Minamo "Minamo-chan"
Minamo is the mascot for Japan's 2012 National Sports Festival and the 2012 National Sports Festival for People with Disabilities taking place in Gifu Prefecture this year.
The Sports Festival takes place in a different prefecture every year, with competitions spread throughout towns and cities in the prefecture. The National Sports Festival took place from August 29th to October 9th, 2012 and the National Sports Festival for People with Disabilities took place from October 13th to October 15th, 2012. It was preceded with a torch relay performed by students and volunteers in many cities and towns in Gifu.
Minamo-chan also spent the year leading up to the Sports Festival attending school sports festivals and other events performing his signature Minamo Dance' and Minamo exercise.
Kassina Tendar has been quoted saying "Minamo-chan is absolutely adorable. I love all the cute Minamo-chan merchandise that has cropped up as a result of the sports festival taking place in Gifu this year."
Minamo-chan himself was unavailable for comment.
