So, it's February! Snow month for most of you, 80-degree weather in San Diego... the usual. We have some announcements to make, however!

Congratulations to Melina Tashir, the newest Gray Aes Sedai!

And welcome home Badria Aidan, our newest Aspirant!

We've got a few events coming up as well.

The next Gray Chat Weekend will be the weekend of February 20th in #graychat. It usually starts Friday afternoon and goes through Sunday. Everyone is welcome!

We'll also be doing the annual Gray Valentine's Day Matchup soon -- keep an eye out for more details!

How long have you been a member for?

I have been a member (quickly checks his profile) since 14 Jul 2005

What do you like the most about being a member?

To tell you the truth I have never even thought about it. I kinda joined because Mazarin told me once to read the books and he was constantly talking about the TV.net forum…. So I ended up reading and then joining…. and coming back after periods of inactivity… So basically to answer your question after reflecting how I came here and seeing that the question about what I like most about being a member my answer is simple: Yes.

Which forum is your favourite out of them all and why?

This is the Grey Sitting room. No, this is not even a suck up answer to score points with all the Grey Sisters. But its basically because I find it’s a more intimate atmosphere where you can chill in a relaxed atmosphere with a lot of really cool, and might I say interesting, people who I have gotten know during my time on the site. Basically it’s the forum where you can joke around have fun and get to know a select group of people.

Have you been to a real life event?

Despite people constantly bugging me to go to one, no I have not. I might attend events someday when my student life of studying, parties, hangovers and exams permits it! And when I do go… I can out drink you all … and no you may not pie me Greys!!!

Real life to you is…?

Well basically enjoying life, live in the moment, not in the past or the future! Cherish every minute you have, be thankful for the people you meet, learn from experiences, and seize the things in life when you have the opportunity. If time permits it, look back and realize what grateful bastards we all are!

When real life occasionally eats you, as it does to us all, what keeps you coming back?

Reincarnation I guess…. But to be serious would need to say it’s the knowledge in the back of your head that tells you there are other sane people in the world like you, who all happen to have something in common! Or its your Aes Sedai who reminds you at 4 am in the morning on msn to post again on the site!

What were you thinking, bonding a Gray?

True story. At the time I wasn't even thinking about bonding. Eirlys and I had known each other for a short while, had a lot of good and amusing conversations over msn. Then one night I get on msn and she asks me the question about bonding.

At the time I had just got back from a Christmas dinner and I was drunk as hell. I didn't even remember the conversation… It was one of the few times that I had NO recollection of what was going on. So then we were talking again like a week later and I go, `so I haven´t talked to you in like ages!!` She says, `…uhm we talked last week… So have you thought about what I asked you?´ I was like what the hell are you talking about. So I ended up needing to explain that I was drunk as hell the last time we talked and that I remembered nothing! Kind of embarrassing but still… nothing we could do about it! … oh yeah and I agreed and we lived happily ever after.

It was at that moment that I realized that she was a gray. I knew nothing of the grays… or pretty much any of the Ajahs. But If you ask me grays aren't that bad as others make them out to be. Sure they have tails and smell funny… but you kind of get used to it after 3 / 4 months. Nah just joking... grays don't smell…

But I really ask myself what was she thinking when she asked to be bonded to someone from DM! So to answer your question about what I was thinking…. I wasn't… I was drunk! … But even If I were sober when she asked the first time I would have said yes! After all she is the greatest person I know via the site and I am a better person because of her!

What are your hobbies, aside from reading?

Wood-working. Just love building things!

What do you do for work or school in real life?

I am currently in University for engineering and management.

That's all we have time for today folks. Feel the force of Grayt lovin' and enjoy your Valentine's Day. From all of us here at Gray HQ, see y'all next month. We leave you with a quote from our wonderful Duderin Gaidin.

Quote: "To be drunk, is to be sophisticated, but not being able to say it!"

Gray Art of the Month

A lot of the Grays have serious artistic talent. This month, Alyria, Heart of the Gray Ajah, has been awesome enough to let us print one of her poems:

Mermaid

The rocks, the periwinkles

grit under my shoes.

The seaweed slides underfoot,

leaving me limping along

to the break of the washing waves.

Spreading my arms up,

all muscles relax and falling forward

the seaweed pulls me in,

pulls me under.

All is gray and green,

all is cold and dancing

in a rolling regal sway -

and I swell and dance too.

Dragging toes in the sand.

From the floor I float

up to the grit and slipping seaweed,

tossed up by the tide,

cheek against periwinkles and rocks,

wind freezing.

I struggle with the weight of wet.

Following the trail back up,

millions of fish shells, algae,

trailing me and in my hair.

I need air for now.

I'll go back home tomorrow.

Pie of the Month

by Alyria Ess

PAI!

I have some for you.

Butterscotch Pie:

Ingredients: 1 cup of milk plus 2 cups of milk 1 cup of brown sugar 2 or 3 egg yolks 3 tablespoons of corn starch 1 good-sized tablespoon of butter 1 pie shell

You will need a whisk and a microwave.

Method:

Combine 1 cup milk and 1 cup of brown sugar, put in bowl, microwave for a minute and a half until the brown sugar dissolves. Give a stir and forget about it for a minute.

In another bowl, add the three tablespoons of corn starch, two cups of milk, and whisk it together well. Whisk in two eggs yolks, or three, whatever. Beat in milk/brown sugar mixture, and put in microwave for three minutes. Give it another beat with the whisk, and put it back in for three minutes. This is all it took for me, but if your microwave is a little older you might need a few minutes. After the two three minute increments, go about a minute and thirty seconds and check. Don’t go over 9 minutes EVER! Especially in a new microwave. Add a couple globs of butter, and put it in a pie crust. Now, I completely forgot about the butter, and it still turned out fine.

Also, I used skim milk and it's great, so if you want to cut fat and calories, go ahead with the skim.

I made my own crust, which turned out awful! Unless you're practiced at it, go ahead and buy a crust.

Wheel of Time Meme

Our newest Aspirant, Badria Aidan, tried her hand at the WoT meme we introduced last month.

If anyone would like to do one of these and is interested in seeing it in our newsletter, please email it to Liiane@tarvalon.net.

That's it for this month! Happy February to all, and to all a good night.
