The Gathering Storm is the twelfth book in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series. This is also book one of three that have been written by Brandon Sanderson using Jordan's notes. The initial plan was for the final book to be called Memory of Light and to immediately follow Knife of Dreams. However, once Sanderson took over, it turned out that a single volume might become too big and the decision to split it resulted in publishing three more volumes of the series - The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light.

The Gathering Storm was initially published on October 27 2009, two years after Jordan's passing. It consists of a prologue, 50 chapters, and an epilogue. Sanderson also wrote a forward, describing how he got the call from Harriet about finishing the books.

The audiobook, narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, is 32 hours and 58 minutes long.
