Coine din Jubai Wild Winds is the Sailmistress of the raker Wavedancer and the sister of Jorin. Her husband and Cargomaster is Toram. She has black hair touched with gray and large brown eyes. She wears four small golden earrings in each ear (TSR, Ch. 19).

She keeps a Seanchan helmet as a reminder of their attack (TSR, Ch. 19).

Timeline

  • In 998 NE she encountered a Seanchan ship and had to kill the crew before they could take Wavedancer from her. In the same year she docked at Tanchico where refugees almost flooded her vessel wishing to be taken away from there (TSR, Ch. 19).
  • She welcomes Nynaeve and Elayne onto her ship and talks with them about the gift of passage. Since they serve the Coramoor, as she puts it, she changes her plans for sailing and takes no gift for it (TSR, Ch. 19).
  • She comes to Elayne and Nynaeve to tell them that Thom and Juilin have asked for passage, but she will send them away if the women wish it. After a talk, they agree to take them along (TSR, Ch. 20).
  • When they dock at Tanchico, Coine tells Elayne and Nynaeve that she will be sailing to Dantora, the Aile Jafar, Contorin and the Aile Somera, spreading the news of the Coramoor (TSR, Ch. 39).

Quotes

"I have the helmet to remind me, and the sea took the Seanchan, the Light be merciful to all who sail. I will not go close to a vessel with ribbed sails again" (Coine on the Seanchan helmet in her cabin; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 19)
