Overview

Moderators are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of our forums.

Department: Non Departmental

Position Level: Staff

Rotation: 6 month rotation

Merit Eligibility: Staff Merit

Chain of Command

Moderators report to the Head Moderator.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Periodically checking the forums to ensure everything is running smoothly. Moderators are not expected to read every single thread, but to be generally aware of forum activity.
  • Alerting the Tower Mediators should a conflict or issue arise.
  • Handling reported posts within their forums.
  • Working with the other Moderators as well as the Mediators to resolve any conflicts or issues that may arise.

Qualifications

  • Must be a member of at least 3 months.
  • Must check the boards regularly.
  • Must possess tact and discretion.
  • Must be willing to learn how to use Xenforo moderation actions.
  • Must be willing to turn on 2-factor authentication on your forum account for the duration of your service.
  • Must be willing to remove all users from “ignore” on the forums and keep them that way for the duration of your service.

History

The forums have split, merged and been renamed many times. This has mostly had no effect on the status of Moderators, but after the Spring 2015 Admin Meeting, it was decided to make the Mafia Mods into admins, rather than staff.

In September 2020 the Department of Moderators and Operators was disbanded, alongside the practice of hiring moderators for separate forums. The Moderator position was transferred to the Department of Technology. In January 2022 it was moved again, and now exists outside of the departmental structure.
