Senior Member Interview

Mariasha Casindred, Senior Member Interview, August 27, 2009

When were you raised to Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah?

March 2005

Why did you choose Gray?

I spent my first bit of time here certain I would go Blue. I see myself as being very Blue, but as I got to know some of the Grays, I also found that I have a significant Gray streak. Another big reason I joined the Grays were the people there. I became friends with several of the Gray Aes Sedai as a novice, working with JALGC and the IRC events. It just was a natural gravitation to the Gray Ajah after that!

Are you like the Grays in the Books?

I am. Unlike many, I enjoy a good confrontation because it is a challenge for me to dissipate or reason out. I like helping people with problems, mediating arguments and negotiating solutions.

Do you love politics and do you like to discuss a lot?

I love politics, and I like discussing them with people who also enjoy discussing them in an adult manner. However, I do, on occasion, find myself to be very passionate about them, and have a hard time pulling myself away from the discussion. I have to police my time in the CE forums very carefully, so if I disappear from them for a while, it's because I can't get distracted by them!

How was your time as Citizen/Novice/Accepted?

Bwahahaha…..I don’t really remember my time as a citizen, because I don’t think it was a real established rank back then…very few stayed citizens as they do now. As a novice, I was infamous for pranking, along with my very best ehvul cohort, Moriendar. I miss that time! I also was very involved in radio shows and JALGC and loved it to death!

How long have you been a member of TV.net?

The day I first found TV.net was on Mother’s birthday in 2004. I hadn’t a clue what was going on. I think I joined that day and became a novice shortly thereafter.

What things do you do for TV.net?

I worked with JALGC and the radio shows for a time, and am now tasked with working on the Gray Community page and I’m very much looking forward to it!

How did you get to read the Series?

I was a freshman in high school and was bored. I randomly picked up The Dragon Reborn, not realizing that it was the third book in a series until about halfway through (yes, I was confused…but intrigued!). Once I found out, I bought them and started from the beginning. I’ve been hooked ever since.

To whom are you bonded, if you're bonded?

Darian Coralis of SDS

Who is your mentee, if you have one?

Satara al'Caelahn

Who is your favorite character of the Series? Favorite Nation?

My favorite character of the series is Moiraine, and my favorite nation is Cairhien. What can I say, I relate!

Have you ever attended any Real Life Functions? Did you like them if you did, and why? (Why do you think people should come to any future functions?)

I went to DragonCon 2004 and New Years 2004, as well as met (and lived!) with many Tower people. It’s really what makes this site all worth it, meeting all these great people and getting to know them as people instead of faceless personalities. Every time you meet a person here, you’re reminded that everyone else is a person behind that avatar. It’s what sets this site apart from the rest of the internet.

What kind of music do you like?

I have a wide range. In general I’m a fan of melodic/symphonic metal and hard rock, particularly with female vocalists. My current favorite bands are Epica, Nightwish, Krypteria, Flyleaf, Skillet, Kamelot, Lacuna Coil, Apocalyptica, and a few others. I’m also a fan of Natalie Merchant, R.E.M., and Tori Amos, as well as classical music, particularly English/Irish/Scottish composers.

What is the craziest/stupidest thing you've ever done?

I have to pick one? Probably took off to D*Con with Wil and Atane, without telling anyone!

What job do you have?

I currently work retail, but I’m studying Emergency Management.

Do you have a pet?

I have a cat, a Manx named Hollywood. She’s neurotic but I love her anyway.

What languages do you speak?

English only, though I can follow Spanish to a small degree.

What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

First I wanted to be a jockey. Then a stunt car driver. Then a bartender.

Lanfear or Moghedien?

Lanfear. Even if she’s a bit blind with power, at least she isn’t a sissy!

Seanchan or Shara?

Seanchan.

Candles or lamps?

Candles!

Party or lounging at home?

Lounging, unless it’s a Tower party.

A short bio about yourself.

I’m finishing up my degree in Crisis and Disaster Management and hope to work with State Emergency Management here in Missouri. I love the outdoors and am an avid researcher of the history of Missouri, as well as our family’s genealogy. I also love to read and write fiction. Some of my favs, besides WoT are Sword of Truth and Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series.
