Rand hears [[Tam|his father]]'s voice, telling him to let go, then [[Egwene]]'s telling him that he must allow other people to sacrifice as well. He lets go of the guilt at not protecting them and the need to do so. He lets go of the list he had carried, that had once been the women who had died for him, but which had grown into all people who had. [[Ilyena]] was the last, and he feels as though a giant weight has been lifted from his shoulders. He stands up once more to face [[the Shadow]].

Shendla looks down to see that [[Demandred]] is dead, and announces it. The battlefield seems to grow still.

Rand looks outside of time and sees the [[Dark One]] not as a being, but a force as wide as the universe. He feels more attacks coming from the Dark One, but shrugs them off, thinking that if those fighting won't give in, why should he? He seeks the [[Flame and the Void|void]] and tells the Dark One that he doesn't control the world.

Loial returns to the northern end of the [[Heights]] to tell Mat that [[Demandred]] and [[Lan]] are dead. Mat leads the charge.
