This month we could think of no better forum to focus on than Local Events. The Local Events forum is a place for site members to arrange unofficial get-togethers with other site members. .These events are not officially sanctioned by TarValon.Net but they are a great way to get to know other members and to see good friends. Be they near or far, Local Events are one of the things that keep our community connected.

Local Events range from simple (game night), to moderate (attending an event), to complex (a weekend getaway). Some members plan events in their own area while others post the places where they will be traveling to see if locals in that area want to meet up. Nothing is too big or too small for the Local Events forum! Some of the recent planning threads include:

  • Game night in Norway
  • Seeing Aryawnah Sedai perform in a play in Michigan
  • Camping in Illinois
  • Traveling to England
  • Hanging out in Virginia
  • Game night in Utah
  • Barbequing in Michigan (in the snow!)
  • Bowling and laser tag in Belgium
  • And many others!

Any site member can create a thread in the Local Events forum and any site member can attend an event that is posted there. To protect our members, there are some rules for Local Events (they are posted in the Local Events Forum) and of course common courtesy is expected of everyone in attendance.

If you are the type of person who likes to organize get-togethers, keep in mind that you can earn Merits for doing so! Hosting three Local Events earns you a Silver Merit and hosting ten earns you a Gold Merit. Even if you aren’t working toward a Merit, remember to always record each event for posterity’s sake; there is a thread in the Local Events forum specifically for that purpose.

Check the Local Events forum regularly as events are being added all the time, and some with very little advance notice. You don’t want to miss out on a great local event because you didn’t see the announcement in time!

Have you ever hosted or attended a Local Event? We’d love to hear about it!
