Outline

Perrin is severely injured. Faile and the Horn of Valere remain lost in the Blight. There are heavy losses at the battle at Thakan'dar Valley.

Summary

Rand's Point of View:

Setting: Shayol Ghul

Characters: Rand, The Dark One

Rand stands in a place outside of time gazing at what he believes to be a representation of the Pattern. He can see everything. The Dark One wells up and brings his force against Rand.



Perrin's Point of View:

Setting: Tel'aran'rhiod

Characters: Perrin, Lanfear

Perrin is injured by Slayer's arrow. He is very weak and confused. He tries to contact the wolves but they ones he reaches do not know of Wolfbrothers. Lanfear arrives and looks at Perrin in disappointment before vanishing. He shifts to the Field of Merrilor in search of Faile but realises he can't reach her as he is in the dream.



Faile's Point of View:

Setting: The Blight

Characters: Faile, Mandevwin, Aravine, Harnan, Setalle, Arrela, Cha Faile

Faile and her party have made camp in the Blight. She has some hundred people with her to protect but already two caravan workers have fallen to the Blight. They speculate on how Berisha could have sent them to the Blight. Faile thinks that Berisha's wound did not look to be made by the spikes but by a knife. Setalle explains reading residues is possible and they may be found by tracing the weave. The group decide to wait a day for rescue after which they will travel toward Shayol Ghul in hope the army there can make them a gateway to the Field of Merrilor. After, Faile speaks with Setalle privately who confirms that she can no longer channel, having being burnt out over 25 years ago.



Aviendha's Point of View:

Setting: Thakan'dar Valley

Characters: Aviendha, Sarene, Soro, Flinn, Kiruna, Faeldrin, Hessalam

Aviendha inspects the corpse of one of the red veils and believes him to be Soro, one who learned he could channel when Aviendha was young. Aviendha is in a circle with Sarene, Flinn and two other Aes Sedai and using the turtle brooch angreal. Flinn points out flashes of fire in another area. The group head in that direction until Aviendha stops them. She continues on alone, checking corpses are real with Delving to avoid ambush. Aviendha draws on her circle's strength and attacks two red veils further ahead. She Heals a siswai'aman with a throat wound to stop him from bleeding out. A shock goes through her as she feels two wells of her power vanishing. She immediately releases the circle and dashes back to where she left them. Kiruna and Faeldrin are dead. Hessalam has Sarene under Compulsion while her warder lies at her feet. The two disappear, apparently Traveling without the use of a gateway. Flinn has survived but his left arm is completely gone.
