Brown Recipes

All the talk of Holiday treats brought out some great recipes for yummy deliciousness!

Rice Porridge contributed by Taika

This recipe is for two people. You need:

  • 3dl water (1 ¼ cups)
  • 1,5dl porridge rice (I don't know what it's called over there, sort of sushi rice. Important is that it's sticky ) (3/4 cups)
  • about 7dl milk (3 cups)
  • some salt

First get the water boiling in a kettle, then add the rice and let it soak in the water for 5 minutes. Then add most of the milk (like 5dl or so), and let it stew on a low heat (like 2 out of 6) under the lid, and remember to stir from time to time (as milk burns so easily). When most of the water & milk has evaporated, add the rest of the milk and salt, and let the porridge stew until it's porridge-y.

Peanut Butter Fudge contributed by Nary

  • 1 cup peanut butter (I use organic)
  • 1 cup honey (raw, local honey is best)
  • 1 cup carob powder or cocoa mix (carob is my favorite, but you use whatever you like)

Heat peanut butter and honey on stove just long enough to melt everything together. DO NOT BOIL. Immediately remove from heat and stir in carob powder or cocoa. Refrigerate overnight or freeze for two hours if you can't wait that long.

Tikidrinkdecsnow.png

For many the Holidays are a time to spend with family. After a little while one of these aptly named Tiki drinks may be needed…

Painkiller

  • 2 oz Dark Rum
  • 2 oz freshly squeezed Pineapple Juice
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed Orange Juice
  • 1 oz Cream of Coconut Liquor

Shake all the ingredients with ice and serve over lots of ice in a Collins glass or tiki mug. Garnish with a Pineapple wedge.

This was the best conversation in our random thread of randomness… I had to share it! Must...keep...from...murdering co-workers....
What's a little murder between friends? I'm sure they'll get over it.
I'm too pretty for prison
Sweetie, that's what we're for. To help hide the bodies.
Let's get to work then!
Just tell me where to dig...
I love you guys
I love me too
OH WAIT. ....
I love you guys!
Also, you know that I know all about hiding bodies. NOT THAT I HAVE HIDDEN ANY. I would never ever do that. Ever.
I would hide a body for you any time. :waggle
You make it sound so pervy. On the one hand you're offering to hide dead bodies, but that :waggle emoticon makes it seem so wrong (in all the right ways)

Brownoutsdecsnow.png

I just had a really weird brownout. I put a pot of water on to boil. It boiled, I added my noodles, turned it down a little, then went to sit at my computer. I went to check and stir it a few times... and then realized that the pot was no longer bubbling. Somewhere in there, I had turned it off. I'm not quite sure how that happened. ~Yarrow

I was sitting watching tv, waiting for my water to boiling so I could make some oatmeal and the water was taking forever to boil... then I realized that I'd forgotten to turn the stove on ~Keladria

I think exams must be getting to me, because I had another Brown out. I put a frying pan on.... and wondered why it wasn't getting hot. I had turned on the wrong element. ~Yarrow

Yesterday I put my headphones on and plugged them into my computer - and then 20 mins later wondered why there was no music... I'd never opened iTunes ~Alaria

I think most of my Brown Outs are either glasses or coffee related. Today I was making notes of my motive analysis work, and scanning & cropping and generally working with the music example pictures. This is sometimes very frustrating, because I'm not too good at working with pictures, and even though Gimp is a nice software, it sometimes confuses me. Anyway, I thought I'd need some coffee, so I made some, all the while thinking of the picture problem I was working with. The coffee was ready and I took a mug, and returned to my desk. It only took about 10 minutes to notice I'd forgotten to pour the coffee into the mug.

Yesterday evening I forgot to take my glasses off when I got to sleep. Only when I turned to one side, and the frame was uncomfortable between my tired head and the pillow I noticed this. ~Taika
