Maredo

Maredo was one of the twenty-four nations that arose either during or shortly after the War of the Hundred Years. It was located in the southern part of the Westlands, with Illian to the west and Tear to the east, where the Plains of Maredo are now located (The World of Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time"). After Maredo disappeared, the borders of both Illian and Tear expanded and then slowly fell back (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 20).

The capital city of Maredo was Far Madding, which still exists today. When Maredo still stood, the First Counsel of Far Madding advised the queens of Maredo; since Maredo has disappeared, the First Counsel generally believes herself to be heir to the rulers of Maredo (Winter's Heart, Chapter 24).

The nation of Maredo had faded away by the year 600 NE (The World of Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time"). All that is left are the Plains of Maredo.

The Plains of Maredo

The Plains of Maredo are located with Illian to the west, Tear to the east, and the Hills of Kintara, and Andor beyond, to the north. The Plains actually extend a little ways into Illian (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

The only city on the Plains of Maredo is Far Madding. There are very few villages, and barely enough farmland to support the people living there. There is also little wood; for building fires, dried ox dung is usually used (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).

Rand gathers an army on the edge of the Plains of Maredo, near the Tairen border (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 4).
