Get To Know Your Grays

By Camlyn al'Carr

Welcome to Gray HQ. On behalf of my Grayt sisters and brothers, I would like to introduce to you...drum roll please ...

Therian Gaidin of Dai M'Hael, bonded to Roshen Sedai of the Gray!

a.k.a

Augustus (Actor)

How long have you been a member for?

4 years and a bit more now.

Which forum is your favourite out of them all and why?

Mundane world seems to be taking up most of my time at the moment, flirting with people.

What do you like the most about being a member?

Meeting new people at the real life events.

You've attended real life events?

Loads.

Which one/s and what is your favourite memory from attending?

My first one, being chased by all the members for getting into trouble AGAIN!

Real life to you is…?

Doing what you want to do and having no regrets.

When real life occasionally eats you, as it does to us all, what keeps you coming back?

Familiar people and faces.

What were you thinking, bonding a Gray?

I wasn't. But besides that, me and Ro have always been very close, it was a very natural step.

What are your hobbies, aside from reading?

Fencing, Sailing, Scuba Diving, Rock Climbing and searching for the city of Atlantis (I'm not joking).

What do you do for work/school in real life?

I'm an actor, though I have a Zoology major so when I'm not acting I'm working as a research assistant.

That's all we have time for today! We hope you have enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about one of our Grayts. From all of us here at Gray HQ, have a safe and joyful festive season. We leave you today with Therian Gaidin's favourite quote...

"Treat your kite like you treat your woman; get in her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back!"

Pie of the Month

by Kitiarah Lamseen

Since my son, Austin-11, wanted to help with baking the pie, I let him choose which one we were going to make for the month of December. He and I agreed, apple was a fine pie.

Here is the recipe we used for the Apple Mix:

1/4 cup packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon all purpose flour 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 6 medium baking apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced(about 2 pounds) 1 cup dark raisins

For the Glaze: 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

For the pie crust you can use an unbaked, ready-made 9-inch piecrust or you can make it from scratch. (which is always more fun with kids)

Pie Crust recipe: (Makes 2 shells-top & bottom)

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 cup shortening (chilled) 1/2 cup cold butter or margarine (cut in 1/4 inch slices) 6 to 8 tbsp. ice water

Mixing the Ingredients In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together. Using a pastry blender or two knives, cut in the chilled shortening and butter (or margarine). Work the mixture only until it forms coarse crumbs that resemble tiny split peas.

Sprinkle the flour and fat mixture with 4 tbsp. of ice water and gently mix together. If the dough seems dry, add more ice water, one tablespoon at a time. Only add enough water to make the dough hold together. Test the dough by pinching a small piece of dough between your fingers. If it holds together you have added enough water. Mix quickly and gently. Knead dough about 10 times, roll into ball and then cut in half. Roll out pie crust with rolling pin to the fit the pie pan.

Preheat over to 425 F. Spray your pie pan/plate with vegetable cooking spray.

1. In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, lemon peel, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.

2. Add apples to sugar mixture; stir until coated. Stir in raisins. Spoon into prepared pie crust/plate.

3. Place top layer of the pie over filling. Press together with fingertips and trim around the edges.

4. With a sharp knife, cut steam vents in piecrust.

5. To glaze, lightly brush piecrust with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sugar.

6. Bake until piecrust is golden brown, about 35-40 minutes. Place on a wire reack and cool for 30 minutes. Serve warm.

Since I baked these pies with 8 kids in my house, my edges were a little crispy. They are kids though, so they didn't mind. Have fun baking!!!

Musings from the Grayt White North!

by Melisande Arneil

For as long as I can remember, there has been an ongoing discussion in the Gray Sitting room, regarding the spelling of gray or grey, or possibly even graey. When one reads WoT, we are used to seeing gray spelled as…well…gray! However, when I was growing up, in the Grayt White North, gray was spelled grey. One spelling is American, the other is British. Both spellings are equally correct, but you will find people gently correcting others in the use of the ‘a’ versus the ‘e’. Then, you will find the ultimate in Gray mediation, by using a combination thereof: graey! I don’t know that we’ll ever have a resolution to our little discussion, but that’s ok…cuz Gray/Grey/Graey is here to stay!

That's all we have for you this month... stay tuned for next month's issue, when we'll have even more fun Gray goodies for everyone!
