Hello everyone, and welcome back to our meme reread! This time, we're taking a look at chapters two through ten. It's a bit of a lengthy one, so grab a snack and get comfortable while we go forward on our meme journey together!

CHAPTER TWO

Rand and Mat have been voluntold to unload the cart of barrels and get them down to the storeroom, while the adult men go off the to the common room of the Winespring Inn to worry about whatever it is the Village Council worries about. We learn that Mat is potentially in trouble (as per usual) for flouring the blacksmith's dogs and letting them run wild, tricking some boys their age into thinking they were ghost dogs. Best stay out of Alsbet Luhhan's way; she's Master Luhhan's wife and apparently, eight million times scarier. Once they finish up unloading the barrels, Ewin Finngar, a village boy, comes to them with breathless news of strangers in the village. Only, his cloak isn't black, it's a sort of grayish green that fades. With him is the most beautiful lady in a sky-blue cloak, something right out of a gleeman's tale.

Eventually, the boys make their way outside where they throw rocks at ravens and actually wind up meeting the aforementioned lady, who is named Moiraine. She's beautiful and graceful and leaves our poor boys all tongue-tied and embarrassed. In her generosity(?), she gives each of them a silver coin, and then just goes about on her way. Yeah, nothing mildly suspicious about that at all.

CHAPTER THREE

Oh hecc, the peddler's come to town! Everyone is so excited, just like this little corgi.

GIF

Unfortunately, he brings news from far and away, of war and False Dragons and generally working the townspeople into a big worried frenzy. There's talk of Aes Sedai and madness and another potential Breaking. Bran isn't too happy about all the negativity and pot-stirring, as you can imagine.

Easily, the best part of this chapter is we get to meet Perrin Aybara, who is precious and best boy out of the entire lot. We meet Egwene al'Vere, Bran's daughter and the very awkward subject of Rand's affection. She's been taken on as Nynaeve's apprentice as Wisdom, and that opens a WHOLE can of worms between her and Rand. *cue soap opera drama*

CHAPTER FOUR

We meet more people! We finally get to meet Nynaeve al'Meara, the village Wisdom and general pricklebush, and Thom Merrilin, that specially hired gleeman who is very talented and very full of himself.

GIF

Not much in this chapter, but Rand and Tam head back to their farm for the night, and Tam suggests bringing up the dark rider to the Council, and it had been noted that some of the other boys around Rand's age had been jumping at shadows and seeing the same things.

The next few chapters can be summed up in only a few words, so here's a quick summary of each in meme form.

CHAPTER FIVE

CHAPTER SIX

On the road to Emond's field, we're treated to Rand's inner thoughts.

Image

CHAPTER SEVEN

We've made it out of the woods and to Emond's Field, and we learn that Moiraine is Aes Sedai. Tam's dying, and she's the only one who can help him. Here we see Rand's inner dilemma.

Image

CHAPTER EIGHT

Moiraine heals Tam, and it takes a lot out of her. Rand reveals that he not only killed a Trolloc, but actually talked to it first. Moiraine straight up tells Rand that Dark One wants him for some reason, and that he better get packed and get some rest, because he's taking his behind right to Tar Valon and behind the Shining Walls, and they are leaving that night.

CHAPTER NINE

Rand does manage to get some sleep, but he is plagued by nightmares, which include a Myrddraal, an faceless, eyeless horror that I'm convinced is Slenderman. YOU CANNOT TELL ME OTHERWISE.

Image

Rand wakes up to the village basically rioting and blaming all their misfortunes on Moiraine and Lan, her Warder, even though they saved the village. They even threaten to burn them out, which is the most strange, since violence is an absolutely alien notion to the Emond's Fielders. Bran and Master Luhhan come to their defense, and Moiraine gives them the best admonishing of all time in the form of the story of the fall of Manetheren, the kingdom that died where the Two Rivers now sits. "Weep for Manetheren. Weep for what is lost forever." In the aftermath of the spell that her storytelling conjures, they leave for the stables, packs in hand, to depart the Two Rivers for Tar Valon.

CHAPTER TEN

First off, let's have a moment of silence for all the suffering that Lan has to put up with. The poor man has the patience of a saint for all the absolute nonsense he has to go through, from having to deal with angry villagers to Moiraine just casually accepting everything to basically babysitting four village kids and one old man on their cross-country trip to Tar Valon. I would have been driven insane by the end of it.
