A Pleasant Ride

Setting: The countryside north of Ebou Dar, the Kin's farm

Point of view: Elayne

What could have been a pleasant ride through the countryside for Elayne quickly turns sour. For one thing Aviendha finds out that Elayne did not receive her message. The way she tells off the Sea Folk woman who was supposed to carry it, what she thinks of that doesn't sit well with the Sea Folk. Adeleas suggests that the Sea Folk's peculiar ideas on Aiel could be used to keep them in check.

It doesn't stop there, though. The Kin are still trying to get Elayne to hand over Ispan to the Aes Sedai, with the excuse that she needs to be interrogated this time. After the Kin have taken their turn at trying to influence Elayne they are replaced with Aes Sedai. All of their priorities seem distractions from the real job ahead and an increasingly annoyed Elayne sends them all away. Nynaeve is no help either, still fussing over Lan. This reminds Elayne of Rand and makes the ride even more miserable for her.

When they finally approach the Kin's farm Elayne summons Reanne, thinking it better to let them see a familiar face first. She'll be glad when this is taken care of so she can see to some long overdue duties in Caemlyn, where she intends to head next.
