The Free Years marked the years after the Trolloc Was. By FY 100, twenty-nine new nations had arisen.

For nearly eight hundred years, the nations of the Free Era prospered, until a man named Guiare Amalasan named himself the Dragon Reborn in FY 939 and began to conquer the nations. One of the generals in the war that came to be known as the War of the Second Dragon was Artur Paendrag Tanreall.

In brief, Amalasan added many nations to his holdings before Artur Paendrag and his men, as well as the Aes Sedai who were with him, captured Amalasan and took him to the Tower where he was gentled. In the summer of FY 943, several rulers attacked Hawkwing's homeland, possibly afraid of his reputation as a general. The years of FY 943 to FY 963 are referred to as the Consolidation. Hawkwing defeated the armies sent against him, and over the next twenty years, he conquered, with the exception of Tar Valon, every mile of land from the Spine of the World to the Aryth Ocean.
Eventually, this area of land became what is now northernmost Murandy and the western part of Andor.

Aldeshar was one of the most powerful nations of the Free Era. However, around FY 943, during the War of the Second Dragon, fighting had begun in Aldeshar. Around FY 944, Aldeshar sent men to aid Caembarin against Artur Hawkwing.

Aldeshar was the last nation to fall to Artur Hawkwing, by BY 963.. The last king of Aldeshar before Hawkwing conquered it was Joal Ramedar, grandfather of Ishara, who became the first Queen of Andor.

Being the last nation to fall to him, Aldeshar was initially treated cruelly by Artur Hawkwing. In a number of battles, there were no prisoners taken. He displaced nearly the whole population to other parts of the empire, and confiscated all of the noble's estates. The entire nobility and merchant class was reduced to absolute penury.

It was Tamika, Hawkwing's second wife, who convinced Hawkwing to relent in his harsh treatment of Aldeshar. He then allowed the people to return, and restored the confiscated estates and titles.
Abayan was one of the nations of the Free Era. Abayan was located in the northern part of the Westlands. To the west was the Aryth Ocean, with Basharande to the northeast, Indrahar and Oman Dashar to the east, and Darmovan to the south. Eventually, this area of land became what is now the northern part of Arad Domon.

By FY 963, Abayan had fallen to Hawkwing.
==General==
