Geography

Esandara was one of the nations of the Free Era. It was located in the mid-southern part of the Westlands. To the north were Caembarin and Shandalle, with Khodomar, separated by the Erinin, and Talmour to the east, Moreina to the southeast, Fergansea to the south, Shiota to the southeast, and Nerevan to the northwest, with the Cary along the border. Eventually, this area of land became what is now northeastern Illian, the Plains of Maredo, and the Hills of Kintara.

Cities, Towns, and Villages

Nothing is known of the cities or towns in Esandara, other than Fel Moreina, which lay on the site that later became Far Madding, was located within its boundaries (WH, Ch. 22).

Esandara's Fall

By FY 943, Guaire Amalasan had conquered Esandara, among other nations.

Within three days of the battle of Jolvine Pass, where Guaire Amalasan was captured (spring of FY 943), Elinde Motheneos marched from northern Esandara with a large force; both she and Sawyn Maculhene from Khodomar were intent on freeing Amalasan. Elinde Motheneos, in some accounts, was said to be a renegade Aes Sedai and was an expert in siege warfare. Their attack came as a surprise, and they captured at least two of the bridges at the Alindrelle Erinin and even reached the White Tower itself. However, in the end, the attack failed and both Sawyn Maculhene and Elinde Motheneos were killed attempting to free Guaire Amalasan, though it is uncertain as to whether Elinde was killed in the fighting or was executed afterwards. It is uncertain what role Elinde played in Esandara; it is possible that she governed there for Amalasan.

By FY 963, Esandara had fallen to Hawkwing.
