General

Corien Saeldain is an Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah who sides with Elaida when the White Tower splits. She leads the White Tower delegation to Rand until Galina takes over the escort. They have the Younglings with them as a Royal Escort.

Coiren is plump, stately and pompous. She talks like she is making a speech and is very sure of herself. She has a good mind (LoC Prologue, Ch27).

Timeline

  • Coiren leads the first team of the White Tower embassy (consisting of her, Erian, Galina, Katerine, Nesune and Sarene) to Rand. They meet with three Shaido Wise Ones, and Coiren makes a deal with Sevanna concerning Rand (LoC, Prologue).
  • Coiren and her embassy arrive in the city of Cairhien (LoC,Ch24). In Cairhien, they stay at Lady Arilyn's palace (LoC,Ch25).

  • Coiren, Galina and Nesune meet Rand in the Sun Palace, offering him gold and an escort to the White Tower. Afterwards they discuss the fact that there was a hidden woman who could channel in the room with them during the meeting (LoC,Ch27).
  • Coiren writes letters to Rand, asking him for an audience. He finally grants her an audience, saying that she may only bring two other Aes Sedai with her (LoC,Ch50).
  • Coiren and the Aes Sedai with her kidnap Rand. With Rand in their possession, Galina takes over (LoC,Ch51).
  • Coiren, Erian, Katerine, Nesune and Sarene are captured and held prisoner by the Asha'man at Dumai's Wells (LoC,Ch55; ACoS,Ch1).
  • Coiren is one of the Aes Sedai that is held in the Wise Ones camp outside of Cairhien. She is da'tsang (TPoD,Prologue).
  • Verin sees Coiren laboring (TPoD,Prologue).

Relationships

Gawyn doesn't know how he feels about Coiren and the Aes Sedai with her. She has made him swear to hold his mission secret (LoC,Prologue).

Egwene thinks that Rand was overbearing with Coiren (ACoS,Ch9).

Most of the White Tower blames Coiren and her embassy for the rumors of sisters obeying Rand and for the failure of the embassy (CoT,Prologue,Ch21).

Miscellaneous

  • Coiren is a good negotiator as a Gray, and she likes to have things done (LoC,Prologue).
  • Coiren thinks that Rand will come to them willingly (LoC,Prologue).
  • Rhuarc believes that Coiren knows Arilyn (LoC,Ch25).
  • Egwene asks Gawyn not to tell Coiren that she's in Cairhien (LoC,Ch25).
  • Acording to Nesune, Coiren always states the obvious (LoC,Ch27).
  • Perrin tells Bera and Kiruna that Coiren and her Aes Sedai kidnapped Rand (LoC,Ch54).

Quotes

"What troubles her, Sarene, is a rumor that Galina heard, a rumor that a Green sister was in Tear with young Rand al'Thor and is now here in Cairhien." (LoC,Ch25)

"I have the honor," she announced in ringing tones, "to be Coiren Saeldain Aes Sedai, Ambassador from the White Tower and emissary of Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, the Watcher of the Seals, the Flame of Tar Valon, the Amyrlin Seat." (To Rand, LoC,Ch27)

"The Amyrlin Seat is, of course, most generous. When you reach the White Tower?" (To Rand, LoC,Ch27)

"We have no more confirmation than we already had, not of Moiraine. It may be this mysterious Green. As far as finding whoever it is, I agree, but we must consider the rest carefully. I will not risk everything that has been so carefully planned. We must be aware that al'Thor is connected to this sister ** whoever she may be ** and that his plea for time may be only a strategy. Fortunately, we have time." (To Galina, LoC,Ch27)

"I very much wanted you to come to Tar Valon on your own, but it became obvious you only intended to put us off. I suppose that you have had some contact from those poor fools who fled after the Sanche woman was stilled. Did you really believe they could offer you anything? As against the White Tower?" (To Rand, LoC,Ch51)
