The Taren is a river in Andor, flowing from its source in the Mountains of Mist until it joins the Manetherendrelle at the eastern edge of the Two Rivers. It is a fast flowing river, wide in parts and generally impassable, except for the ferry at Taren Ferry (Map). During the time of the Compact of the Ten Nations, it was part of the nation of Manetheren, where it was known as the Tarendrelle (TEotW, Ch. 5). Taren Ferry is the only village on the river, and is subject to flooding when melt water from the Mountains of Mist causes it to break its banks (TEotW, Ch. 11). The river here is wide enough to be difficult to see across (TEotW, Ch. 12).
