Silviana respects Egwene a great deal and is proud of her (38).

Miscellaneous
*Silviana has considerably less mercy with sisters than she does with the novices and Accepted (25).

*Silviana believes that anything that takes her attention away from the novices and Accepted is a needless disruption (25).

*Alviarin visits Silviana every morning for her daily penance (24).

*Silviana is not weak in the One Power. She is stronger than Katerine and Barasine (Prol11).

*Silviana’s punishments make novices and Accepted wish to never be sent to her again (Prol11).

*Silviana dislikes forkroot because she thinks that it seems to be directly aimed at Aes Sedai (Prol11).

Quotes
"Even to the Amyrlin, she made no effort to hide her disgust. Silviana believes private penance a ridiculous affectation. Penance was public; only punishment took place in private." (Elaida about Silviana; Chapter 25)

"Elaida seemed fiercer than ever since she began summoning Silviana for her own supposedly private penances. The whole Tower was still buzzing with that." (Yukiri about Silviana and Elaida; Prologue)

"A hard woman, Silviana Brehon. Fair, so I hear, but hard enough to break iron." (Leane; Chapter 24)

"Only one woman in this room was willing to stand up for what she knew to be right. Only one woman dared defy Elaida and she accepted the price of doing so" (Chapter 46).
General
Galina Casban is the Highest of the Red Ajah, though nobody outside of the Ajah knows that. She also sits on the Supreme Council of the Black Ajah and is second only to Alviarin Freidhen, the head of the Black Ajah. She is no longer bound by the Three Oaths but by a different set of oaths that each Black sister must swear (40).

Galina was part of the White Tower embassy to Rand. She would have been the leader had she not pointed out that Rand would be suspicious of an embassy led by a Red. (Prol6) The embassy soon come to realize that he is playing with them and decide to kidnap him. Galina takes charge because it was agreed that a Red should be in charge if it came to that. Thirteen sisters of the embassy shield Rand and take him from the Sun Palace to Lady Arilyn's house. (51) They leave Cairhien and travel towards Tar Valon but stop at Dumai's Wells. It is here that they are attacked by Shaido trying to capture Rand and Asha'man, Aiel and Two Rivers men trying to free him. Galina disappears during the fighting. (55) Shaido Aiel capture her and take her to Kinslayer's Dagger. She is made da'tsang (40). She is later forced to swear an oath of loyalty on a binding rod supplied by Sammael to the Wise Ones but Sevanna and Therava above all. They make her gai'shain (11). Galina Travels with the Shaido to Ghealdan (4).

Galina has a round face and a plump mouth. (Prol6) She has black eyes. (25) Galina has long black hair. (40) Galina has the ageless face of an Aes Sedai and is pretty, though not beautiful. (9)

Timeline
* C. 910 NE: Galina is raised Aes Sedai. (40)
* C. 915 NE: Galina joins the Black Ajah (40)
* 979 NE: Galina is part of the Black Ajah group who torture and kill Tamra Ospenya. (40)
* 999 NE: Galina and the Tower embassy kidnap Rand. (51)
* 1000 NE: Galina swears an oath of loyalty to the Wise Ones. She is made gai'shain. (11)
* 1000 NE: Galina is captured by Gaul and taken to Perrin's camp. She weeps when she realizes Therava will not accept kidnapping as a valid excuse for being late (prol11).
* 1000 NE: Galina tells Perrin that she is about White Tower business, and that Faile and Alliandre are under her protection (prol11).
* 1000 NE: Galina tries to convince Perrin that his forces are inadequate to win against the Shaido. She reiterates that when her business is finished, she will take Faile and Alliandre to safety, and by the Three Oaths he knows her words are true. She lies further to Perrin and decides that Faile and the others cannot be left alive (prol11).
*It becomes known she is Black Ajah when she is on the list that Verin gives Egwene (39).

Strengths and Talents
Galina is stronger than Micara, an Aiel Wise One, but weaker than Therava and Someryn. Few Aes Sedai are stronger than Galina. (40; 11)

She can Heal. (4)

Relationships
If Elaida deferred to anyone, she would defer to Galina. (Prol6)

For safety reasons few people know that Galina and Alviarin are more than acquaintances. (27) Galina is only one of three people who know that Alviarin is the head of the Black Ajah. (40)

Rand was furious that Galina had escaped after Dumai's Wells. (2)

Men make Galina's skin crawl. (40)
* Galina was given orders by Elaida to have Gawyn and the Younglings killed. (32)
* Galina has helped to break two Amyrlin Seats, Tamra Ospenya and Siuan Sanche. She enjoyed stilling Siuan. (40)
* Galina does not enjoy gentling men but sees it as a necessary duty. (40)
* Galina was severely punished for trying to escape from the Shaido twice. (40)
* The Wise Ones know that Galina can lie but have not made the connection to the Black Ajah. (40)
* The Shaido Wise Ones believe that Galina killed Desaine. (40)
* Galina met Alliandre, Queen of Ghealdan, when Alliandre was a girl. (4)
* Therava calls Galina "Lina". (4)
* Galina Heals Faile, Morgase and Alliandre when they arrive at the Shaido camp. She blackmails them into trying to steal the oath rod from Therava's tent. (4)
* Galina often shares Therava's tent. (9)

Quotes
"She was too hard for logic- she believed what she believed whatever the evidence- yet Sarene had always believed that great fires roared somewhere in Galina's depths." Sarene about Galina (Chapter 25)

"Galina, a Red, had been in charge of the sisters who had held him prisoner, and if he was calm about her today, yesterday he had been in a fury that she had gotten away." Perrin about Rand's reaction to Galina's escape (Chapter 2)

"She would be rescued eventually, of course; she knew that. The Tower would not allow a sister to remain in captivity. Elaida would not allow a Red to be held. Surely Alviarin would send rescue. Someone would, anyone, to save her from these monsters, especially from Therava. She would promise anything for that deliverance. She would even keep those promises." Galina (Chapter 40)

"Galina was Aes Sedai. She must be. But what was an Aes Sedai doing here, in gai'shain robes? Not to mention apparently ready to lick Sevanna's wrist and kiss Therava's feet! An Aes Sedai!" Faile about Galina (Chapter 4)
General
Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan is an Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah.
Personality
Elaida has always had an exacting personality. She loves flowers, in particular red roses, and has always made it a priority to surround herself with them, even during droughts. She also enjoys knitting, and often occupies her time with the activity. She has a special loathing for rats, perhaps because they can be spies for the Dark One. Her composure is often compared to unveiled steel, as Rand muses that, "He had sometimes thought of Moiraine as steel covered with velvet; with Elaida the velvet was only an illusion" (40). Egwene notes, "She had always thought of Moiraine as strong, steel under silk, but Elaida dispensed with the silk" (24).

Elaida has no interest in novices, but the novices know of her and her reputation (1).
Appearance
"Elaida was a handsome woman rather than beautiful, and the sternness on her face added maturity to her ageless Aes Sedai features. She did not look old, yet Egwene could never imagine her looking young." (17)

Condensed Timeline
Strengths and Talents
Elaida is one of the strongest Aes Sedai in the Tower (prior to the arrival of Egwene and company) and according to Verin, is one of the few living Aes Sedai who could wield the Choedan Kal (Chapter 31).
Foretelling
Elaida has the Talent of Foretelling. It is faint and comes rarely, but it is still more than any Aes Sedai has had since Gitara Moroso (Chapter 1).

Elaida's first Foretelling, as an Accepted, was that "the Royal line of Andor would be the key to defeating the Dark One in the Last Battle" (Chapter 1).

"From this day Andor marches toward pain and division. The Shadow has yet to darken to its blackest, and I cannot see if the Light will come after. Where the world has wept one tear, it will weep thousands. Pain and division come to the whole world, and this man (Rand) stands at the heart of it." (Chapter 40)

Relationships with Other Characters
{{Spoiler|the whole series|Upon her initial meeting with Rand, she believes that he may be a Darkfriend, and she finds his heron-mark sword and appearance to be quite remarkable for someone from Emond's Field (40). She is one of the first to declare him ta'veren, and "more dangerous than any man since Artur Hawkwing" (4). Above all, she sees Rand as a threat to Andor and seeks to eliminate him (1). Upon learning that he has taken the Stone of Tear and wielded Callandor, Elaida begrudgingly admits that he is indeed the Dragon Reborn (prol5). In her initial overtures toward the Dragon Reborn, she sends Rand a letter offering him an escort to the White Tower (51). Especially after her embassy captures and shields him, and he escapes from it, there is certainly no love lost between Rand and Elaida.

After Foretelling that Andor would be pivotal in the Last Battle, Elaida attached herself to the soon-to-be-Queen Morgase as her Aes Sedai advisor. She has watched over and had a vested interest in Elayne since birth, in particular after discovering her potential as a channeler. Unfortunately, Morgase severed all ties with the Tower (and Elaida with it) after Elayne disappeared.

Despite the fact that Alviarin is her Keeper of the Chronicles, there is no love lost between the two characters even during Elaida's first days as Amyrlin, as Alviarin consistently does not show the proper respect for Elaida. Elaida often finds the White Sister's cool composure to be maddening when the two lock horns. Her choice of Alviarin as Keeper was purely a political one, as she could not have gained the necessary support from the White without Alviarin's help (prol5).

Elaida holds a special animosity toward Thom Merrilin after he attempted to meddle in Aes Sedai affairs that involved his nephew (35).

Elaida is totally unaware of Padan Fain's status as doubly Dark, and attempts to use him to learn more about Rand and perhaps to capture him. Fain, of course, is using her to get his dagger back (prol5).

Elaida takes a particular interest in Min, due to her connections with Rand and Moiraine (24). She tries to interrogate Min about Rand.

Elaida is one of the Aes Sedai involved with Egwene's testing for the ring, and after having demanded to be part of it she is very critical of Egwene's character. We later learn that Elaida despises Egwene because she is a wilder and will never consider Egwene a true Aes Sedai (23). It is Elaida who pours the first two chalices over Egwene. In Egwene's ter'angreal vision of the future, Elaida denounces Rand to the Hall of the Tower, claiming that he is a false Dragon, and Egwene refuses to sentence him (22).

Elaida, believing Siuan to be a threat to the integrity of the Tower (and having never really liked her much, anyway), is the ringleader in deposing her and ascending to the Amyrlin Seat (47). Elaida once worked with Siuan to bring "Morgase to heel" (27) but ultimately feels slighted that her efforts to control Caemlyn may have cost her the Amyrlin Seat, something about which she envies Siuan intensely.}}

Elaida's Journey
The Shadow Rising
Crossroads of Twilight
{{Spoiler|Crossroads of Twilight|
The tables are turned, however, when, through the work of Seaine and company and some political scapegoating, Elaida is able to remove Alviarin as Keeper due to her absence from the Tower.

Author: Atarah al'Norahn

General
Bonwhin Meraighdin was an Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah. She was raised to the Amyrlin Seat in the year FY 939, and held the position until the year 992 FY. These dates may not be exact because of the confusion surrounding dates during the War of the Hundred Years (TWoRJTWoT).

Bonwhin is one of the three Amyrlins who have been publicly deposed. She lost the staff and stole for attempting to manipulate Artur Hawkwing. She was replaced by a Blue, Deane Aryman. Since Bonwhin, there has been no Amyrlin raised from the Red Ajah (TWoRJTWoT; 5).

Bonwhin was an imperious woman, even for an Amyrlin Seat (TWoRJTWoT).

Timeline
* Bonwhin is raised to the Amyrlin Seat circa FY 939 (TWoRJTWoT).

* When Artur Hawkwing brings Guaire Amalasan to the White Tower, Bonwhin has a message sent to Hawkwing saying that he has five days to rest his army and move them beyond the borders of Tar Valon (TWoRJtWoT).

* In the year FY 968 or 969, either Tamika, Hawkwing's wife, refused a summons to Bonwhin, or Bonwhin refused to see Tamika (TWoRJTWoT).

* In the year FY 992, Bonwhin is deposed and kept in the Tower as a scullery maid (5; TWoRJTWoT).

* Bonwhin dies in the year FY 996 (TWoRJTWoT).

Miscellaneous
* There is a triptych of Bonwhin in Elaida's study. The first panel shows her, tall and proud, ordering Aes Sedai. The second panel shows her defiant on the walls of Tar Valon under siege. The third panel shows her kneeling before the Hall of the Tower as she is deposed (Prol5). Later, it seems that Elaida takes it down for reasons unknown (46).

* The Red Ajah resents the fact that there has not been an Amyrlin raised from the Red Ajah since Bonwhin (27).

* Apparently, Bonwhin never forgave Artur Hawkwing for entering the territory of Tar Valon with an army (TWoRJTWoT).

* It is thought that the Aes Sedai governing provinces for Artur Hawkwing took their orders from Bonwhin more than from Hawkwing. It is thought that she might have been attempting to control his decisions (TWoRJTWoT).

* Some sources claim that Artur Hawkwing began the siege of the White Tower because he learned that Bonwhin had been behind the deaths of his first wife and children (TWoRJTWoT).

Quotes
"Tetsuan, who betrayed Manetheren for jealousy of Ellisande's powers, and Bonwhin, who tried to use Artur Hawkwing for a puppet to control the world and so nearly destroyed Tar Valon." (Moiraine to Siuan; Chapter 5)

"Both of the Red, and both replaced by Amyrlins from the Blue. The reason there has not been an Amyrlin chosen from the Red since Bonwhin, and the reason the Red Ajah will take any pretext to pull down an Amyrlin from the Blue, all wrapped neatly together. I have no wish to be the third to lose the stole and the staff, Moiraine." (Siuan to Moiraine; Chapter 5).

She raised her eyes to the paintings. One consisted of three wooden panels depicting Bonwhin, the last Red to have been raised to the Amyrlin Seat, a thousand years before, and the reason no Red had worn the stole since. Until Elaida. Bonwhin, tall and proud, ordering Aes Sedai in their manipulations of Artur Hawkwing; Bonwhin, defiant, on the white walls of Tar Valon, under siege by Hawkwing's forces; and Bonwhin, kneeling and humbled, before the Hall of the Tower as they stripped her of stole and staff for nearly destroying the Tower. (Elaida; Prologue)

The evidence is conclusive, though, that Bonwhin never forgave Hawkwing for entering Tar Valon's territory with an army. An enmity even deeper might be explained by the possibility that Hawkwing did indeed come to the White Tower's rescue against Maculhene and Motheneos. Bonwhin was an imperious woman even for an Amyrlin, and it is unlikely she would either have forgotten the need for rescue or forgiven the one who provided it.
