MDD Archive - Sela Narian's Intro to Basic Theories and Principles of MDD 101 Fall 2006/Spring 2007 Class Lessons

Starting in August of 2007, the International MDD Archival Library started to release the speeches, memoirs, and phonecalls of the various leaders and friends of the esteemed company to the general public for reading in an attempt to educate and enlighten the denizens of TarValon.net regarding the proper way to make dealings with a member of the company. In the coming months, the Times features the lessons of Sela Narian, an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah and able communicator and venerable Editor of this publication, as she works in an impartial and unbiased way to best explain the qualities of the men of MDD. These lessons were originally released for the same purpose as this feature: the education and betterment of the community.

Today, we print her October 20th, 2006 lecture on making fun of oneself and how to take a joke well! Presenting, Sela Narian, Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah:

This next post, I entitle 'LEARN TO TAKE A HIT (aka It's Not the Size of the Ego That Counts).'

People who can't take a swipe at themselves every once in a while (even if they don't tease others) are boring. Whiny. Unoriginal. Insecure. Annoying. Likely compensating for something-or-other (pick one).

If you can make a joke, you should be able to take one, too - even a negative one.

There are then a few different options which I'll summarize with generalities (bear with me; I'm making it all up out of context):

a) OMG you're insulting us get away you're so RUDE and cruel who invited you anyway go AWAY i'm telling

b) Uh... *ignore*

c) Ok, guys, seriously. Please stop.

d) i'm serious i'm TELLING you're such a meanie i don't like you it's making me sad

e) Yeah. And yet you fantasize about being me (or being NEAR me?); what's up with that?

B, C and E are all fine options in their own ways, and can rather shed light on how one reacts in specific circumstances.

A and D are obviously exaggerated (though I've seen some very close to that). If you react in the manner shown in options A and D, you obviously have issues you need to sort out before subjecting yourself to this cruel world, where people actually tease sometimes. OMG.

Related: Learn to be proud of your faults. Jundna Gaidin proudly wears a signature banner of his girlfriends, aka a bunch of (Welsh?) sheep, where everyone can see it. I applaud him, and you should, too.

Look to the coming months for more lessons from the International MDD Archival Library and take head of the advice herein.

Editor's Note: Sela Narian is no longer an unbiased source, as she has, since the writing of this class lesson, become bonded to a member of MDD. However, she would like to assure the populous that at the time of this earlier publication in late October of yesteryear, there was no bias inherent, and therefore her educational resources are a viable source for those searching unbiased knowledge. She is simply a victim of the ages who came to know her research subject much too well.
