MM: Posting Guidelines

From Tar Valon Library
Jump to: navigation, search

Here is a list of our current more public forums and general posting guidelines for each. Please remember that all your interactions, whether in General or in Senior Members, should conform to our Code of Conduct. In most forums, Citizens, Resident Citizens, and Junior Members must use the titles of Senior Members. Please keep spam (i.e. posts that have no point) to a minimum, particularly in forums that have a specific purpose.

The Amyrlin Seat, Keeper of Chronicles, Director of Membership, Director of Moderators, and Director of Technology are all global moderators, which means they can see into every forum, but only the first two have permission to post in every single forum.

TarValon.Net Community

This grouping contains forums that specifically deal with TarValon.Net.

Site Announcements

Announcements regarding our website, community, and administration. Check often to keep current on community news such as bondings, raisings, position openings, and other important information. Posting rights are restricted in this forum; only particular administrators may start threads. If you feel there is something site related that you would like announced, please email the Keeper. This does not include personal items such as real life engagements, weddings, or other things that are not site-related. All registered members have access to this forum.

Introductions

Are you new to TarValon.Net? Come in and introduce yourself! Start a new thread, join the party, and read the stickies. All registered users have access to this forum.

Ask The White Tower

TarValon.Net's help forum. Please state clearly your question in the topic (as opposed to a topic of 'Help!' or something equally vague or unrelated to the question). This is the fastest way to get help. Please check to see if your question has been asked before. The search function is a great means of quickly checking to see if your question has already been answered! All registered users have access to this forum.

Community

These forums are associated mainly with interests other than the Tower and ,em.The Wheel of Time,/em..

General

General serves as our catch-all forum. If it doesn't fit into any other forum, it probably goes here. Please do not post threads directed at one person in this forum (including any birthday posts); that is what email, PMs or IMs are for. This includes birthday posts. All community membership usergroups have access to this forum.

Technology and Media

Want to talk about music, software, movies, or TV shows? Want to geek out on the latest hardware? Have a technical question? This is the forum for you! Anything related to either technology or media should go here. All community membership usergroups have access to this forum.

Frivolous Fun

There is always some sort of game or joke in this forum! If you're looking for something to laugh at or just pass some time, this is a great forum to do it in! All community membership usergroups have access to this forum.

Current Events

Current Events is the forum to discuss anything that happens in the news, any current events, politics, and anything else that could be considered controversial. Because this forum has the highest probability of members offending each other, the rules for posting in this forum are more stringent.

Flaming or anything resembling flaming is not allowed. Please refrain from deliberately inflammatory or sarcastic comments. No name-calling, either of participants or of other people. Our community houses people from all of the world and all along the political, social, and economic scales. As such, things you might feel are 'stupid' or 'worthless' are very important to someone else. Be respectful of the fact that other people have opinions and that those opinions are valid as well. Stay on topic.

Titles for Senior Members are not required in this forum. This is a discussion and debate forum; we all come to that table as equals.

For more in-depth rules, please see the sticky in the Current Events forum.

All community membership usergroups can view the forum, but only those who have requested access to post in the forum by emailing the Director of Moderators have access to post in this forum.

Job Hunters

This forum is run by our Department of Administration and our Department of Moderators. It exists to provide Tower members with a place to get help on finding jobs, whether it's resume-building or interview tips. Because of the nature of some information posted, this is a request-only forum; email the Director of Administration. No titles are required in this forum.

Events Forums

Most of these forums exist to facilitate planning of our Official Events and Conferences. Each Official Event has its own forum, and all of our Conferences share one forum. This allows information to be released in a timely manner in a consistent location that is relevant to those who wish to know it. There is one forum that allows our members to plan local gatherings. TarValon.Net takes no responsibility for these gathering, as they are strictly member-coordinated and executed.

The Tower Library

These forums are some of our most intellectual--they're where we discuss theories about various series ad nauseum, and The Wheel of Time books in particular.

Wheel of Time Discussion Forums

Discuss your theories, and get answers to your questions for The Wheel of Time series. One important rule for these (and all) forums: no spoilers. The title of each discussion forum states which books should be discussed in that particular forum, and we mean it. We have a lot of members who have not read far into the series, and these forums serve as places for them to discuss the series without spoilers. The only forum in which you may discuss New Spring is the last The Wheel of Time discussion forum.

Please keep discussions friendly--no fighting or yelling. All of our book discussion forums are for serious book discussion, so please try to keep silly threads like "Bela is the Creator" to a minimum. Relevant thread topics will garner you a faster response. As with our "Ask the Aes Sedai" forum, the search function is a wonderful resource; use it before posting to see if there is already a thread relevant to what you'd like to discuss. All registered have access to these forums.

Non-WOT - Literature and Fiction

This section of the Library is dedicated to discussing literature not associated with The Wheel of Time. Don't flame people, don't insult anyone on their choice of books, etc. As with the other forums, the search function is a wonderful resource; use it before posting to see if there is already a thread relevant to what you'd like to discuss. If there's already a thread about the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, please do not start another one. Also, relevant thread topics will garner you a faster response; it pays to include the title of the book or series you're discussing in the thread topic. All registered users have access to this forum.

The Classroom

The Classroom is home to the classes that are available for members of the Tower. Citizens can see and follow along with the classes but cannot participate--that is a privilege only for Novices/Recruits and up. Generally, Accepted/Soldiers teach classes for the Novices/Recruits, but occasionally a Senior Member will teach a class that is open to all Junior Members. These classes are not mandatory to be raised within the Tower; they are meant to be a resource. Novice, Recruit, Accepted, Soldier, Aes Sedai, and Gaidin usergroups can post in this forum. Citizens may read the forum but cannot post.

Functions

These forums are for planning our official and unofficial events.

Official Party forums

Forums for our official events are put into place 3-6 months before the event. The forum description will include the dates and location of the event. Each forum will include information about the event, such as how to register, how much your ticket will cost, what the ticket will include, other pertinent information, and lots of posts about how excited we are about the upcoming event. Sometimes more personal information, such as phone numbers, is posted in these forums; please respect that information.

Local Functions

While a good portion of our members have not attended an official function, a significant portion of our members have met others through unofficial local functions. Many such get-togethers are posted in our Local Functions forum. These events are not hosted by TarValon.Net. All events posted in this forum are considered to be open invitation, meaning that you cannot discriminate who can come based on any federally protected status or any status mentioned in our Bylaws. If you want to be selective as to who may attend, you should use alternate methods for planning your event.

The City Square

This grouping of forums contains those forums related to our city.

City Hall

City Hall is the administrative forum for the City and its Citizens. This forum is mainly used to house important information for Citizens (such as Citizen clean-ups or how to apply to the Tower) and to inform Citizens that they have been called to the Tower. Please only post things related to the administrative workings of the City in this forum. Citizen, Accepted, Soldier, Aes Sedai, and Gaidin usergroups can post in this forum. Novice and Recruit usergroups can see but not post in this forum. If you have been called to the Tower, do not post in this forum, even if you are still in the Citizen usergroup!

The Olde Warder and Hen

The Olde Warder and Hen has been a staple at TarValon.Net since its inception. This forum is one of our most laid-back forums. People from all ranks come together to have fun and just hang out. It's a good place to get to know the Ajahs and Companies as well--each group has a table for themselves. Citizen, Accepted, Soldier, Aes Sedai, and Gaidin usergroups have access to this forum.

The Apartments

This forum has appeared and disappeared a few times at TarValon.Net. Now it is back to provide a place for those who are long-time members to mingle. Senior Citizens, Aes Sedai, and Gaidin usergroups have access to this forum.
