EDITOR'S NOTE by Sela Narian, Director of Communications

After a bit of a hiatus, the Tar Valon Times is back and ready as ever to meet your gossiping, need-to-know needs! Be sure to expect us on a monthly basis from now on; we'll be here, nosy and full of self-worth. Or that might just be me, but I like to think a Director imbues his or her Department with his or her best qualities.

In this highly august issue - look, Aquila; I made a terrible pun just for you - you find the results to the Emmies, those incredibly important Emoticon Awards for which all truly concerned members of the site voted. Ok, the truly bored ones, but since that's most of us, same thing! The Department of Communications staff also did an existential exercise, in which they declared what emoticon they were, deep down inside their soul.

Celinda, the Guildmaster for the Healer's Guild, has written up a lovely summary of what the Healer's Guild can do for you. You can look forward to more Guild features in the Tar Valon Times in issues to come.

Also, I would be remiss to not mention that Karalyne, my esteemed second, has pointed out that there are three separate pieces to do with MDD in this issue, while there are none concentrating on any other Company. Congratulations, MDD, on mastering the arts of nepotism and bribery! As always, I am here to let your causes thrive for a nominal fee. Other Companies, see me for payment schedule if interested. I accept PayPal.

On that altruistic note, I'd like to point out that al'Cary has written an interesting editorial on the state of mentorship in the Tower, brought up in reference to the change decided at the Admin Meeting this year, wherein Mentors and Mentees shall be paired up by questionnaire. Worth a read for sure.

So then! Have you taken a look at the Tar Valon Times and thought, "I wanna go to the Department of Communications playground too"? If so, first stop pouting and then start praising your respective deity/deities or science-grounded theory, because your opportunity just might have come. Watch Site Announcements in the next month for the opportunity to apply to be a Reporter or Comic Artist for the Tar Valon Times. There will also be a couple of other Department positions taking applications. The new term for TVT Staff starts September 15.

We're also about to launch the Senior Member Interviews, run by Cealestis. This resourceful Accepted has made it a mission to get an interview out of every single Senior Member she can, to be put into an archived database for all members to peruse. Special thanks to Melana for giving us an awesome site for it; Senior Members will need only visit the page, select their Ajah/Company, and fill out a few questions. Look out for it in the next couple of months; I'm personally very excited about the project.

With that, I'll leave you to read about D'Ran's purity and other such important things. As always, any questions, comments or heart-driven poetry written for myself or my staff may be sent to news@tarvalon.net.

THIS MONTH AT TARVALON.NET

D*Con is right around the corner! From Thursday, August 30 - Monday, September 3, dozens of Tower members will be gathered in Atlanta, Georgia at the largest sci-fi/fantasy convention in America. Check the D*Con forum for details.

As for online matters, we recently changed our server for the forums. As a result of this, the previously-experienced daily outage at 11am-12pm GMT is history. Appropriate chocolates and flowers may be sent to Zhareen Sedai and Defen Gaidin, who performed the smoothest server switch in the entire history of our site. Our most sincere thanks to the Department of Technology for being effing awesome.

Also, remember to keep an eye on the Membership Manuals. Your illustrious Keeper of the Chronicles, Dralyn Montsier, has kept this huge project's fire revving for a good long while, and a large number of manuals are projected to be released in the coming month. Membership Manuals = Confusion Gone!

The Membership Manuals already finished are:

- Being made real
- Chat Guidelines
- Code of Conduct
- Mission Statement
- Pseudonyms, Avatars and Signatures
- Posting Guidelines
- Sponsorship to the Tower
- The Hall
- What does the Hall look for in raisings?

In order to view the myriad subjects yet to be detailed in the Membership Manual, you may see the full contents outlined here.
