Lorstrum Aesnan is a Cairhienin nobleman who rose in prominence after Rand left Cairhien, gaining influence by taking the middle ground, neither moving against, nor allying with him. After Elayne strips Arymilla, Elenia and Naean of their lands and titles and offers them to the Cairhienin, he is the first to agree to alliance in the hope of gaining lands in Andor (ToM, Ch. 50). When Birgitte identifies an assassination attempt, he claims it must be left over form an attempt on Rand and no Cairhienin would dream of killing Elayne (ToM, Ch. 51).
