Overview

Chat Operators are staff members in the Department of Moderators and Operators who oversee our chat rooms.

Department: Department of Moderators and Operators

Position Level: Staff

Rotation: 6 month rotation

Merit Eligibility: Staff Merit

Chain of Command

Chat Operators report to the Director of Moderators and Operators.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Moderate the chat rooms and keep them family friendly.
  • Diffuse any flare-ups that might occur between members.
  • Enforce chat and Tower policies.

Expectations

  • Must possess tact.
  • Must be someone who frequents chat regularly.
  • To moderate in our #wanderingwoman chat room, you must be 18 or older.

Time Commitment

Qualifications

  • Must be a member of at least 6 months.

History

Many of the previous Ops are unknown, and for others start or end dates are uncertain. Before the formation of the Department of Moderators, Community Admins were also Ops be default. Until November 2011, Ops reported to the Mistress of Chat, but when Miriya stepped down, it was decided that an intermediary position was not required. It was decided at the Fall 2013 Admin Meeting that it was not necessary to have different Ops for each room, and that the Ops would be global. It was also decided at the same time that there would be rotating terms for Chat Ops.
