General

Alvistere is a novice of the White Tower (KoD, Ch. 24).

Alvistere is from Cairhien. She is short and slim, with long dark hair (KoD, Ch. 24).

Egwene can tell that she is strong in the One Power, and is sure that she will be tested for Accepted unless she has major failings (KoD, Ch. 24).

Timeline

  • When Egwene enters the novice dining hall for her first breakfast as a prisoner in the White Tower, Alvistere sticks out a foot and trips her halfway to the kitchen door. Egwene asks for her name, and Alvistere tells Egwene that even if she tells Silviana that she tripped her, everyone else in the dining hall will say that they saw nothing. Egwene tells Alvistere that this is a pity; Alvistere wants to become Aes Sedai and give up the ability to lie, and yet she wants others to lie for her. Alvistere's face grows red, and her eyes widen when Egwene claims to be the Amyrlin Seat before all of the novices (KoD, Ch. 24).
  • Alvistere seems to respect Egwene after the first few day of her captivity. She is one of the novices who try to emulate her behavior. At the midday meal on the third day of Egwene's captivity in the Tower, nearly two dozen novices, Alvistere among them, eat standing up, faces red with embarrassment. They have been punished for their behavior, and their bottoms are too sore to sit down. At supper that same day, only seven need stand up to eat because of sore bottoms, and on the fourth day, only Alvistere and Nicola. After the fourth day, they stop trying to behave like Egwene (KoD, Ch. 24).

Quotes

"Alvistere," the young woman replied, her accent confirming her face. "Why do you want to know? So you can carry tales to Silviana? It will do you no good. Everyone will say they saw nothing." (Alvistere to Egwene; Knife of Dreams, Chapter 24).

"A pity that, Alvistere. You want to become Aes Sedai and give up the ability to lie, yet you want others to lie for you. Do you see any inconsistency in that?" (Egwene to Alvistere; Knife of Dreams, Chapter 24).
