  • Why did you choose White?

I chose the order I was going to guest in randomly. White happened to be first, though I changed it around to put Brown last because I was sure I was a Brown. When I started in White, I was welcomed right from the beginning and felt instantly at home. There was nothing specific that White had that the other Ajahs lacked. However, I found that I didn’t have to watch what I posted or try to make sure my posting style fit in with everyone else. I just fit right in seamlessly. Even when I was guesting, I felt like I belonged. Apparently the feeling was mutual because when I Aspired, more than one person told me they’d forgotten I hadn’t actually Aspired yet! White was everything I was looking for in an Ajah and I loved all the Whites I met there. After that, while all the other Ajahs were lovely, they had to compete with White and, for me, they just couldn’t.

  • Are you like the Whites in the Books? Are you a logical woman with no time for emotion in her life?

I’m like the Whites in the books in some ways, but mostly no. The Whites in the books seem very Vulcan-like. Usually when you see them, they’re completely cold and emotionless. Seriously, it’s weird. Although I suppose it makes it easy to identify future Whites in the White Tower since they’re the Accepted who refuse to emote.  :|

However, I do value logic in my daily life. There’s something to be said for being able to look at decisions logically and separate the emotional factors from the logical ones. Both emotion and logic are useful in most decisions, but being able to separate them and not let your emotions take over is certainly useful. Something I like about the Whites at TarValon,Net as opposed to the Whites in the books is how we use our logic. We don’t let it run our lives and we’re certainly not cold and emotionless; we just recognize the importance of incorporating logic into everyday life and the ability the take a step back and look at situations from an objective point of view. It makes our forums a very pleasant place to be. Even when we disagree, we never let it get nasty.

  • Do you have a favorite White Ajah character from the novels?

Warning, spoilers ahead: I honestly don’t remember any Whites off the top of my head besides Alviarin and I’m hesitant to say she’s my favorite because she’s technically Black Ajah, but she is my favorite White, probably because she does get emotional from time to time. I just always enjoyed reading the parts from her point of view and I felt bad for her that she had to deal with Elaida at the height of her craziness.

And he’s not from the novels, but Spock would definitely be a White (at least in the AoL when men were Aes Sedai too) and I am a huge Spock fan, so maybe Spock is my favorite White.

  • How long have you been a fan of the Wheel of Time series?

Since fall 2009, so not very long compared to most people on the site.

  • How did you first get into the series?

My boyfriend at the time is a huge WoT fan and he got me into the series. At first I was borrowing the books from him, but I now own them all on Kindle.

  • Who is your favorite "hero"?

I can't pick just one, so Loial, Moiraine, Aviendha and Matt probably.

  • Favorite bad guy/gal?

Not sure. I never really had a favorite bad guy.

  • Favorite book and scene?

I can’t choose a favorite book since the whole series is basically one long story in my mind and I’m not sure where the divides all are, but my favorite scenes are usually the ones in the White Tower (I loved Egwene’s scenes in the Tower in the later books when she goes back). I also loved anything with the Aiel. The big battle at the White Tower scene was another exciting one for me. I specifically remember that one because I was finished reading it right before class and was actually out-of-breath on the way because I’d been so engrossed in the story.

  • If you were set down in Randland, who/what would you see yourself as? An Aes Sedai? Innkeeper? Seanchan Captain?

My first thought is to say Aes Sedai, but I really don’t want to deal with the hierarchy and arrogance of the White Tower. Perhaps I could be an Aes Sedai who doesn’t live in Tar Valon. I could live somewhere up in the Borderlands and only occasionally have to deal with White Tower politics.

I also think Aiel Wise Ones are really cool, but I don’t really want to live in the Waste either.

  • How did you find TarValon.Net and what convinced you to stay and become a Senior Member?

I don’t remember if I’d finished the books yet or not, but I was at least almost done with books 1-13 and didn’t want them to be over. I fell in love with the idea of being a Brown Aes Sedai and was looking for information about the Brown Ajah and/or a site where I could pretend to be in the Brown Ajah. It led me to the Brown Ajah library page. I don’t think I joined at first, though I don’t remember exactly how it happened. I think later I googled it again and decided to give the site a try this time as a way of continuing to live in the WoT universe after I’d finished the books.

As for why I stayed, I wasn’t sure I would at first. I was kind of disappointed when I joined the community, became a citizen and there wasn’t any place to roleplay. I’ve never done forum RPing before, but since I found the site through the hope of being a Brown Aes Sedai, I was hoping for some place where I could pretend to be in the White Tower at the very least. Though I didn’t wait too long to apply for novicehood, deciding I wanted to stay was actually a slow process. I kept thinking about leaving since I didn’t quite ‘get’ the site and what it was all about. I wasn’t sure if I really fit in and didn’t know if TarValon.Net was what I was looking for or not. I think I mostly stayed at the beginning ‘cause there were a few threads I was following and I wanted to log in to keep up on those. There was no one moment that made me stay, but I started to feel more comfortable on the site, especially after I started playing mafia and getting to know people through the game. I made friends on the site and gradually became more excited about the idea of joining an Ajah… by the time I applied for Acceptedhood, there was no doubt that I was staying and then I found White and the rest is history. :)

  • What do you do in "real life"?

At the moment (March 2014), I’m an assistant language teacher in Japan. I help teach English to students in elementary and middle schools.

  • Do you have any hobbies?

I like reading, writing, knitting/crocheting, video games, studying foreign languages, watching TV/movies...

  • What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

I tend to like all sorts of music, though I’m not usually a fan of rap or hip hop. I mostly listen to rock, but my tastes really vary. I have a lot of genres represented in my music collection. I also enjoy movie/TV soundtracks.

  • What are some of your favorite movies / television shows?

For movies, I enjoy Pixar and Disney movies. Also, while I’m bad at picking favorites, I tend to enjoy scifi, comedy and fantasy movies. I also love Hayao Miyazaki’s films. Some of my favorite TV shows are Star Trek, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, Stargate, The Mentalist, Doctor Who, Community, Parks & Recreation, The Office, Firefly, Castle, Downton Abbey…. Yeah, I watch a lot of TV.

  • Aside from The Wheel of Time, what are a few of your favorite books/series?

Oh so many… Well, I love Douglas Adams. Especially Hitchhiker’s Guide, but his Dirk Gently novels are great too. Anything by Isaac Asimov. The Old Man’s War series by John Scalzi, the Expanse series by James SA Corey, anything by Brandon Sanderson, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Discworld, Harry Potter, and more I’ll probably think of later…

  • What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

I don’t really remember what I wanted to do when I was really young. I’m not sure I really knew. However, when I was in middle school, I loved drawing comics and really wanted to be an animator.
