Constelations

There are several constellations, mentioned throughout the books, some of which might resemble or be connected to constellations found in real life. (Theory)

Verin held charts of the night sky in her office (TDR, Ch. 21). When examining them Egwene recognizes the following constellations:

  • The Plowman
  • The Haywain
  • The Archer
  • The Five Sisters

others were unfamiliar.

As a child, Mat used to find it calming to look at the stars and try to name the constellations (LoC, Ch. 22).

Halfway between Maerone and Tear (City), close to the river Erinin, during the later half of the year, Mat sees the following constellations:

  • The Haywain (high overhead)
  • The Five Sisters
  • The Three Geese (Pointing the way north)
  • The Archer
  • The Plowman
  • The Blacksmith
  • The Snake (Aiel called that one The Dragon)
  • The Shield (Called Hawkwing's Shield by some)
  • The Stag
  • The Ram
  • The Cup
  • The Traveler (a female, holding a staff)

Visualization

The visualization of the following contellations is done purely based on their given names in the Wheel of Time books and their comparison to existing real world constellations. With Ages coming and going, a long time has passed and what has once looked like a constellation in our Age, can look either just a bit, or very different in the next. ;)
