Aran was an Ogier; he was the son of Malan and the grandson of Senar. He was born circa 50 AB. Aran was an Ogier writer, noted for his strict honesty and his unwillingness to cite any sources that he could not verify. Aran was the first person to suggest that Ishamael was only partially trapped in the Bore when Lews Therin Telamon and his Companions sealed the Dark One's prison. Parts of Aran's manuscript have been found; in it he quotes Aes Sedai who lived during the Breaking who claimed there were sightings and encounters of Ishamael after the Bore was sealed. Aran speculated that it took a number of years for Ishamael to be sealed in completely. His manuscript was never finished but the last pages of it suggest that Aran had become doubtful of his own thesis by the end.
