Dragonsworn

Dragonsworn is the general name given to those who have sworn themselves to Rand al'Thor, whether or not he has recognised them, or even if they think of themselves by that term. Throughout history, men have always flocked to anyone who rose the banner of the Dragon (TWoRJTWoT, Ch. 21); recently, both Logain (TEotW, Ch. 13; KoD, Ch. 18) and Mazrim Taim (TDR, Ch. 12) gained sizeable followings before they were defeated. Those following Logain, melted away, denying ever done so (TEotW, Ch. 26), those following Taim mostly did the same, though it is probable some of them were responsible for breaking him free (LoC, Ch. 11) (It is likely that Joiya's claim that the Black Ajah intended to break him free (TSR, Ch. 5) is a lie, given the Oaths the Blacks must swear (WH, Prologue)). In the time since Rand proclaimed himself over Falme, and then at the Stone of Tear, a great number of people have declared for him. Even in Amadicia, many declare for Rand and leave their homes and previous service, claiming that the Dragon breaks all bonds (LoC, Ch. 9). There are several groups of these:

Dragonwsworn

Immediately following Rand's fight with Ba'alzamon, thousands of people declare for him across Almoth Plain, They are split into dozens of small bands, spread out all the way from Arad Doman to Tanchico and Rand is unable to join any as this would bring armies down on it to crush them (TDR, Ch. 2). They mostly go their own way, growing in numbers until Rodel Ituralde organises a gathering at Lady Osana's mansion, in Arad Doman under the White Ribbon (CoT, Prologue). At this time, they lacked organisation, having councils, but no single leader, the different groups varying in size from scores to thousands. He offers them a truce, pledging in the king's name not to move against them until the Seanchan are no longer a threat to Arad Doman. He manages to get them to agree to mount numerous raids on Seanchan camps, over fifty in just a couple of days, with the intent of the Seanchan then chasing them back to Arad Doman (KoD, Prologue).

The Band of the Red Hand

The Band of the Red Hand is an army initially of Cairhienin and Tairens, but later including Andorans, Altarans and Murandians, under the command of Matrim Cauthon. Although Mat himself doesn't view them as Dragonsworn (LoC, Ch. 39), the rebel Aes Sedai at least, do (LoC, Ch. 39; ACoS, Ch. 41). As the first nobles to join had either pledged fealty to Rand (TFoH, Ch. 43), or did so later, this seems a reasonable description (TFoH, Ch. 46).

The Legion of the Dragon

The Legion of the Dragon is composed of the men who were rejected from the Black Tower as they could not channel, under the command of Jak Masond (TPoD, Ch. 22). Taim initially suggests this, claiming Rand needs his own army as the Aiel and Bashere can't be relied upon (LoC, Ch. 11), but it is Bashere who Rand gets to train them (LoC, Ch. 42). This training goes reasonably well and Rand is able to use formations from the Legion when he attacks Illian (ACoS, Ch. 41) and fights the Seanchan (TPoD, Ch. 21).

The Prophet's Mobs

After Rand left Almoth Plan for Tear, Masema became convinced that it was his duty to spread the word that the Lord Dragon had been reborn and that it was his duty to spread the word and bring people to his service. Even at this time, there was a fevered look to his eyes (TDR, Ch. 6). He begins to gather people behind him and this soon swells to tens of thousands of people, who all seem infected with Masema's own madness (TFoH, Ch. 47; TPoD, Ch. 7). Rand sends Perrin to collect these, with the intent that he will pick up other Dragonsworn as he returns (ACoS, Ch. 27).

False Dragonsworn

In addition to the genuine Dragonsworn troubling Tarabon and Arad Doman, and the Amadicians who have left their families, there were also many people claiming to be Dragonsworn, who were not. While many of these were bandits (and indeed, some Aes Sedai see little difference between Dragonsworn and bandits ACoS, Ch. 12), others were sent by Pedron Niall, to stir up trouble in Altara and Murandy in an attempt to extend the influence of the Whitecloaks (LoC, Prologue; ACoS, Ch. 12).

Dragonsworn Aes Sedai

The Aes Sedai sent by Elaida to capture Rand, who were themselves captured at Dumai's Wells mostly swore fealty to him, as did the nine Aes Sedai who were representing the rebels
