General

Tumad Ahzkan was a Saldaean lieutenant from Davram Bashere's estates in Tyr. He was young, hatchet-nosed and a head taller than Bashere, with heavy shoulders, a black beard and thick mustaches. The way he walked showed he was more used to riding than his own feet (LoC, Ch. 1; CoT, Prologue).

Bashere was sure Ahzkan had a high potential in soldiering, and thus gave him chances to expand his skills (CoT, Prologue).

Timeline

  • He entered the courtyard of the Royal Palace in Caemlyn, where Rand was holding audience with Bashere and the Andoran nobles, to announce that Taim was at the gates (LoC, Ch. 1). On Bashere's command, Ahzkan and four other soldiers brought Taim into the courtyard (LoC, Ch. 2).
  • He fought the Seanchan with Bashere's men. He accompanied Bashere, Bael, the Aiel and the Saldaeans when they were scouting the camps of the armies that lay siege on Caemlyn (CoT, Prologue).
  • After the attack on Deira, he reported to Bashere that the assailers were found dead. Bashere then sent him to Logain to agree to his plans (CoT, Prologue).

Quotes

"He walked like a man more used to a saddle under him than his own feet, but he handled the sword at his hip smoothly as he bowed. To Bashere, more than to Rand. Bashere might follow the Dragon Reborn, but Tumad - Rand thought that was his name; Tumad Ahzkan - followed Bashere." (Rand about Ahzkan; Lord of Chaos, Chapter 1)

"Without a pause Taim slipped to one knee. 'I submit to the Dragon Reborn. I will serve and obey.' The corners of his mouth quivered again in that almost smile as he rose. Tumad gaped at him." (Taim to Rand; Lord of Chaos, Chapter 2)

"Tumad had command of the escort, as he did most days Bashere did not have something more important for the young lieutenant to do. Bashere was grooming him. He could think clearly and see beyond what was in front of him; he was destined for higher rank, if he lived long enough." (Bashere; Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue)

"Ahzkan here had a bright future ahead of him. But you could say the same of a lot of dead men." (Bashere to Rand; Knife of Dreams, Chapter 20)
