This week’s Member Spotlight features the current Company Commander of Dai M’Hael, the awesome and hilarious Vendri al'Varrak! As the former Editor of the Tar Valon Times, I was happy to step in as a guest interviewer for this article about my fabulous husband.

Vendri is originally from the state of Tennessee but says, “I currently live in Maryland with my wife, Maibella, and our three dogs Bela, Copper, and Penny.” But don’t let him fool you – Vendri would have many, many more dogs if it were up to him!

When asked how he spends his time, Vendri says, “by day I’m an HR Compliance Specialist, specifically in regards to I-9 and E-Verify compliance with some immigration thrown in. [Other than that] I’m a big fan of all things videogame related. From talking about lore, to playing, to even just watching other people play — gaming is pretty much what I’d rather be doing 90% of the time. I’m also a big fan of music. I love to sing in the car, in the shower, pretty much anywhere as long as other people can’t hear me. I used to sing for a church youth band though.”

Vendri “found TarValon when randomly googling Wheel of Time stuff one night when I worked 3rd shift security. I believe it was a link provided when I was looking at DragonCon. I joined and got to know a bunch of different people, from my Sedai, Nymala, to my wonderful wife, Maibella, and a ton of people in between.” Vendri was super active in IRC when it was still a thing, and he often chatted with Nymala and Wil and others during his overnight shift. He was also a part of the Brandsworn, which was a group of (mostly) junior members who excelled at shenanigans.

We all like to hear how someone found their home in their Ajah or Company. On that topic, Vendri shares that “DM was and still is a comfortable place to be. Everyone was friendly, liked to joke around, and made sure you felt welcomed in any thread whether you’d been there a day or a year. We were all spammy back then, so it was easy to make friends and have a good time.” Another great thing about DM is that if you’re bonded in to the Company, you’re considered a part of the Company – no matter how you got there, you’re in.

Vendri attended Fall Ball in 2013 and 2018, and JordanCon and Anni in 2015. He hopes to attend Anni 2022, and other future events as well. Wherever he goes, you’re sure to find lots of great jokes and laughs! ————————————– Note: Maibella ni Rhoiden t'al'Varrak was the Editor of The Tar Valon Times from May 1, 2015 – September 23, 2019. She is currently serving as Head of the Gray Ajah, and was featured in our Member Spotlight series in June 2021, linked here.
