Shaofan is one of Graendal's pets from Shara. He is very dark-skinned and beautiful with curly hair.
He was about to marry Chiape, before Graendal took them both out of Shara. Chiape would have reigned Shara absolutely as Sh'boan, a kind of empress, then died after seven years to pass on her rule to Shaofan, as he would have been her Sh'botay, the male counterpart of a Sh'boan.
He insists that deaths that happen every seven years to the monarch of Shara are the Will of the Pattern.
