Just before being raised Aes Sedai, Moiraine and Siuan overhear Gitara announce the rebirth of the Dragon. After they are raised, Tamra and the women she had recruited to search for the child all die and Moiraine and Siuan realise they are the only ones who can find him. Moirane heads to Chachin, meeting Lan on the way, to look for the Dragon Reborn. She meets Siuan who tells her the Black Ajah exists and is hunting the Dragon Reborn. She kills one of them, Merean, and bonds Lan.
