To Asandra Sedai, it is these bonds with people, both new and old, which make the Tower special. Asandra al'Terra took on the role of Mayor here at TarValon.Net in May, and graciously agreed to answer some questions about her new role as well as about her time on the site.

New members are one of this Blue Aes Sedai’s favorite things, and she hopes that her participation as Mayor will encourage more people to join up and stay. In her own words, “I felt like working as Mayor would let me focus on trying to bring and keep new members on, since I'm one of the first lines of contact for them. Helping bring in new folks is one of my main aims for my time as Mayor.” Asandra Sedai hopes that her time previously serving as part of membership administration will help accomplish this goal.

When asked about her favorite part of her role as Mayor, Asandra Sedai replied that watching new members connect with the community is simultaneously nostalgic and reminds her what a “wonderful place” TarValon.Net is. While her new role has not thrown her any major surprises or challenges yet, our Mayor seems prepared to meet any such challenges.

Asandra Sedai was drawn to TarValon.Net like so many others in search of a community with which she could share her love for The Wheel of Time. Fourteen years after her original join date, she is still dedicating her time and efforts to support the site! She says that connecting with various people through the site and forming such lasting friendships has kept her coming back.

She certainly has contributed to the site over the years. Asandra Sedai is currently a TVT contributor as well as Mayor. At various times she has served as a forum Moderator, and she has served her Ajah as Sitter, Heart, and Head of the Blue throughout her time as an Aes Sedai.

Over her time with the site Asandra Sedai has seen many changes, including the guesting process. Having already reached the status of Aspired when the formal distinction was added, her guesting experience is distinct from our current methods. Her Ajah too, changed over time as she grew as a person and changed on the site. When asked why she was Blue, she pointed out that the Blue Ajah is a group of individuals; everyone has their own projects, even though they are still connected and care about each other. Simultaneously easy to manage and caring, Asandra Sedai is proud to call this “wonderful group of men and women” her home within TarValon.Net.

Asandra Sedai’s fourteen-year career as a member of the site has left her with a lot of memories, but the one which stands most clearly in her mind is of when she got the message that she was ready to take the Aes Sedai test. The nervous excitement of the moment remains strong in her memory to this day.

While she has not been to many real-life Tower events, Asandra Sedai enjoys the chance to make new memories with the fabulous people from TarValon.Net. She chose 2017’s JordanCon as her favorite event, and I could not hope to convey her explanation why better than she does herself: “I'm sure you'll guess the answer: the people. I met old friends and new -- people I've known for almost a decade and a half and was seeing in person for the first time; people I've met a bunch of times before; and people I'd barely ever talked to and with whom I forged new friendships. I can't wait for next year.”

To Asandra Sedai, it is these bonds with people, both new and old, which make the Tower special. If the boards suddenly stopped existing (Light forbid!) she is sure the friendships she has made over the years would continue. Her commitment to these ties of friendship and engagement throughout the site will certainly support her throughout her time as Mayor, and we hope she will enjoy her service!
