Almoth

Almoth was one of the twenty-four nations that arose either during or shortly after the War of the Hundred Years. It was located in the western part of the Westlands, with Arad Doman to the north and Tarabon to the south, where the Almoth Plain now lies (TWoRJTWoT).

The banner of Almoth was blue for the sky above and black for the earth below, with the spreading Tree of Life to join them. It is claimed that Almoth held a branch of Avendesora, and perhaps even a sapling of the tree (TGH, Ch. 7).

The nation of Almoth had faded away sometime by the year 600 NE. In it's place remains the Almoth Plain (TWoRJTWoT). Pedron Niall, Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light, wanted to rebuild the nation of Almoth. To Jaichim Carridin, he gave the task of filling the Almoth Plain so that the nation would live again, ruled by the Children of the Light. Niall wanted a nation where the Whitecloaks would not need to "pay lip service to a fool of a king". Carridin did not complete the task (TDR, Prologue).

The Almoth Plain

For nearly the past three hundred years, both Tarabon and Arad Doman have laid claim to the Almoth Plain (TGH, Ch. 4). There are no large cities, or even large towns, on the Almoth Plain, and Pedron Niall refers to it as "an empty bucket that no one holds except by words and claims" (TDR, Prologue).

There have been at least five treaties attempting to settle the dispute over Almoth Plain. Merana Ambrey, Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah, negotiated the fifth treaty between Arad Doman and Tarabon in the year 961 NE, thirty-eight years ago, but it failed (LoC, Ch. 43).

Since near the beginning of the series, the Almoth Plain has been in chaos. Dragonsworn swarm over the plain. The Whitecloaks, in an attempt to bring peace, moved five thousand men to the Almoth Plain and began trying to push back the Taraboners and Domani, though they made no move to stop the Dragonsworn (TDR, Ch. 3). There are many refugees from this area (LoC, Prologue).

The Seanchan now occupy the Almoth Plain (CoT, Prologue).
