida or others trying to keep her from ascending the throne of Andor (WH, Ch. 7).

* Sareitha encourages Elayne to prepare plans for a flight from Andor should the Seanchan attack. She is particularly concerned with some of the books from the palace library. Sareitha is one of three sisters suspected of murdering Adeleas Sedai, sister of Vandene, and Ispan (CoT, Ch. 11).

* Sareitha and Careane are still with Elayne in Caemlyn. They try to find out information about Merilille and Talaan, but with no success. When Elayne goes to speak with her mercenary captains, Sareitha and Careane are sitting with them; Captain Bakuvun complains that all they have done is try to put them in awe of the White Tower (KoD, Ch. 14; KoD, Ch. 16).

* Sareitha is murdered by the Black Ajah when she goes with Elayne to capture Falion and Marrillin (KoD, Ch. 31).

==Quotes==

"Cold Streets don't compare to a warm fire and an interesting book," Sareitha put in idly, as if talking to herself." (Winter's Heart, Chapter 7)

"A wise man always stands in awe of the Tower," Sareitha said calmly, shifting her brown-fringed shawl, perhaps to draw attention to it. Her dark, square face lacked the ageless look as yet, and she admitted yearning for it. (Knife of Dreams, Chapter 31).
==General==

Sarainya Vostovan is a Kinswoman and a Wise Woman in Ebou Dar. She is strikingly handsome with a husky voice. She is weak in the One Power (ACoS, Ch. 24).

Although she had been a noble in her native land of Arafel, before she joined the Kin, she wears her hair loose, so as not to attract attention (ACoS, Ch. 24).

==Timeline==

* Sarainya joins the Kin around 950 NE (ACoS, Ch. 24).

* Sarainya brings news to the Knitting Circle about the Kinswoman Callie. She has been found dead, killed by saidar (ACoS, Ch. 24).

* Sarainya is at the farm when Elayne and her party arrive (TPoD, Ch4) and Travels with them to Caemlyn when the Seanchan attack (TPoD, Ch. 6).

* When Kirstian Chalwin and Zarya Alkaese are discovered to be runaway novices, Sarainya and Asra are not at all content with turning two Kinswomen over to the White Tower and propose to stand against the Aes Sedai. They are quieted by Alise and Reanne with an order to cut themselves a switch that is to be used later that day (TPoD, Ch. 28).

==Quotes==

"As usual, Sarainya swept right in before Reanne could say to admit her. In some ways, the strikingly handsome woman made Garenia appear supple, despite keeping the form of every rule exactly. Reanne was sure she would have worn her hair in braids and bells given the choice, and never mind how that would have looked with her red belt. But then, given the choice she would not have served even one turn with the belt." (Reanne thinking about Sarainya; A Crown of Swords, Chapter 24)

Neither strong enough to become Aes Sedai nor nearly old enough to stand very high among the Kin, she still stepped from the pack defiantly. "Why should we give them up to the White Tower? We have helped women run away, and rightly so! It is not part of the rules to give them back!" (Sarainya about Kirstian and Zarya; The Path of Daggers, Chapter 28)
Sara is the cook in Stag and Lion inn in Baerlon. She appears only in one chapter, EoTW, Ch.15. She is described as being a plump woman. She is a good cook who knows her own value. She is friendly to Rand and doesn't mind too much of Rand having witnessed a confrontation between her and Master Fitch. She has an old cat named Cirri and is very attached to him.

Rand happens to be there when Master Fitch comes to complain to her of her cat. People had complained about finding dead rats in the inn. Sara threatens to leave, but Master Fitch manages to calm her down again.
"You mustn't take any mind of what you saw now. Master Fitch is a good enough man, though the best of you aren't any bargains. And over a dozen? Cirri wouldn't let so many get into the inn, he wouldn't. It's a clean place, too, and not one to be so troubled. And all with backs broken."
Saml Hake is the innkeeper of the Dancing Cartman in Four Kings, Andor. He is bony with long stringy hair to his shoulders.

He is unfriendly and greedy. Even his appearance - being the first skinny innkeeper Rand has ever seen - forebodes ill for the young Two Rivers men.

After searching every inn in Four Kings, Rand and Mat ask for a room or a pallet in Hake's inn and offer to entertain his patrons. Grudgingly at first, he agrees to give them a pallet when the last customer is gone. The way Hake eyes the heron-mark sword makes it clear for Rand that the innkeeper intends to rob him. Late at night, he leads the two boys into an old storeroom where they may spend the night.
==General==

==Relationships==

==Timeline==

(CoT, Ch. 24).

==Miscellaneous==

* Samitsu's warder is named Roshan.

* Samitsu does not like Cairhien whatsoever.

==Quotes==

Salita Toranes is an Aes Sedai and Sitter of the Yellow Ajah. She sided with the Salidar Aes Sedai when the White Tower split. (CoT, Ch. 17)

Having only worn the shawl for thirty-five years, Salita would normally be too young to be a Sitter, yet she is part of the disturbing trend of Sitters being too young for the position. (CoT, Ch. 17)

Salita is round-faced and almost as dark as charcoal. (CoT, Ch. 17) She is plump. (KoD, Ch. 23)

Salita usually supports Egwene in the Hall, though not about asking Aes Sedai to make cuendillar for sale. (CoT, Ch. 17)

Salita doesn't follow Romanda in the Hall, even though Romanda is her head of Ajah. (KoD, Ch. 23)

Salita does not believe that Nicola should be allowed to remain in the rebel camp, let alone gain the ring or the shawl. She thinks that she is impatient and deceitful. (CoT, Ch. 17)

==Miscellaneous==

* Salita does not have the strength in Earth to be able to make cuendillar. (CoT, Ch. 17)

* Salita thinks that the Salidar Aes Sedai should have kept an age limit on the women who enrolled as novices. (CoT, Ch. 17)

* Salita was appalled to find out that Egwene had licensed negotiations with the White Tower Aes Sedai. (CoT, Ch. 19)

* Salita shares a tent with Romanda and Magla. (KoD, Ch. 23)

* Salita is frivolous enough for a Green. (KoD, Ch. 23)

* Magla insisted that Salita should be given a chair in Salidar. Romanda thought otherwise but Magla's suggestion carried more weight because Romanda was not a Sitter at the time. (KoD, Ch. 23)

==Quotes==

"Salita was part of a disturbing pattern: too many Sitters who were too young for the position. Salita had only been Aes Sedai for thirty-five years, and rarely was a woman given a chair before wearing the shawl for a hundred or more." Egwene (Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 17)

"She was one of those Yellows who seemed to think the other Ajahs were only adjuncts to her own, which of course had the only truly useful purpose among them." Egwene (Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 17)

"Romanda sat frowning up at Salita, who was staring straight ahead, her face grey and her lips trembling.
''Author: Eireann Namar''

==General==

Saerin Asnobar is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah, as well as a Sitter in the Hall of the Tower. She was born in Altara, an innkeeper's daughter. Saerin has olive skin and dark hair with some white at the temples. She also has a dueling scar on one cheek and is known for carrying a knife, fingering it when she becomes angry.

The Daughters of Silence first trained Saerin in the One Power during 794-798 NE. She became a novice when the group was discovered and broken up by the White Tower. She was the only member to attain the shawl (TPoD, Ch. 26). In ca. 960 NE, Saerin was selected to be a Sitter for the Brown Ajah. She has held this position for 40 years, longer than any other Sitter currently in the Hall. Among the Sitters, Saerin is known for her temper (TPoD, Ch. 26), which is quite volatile for an Aes Sedai of her standing.

In ca. 999 NE, Saerin, along with her fellow Sitters, Yukiri, Doesine, and Talene, discover Pevara and Seaine, two other Sitters, in the Tower's cellars (TPoD, Ch. 26). After discovering that Seaine was hiding the Oath Rod, Saerin persuades Yukiri and Doesine to join the others' search for the Black Ajah, uncovering Talene's true allegiance in the process.

Currently, Saerin Sedai has taken charge of the Sitters' search for the Black Ajah. During this search, she used the Oath Rod to pledge to tell only the truth, declaring herself not to be a darkfriend (TPoD, Ch. 26). Saerin is truly the leader of her group's mission, although she listens to the opinions of Pevara and Yukiri, since they are comparably strong in the Power. For example, it is Saerin's decision not to tell the Amyrlin about Talene being a darkfriend until they are able to expose the entire Black Ajah (WH, Prologue). Also, she has to give Seaine permission to leave her rooms when her life may be in danger (CoT, Prologue).

==Timeline==

* 794-798 NE - Saerin receives training in Saidar from the Daughters of Silence, a group led by two Accepted put out of the Tower.

* 798 NE - Saerin is forced to enter the White Tower as a novice once the Daughters of Silence are broken up by Aes Sedai.

* Ca. 960 NE - Saerin is selected to represent the Brown Ajah in the Hall of the Tower.

* 999-1000 NE - Saerin discovers that two other Sitters are hunting the Black Ajah in the Tower. She joins and takes over the lead of their search.

==Quotes==

"Saerin was Altaran, slight touches of white at her dark temples, emphasizing a thin age-faded white scar across one olive cheek, and only a Warder could match her for scowling." (The Path of Daggers, Chapter 26)

"Saerin had had to fight harder than most for the shawl, for the right to remain in the Tower at all. To her, the Tower was more than home, more important than her own life." (Winter's Heart, Prologue)

"Thank you both," Saerin put in dryly, "for stating the obvious. It's too late to go back, Yukiri, so we might as well go forward. And if I were you, Pevara, I wouldn't be shouting at one of the four women in the Tower I knew I could trust." (Winter's Heart, Prologue)

"Elaida's proven herself a fool," Saerin said, "and more than once I've regretted standing for her, but I'll not believe she's Black, not without more than that." (Winter's Heart, Prologue)
==General==

Rana is one of Min's aunts and is a seamstress in Baerlon, Andor (LoC, Prologue).

She is gentle and kind, but has very strong notions of proper behavior (ACoS, Ch. 35). She, Miren and Jan have raised Min to be fair; the young woman lives by it, although she sometimes thinks her life would have been easier if she had not had this education (ACoS, Ch. 33). They also admonished her not to behave like a fluff-brained girl and Min still thinks of her aunts when she hears that word (TPoD, Ch. 27). One piece of advise that Rana and Jan always gave Min was to never kiss a man if she did not intend to marry him, which is why Min does not want to know what her aunts might think of her relationship with Rand (ACoS, Ch. 19).

Alivia reminds Min of her aunt, although Rana does not have blue eyes and golden hair. It is more the air that both women have of always seeming to know when someone has done something wrong and always seeing to that person never wanting to do it again (WH, Ch. 33).

==Timeline==

* After Min's father died, she and Min's other aunts, Jan and Miren, tried to raise Min to be a "decent proper woman," which involved wearing dresses. They disapproved of her wearing breeches and working into the stables. Min, however, refused to be put into dresses as stubbornly as not learning to sew. The only time Min willingly wore a dress was during her time serving at tables at The Miners' Rest, but her aunts saw to getting her out of there quickly when they found out (ACoS, Ch. 2; ACoS, Ch. 35).

* Min started reading auras at the age of twelve; once, she saw a man and a woman in the streets and knew they were going to marry. However, the man was already married, but when he ran off with the other woman, his wife claimed that Min was responsible for is. If Rana had not convinced Min to say that she had overheard the man and woman talking and her other aunts had not promised to punish her for spreading tales, Min would have been hurt, or even killed. Her aunts knew the truth, but they wanted to make the other people believe that Min did not know what she was talking about since she was still a child (ACoS, Ch. 2).

* Min knows what her aunts will think if they ever find out about Min being "comforted" by Rand, a man she is not married to. She is certain they would immediately set off from Baerlon to skin both of them alive (ACoS, Ch. 35).
==General==

Rainyn is a Windfinder on one of the Sea Folk's smaller vessels. She is young and apple-cheeked with half a dozen ornaments on her nose chain. She is as strong as Lelaine or Romanda (TPoD, Ch. 2; KoD, Ch. 32).

First it is said that she works on a darter, the Sea Folk's smallest of vessels (TPoD, Ch. 2) and later she is referred to as serving on a soarer (WH, Ch. 11).

==Timeline==

* Although not directly mentioned at the time, she is one of the twenty Windfinders to accompany Nynaeve and Lan to the Tarasin Palace as agreed to in the Bargain with the Mistress of the Ships (ACoS, Ch. 37). On Renaile's agreement the Windfinders accompany Elayne and Nynaeve wherever they will go to activate the Bowl of the Winds (ACoS, Ch.

* She is part of the circle that activates the Bowl of the Winds (TPoD, Ch. 5).

* When the Seanchan attack the farm (TPoD, Ch. 6), she Travels with the others to Andor, riding toward Caemlyn (TPoD, Ch. 20) and eventually arrives at the Royal Palace (TPoD, Ch. 28).

* She is present at Nynaeve's lessons with the apprentices. She is the only one to show at least a little sympathy for Nynaeve (WH, Ch. 11).

* She is present when Birgitte demands a gateway big enough for a thousand soldiers of Chanelle and the Windfinders when Elayne is captured by the Black Ajah (KoD, Ch. 32).

==Quotes==

"The most junior of the Windfinders sat her horse even more awkwardly than Aviendha, whom she pretended to ignore on Elayne's other side just as she ignored the small green flies buzzing around her dark face. "Renaile din Calon Blue Star," she said stiffly, "demands that you snub in the Aiel woman, Elayne Aes Sedai." Aviendha grinned toothily at her, and Rainyn must have been watching at least a little, because her cheeks reddened beneath the sheen of sweat.

"Tell Renaile that Aviendha is not Aes Sedai," Elayne replied. "I will ask her to be careful," no lie there; she had, and would again, "but I can't make her do anything." On impulse, she added, "You know how Aiel are." The Sea Folk had some very odd ideas of how the Aiel were. Rainyn stared wide-eyed at a still-grinning Aviendha, her face going gray, then jerked her horse around and galloped back to Renaile, bouncing in her saddle." (Rainyn delivering Renaile's demand and Elayne's reply; The Path of Daggers, Chapter 3)

A Myrddraal talks to him outside of his inn at night. From his words to a farmer later, the subject was about Rand and Mat. Holdwin is visibly nervous not only around the Fade, but also when Almen Bunt, the farmer, addresses him about it. They come to speak of what Holdwin's "strange friend" wanted: two young men, who stole a heron-mark sword from Holdwin's friend. They are supposed to be Darkfriends as well as followers of Logain and have sly tongues. Holdwin says that there is a reward on them and in case Bunt ever saw them he should let him know. Holdwin spreads some more curious tales about Rand and Mat, but Bunt does not believe him anyway (EotW, Ch. 34).

Bunt tells Rand and Mat that if he were out on the reward he would just go to Holdwin and tell him about the two, but he does not like the innkeeper much (EotW, Ch. 35).
Rahien Demain is the son of Ines Demain, a noblewoman from Chachin, Kandor. His father, name unknown, is dead (NS, Ch. 24).
Ines gave Rahien his name because she saw the sun coming up over Dragonmount when he was born (NS, Ch. 24).

* One day after the Aiel begin their retreat and Gitara Moroso has her Foretelling, Rahien is born to Ines Demain (NS, Ch. 23).

* Ten days after his mother goes into seclusion over his father's death, Moiraine and Siuan arrive in the Aesdaishar Place to find out if Rahien is the Dragon Reborn (NS, Ch. 23).

* Siuan learns that Rahien is not the one, as he was born almost two miles away from Dragonmount, in a farmhouse (NS, Epilogue).

==Miscellaneous==

* Although Moiraine and Siuan expect that Merean is a Black sister looking for the Dragon Reborn, she doesn't go near Rahien (NS, Ch. 25).

==Quotes==

"I found Ines Demain almost right off, but not where I can reach her. She's a new widow, but she did have a son, for sure. Named him Rahien because she saw the dawn come up over Dragonmount. Talk of the streets. Everybody thinks it a fool reason to name a child." (Siuan to Moiraine; New Spring, Chapter 23).

"Anyway, we can go whenever you're ready. Rahein was born in a farmhouse almost two miles from Dragonmount. Merean hasn't been near him, as of this morning. I don't suppose she'll harm him on suspicion even if she is Black." (Siuan to Moiraine; New Spring, Epilogue).
He was killed in the Two Rivers by the Whitecloaks; they caught him crossing an open field. Alanna felt every arrow that struck him until he died, but as she was not there, she could do nothing to defend him (TSR, Ch. 31).

Ihvon is more solicitious of Alanna than ever since Owein died (LoC, Ch. 11).

Alanna allows herself to weep occasionally since leaving the Two Rivers (LoC, Ch. 11). Some of the other Aes Sedai have differing opinions of what Alanna is feeling with Owein's death; Merana thinks that Alanna deserves a little upset for bonding Rand against his will, even if she did just recently lose a Warder, but Seonid speaks almost gently to her (LoC, Ch. 43).

Orander is a fictional character in a story entitled "Mara and the Three Foolish Kings". In the story, Mara steals the crowns of the three kings, making fools of them. When she tells the people of Heape about it, they refuse to accept any king at all.

The story is told by Thom several times throughout the series. He says that he will recite it to the people of Emond's Field (TEotW, Ch. 4); he tells it on the way to Baerlon (TEotW, Ch. 13); he tells it in Barthanes' manor (TGH, Ch. 34); he tells it in an inn named The Woman of Tanchico, in Tar Valon (TDR, Ch. 31); and he tells it in an inn named the Three Plum Court, in Tanchico (TSR, Ch. 39).

==Quotes==

"'It was as we have said it should be,' said King Madel, trying to untangle a fish from his long beard." Thom's voice seemed almost to echo inside a great hall, not an ordinary common room. His plucked harp sounded the three kings' final foolishness. "'It was as we said it would be,' announced Orander. And, feet slipping in the mud, he sat down with a great splash. 'It was as we said it must be,' proclaimed Kadar as he searched, up to his elbows in the river, for his crown. 'The woman knows not whereof she speaks. She is the fool!' Madel and Orander agreed with him loudly. And with that, Mara had had enough. 'I've given them all the chances they deserve and more,' she murmured to herself. Slipping Kadar's crown into her bag with the first two, she climbed back onto her cart, clucked to her mare, and drove straight back to her village. And when Mara had told them all that happened, the people of Heape would have no king at all." He strummed the major theme of the kings' foolishness once more, this time sliding to a crescendo that sounded even more like laughter, made a sweeping bow, and nearly fell off the table. (Thom tells the story; The Dragon Reborn, Chapter 31)
