Stories say that Ghoetam sat for forty years under Avendesora to gain wisdom. When Rand and Mat are in Rhuidean and find the Tree of Life, Rand thinks he can almost believe those stories.

This story could be a real-world reference to Siddhartha Gautama, who sat beneath the Bodhi tree for forty nine days before gaining Enlightenment.
