The Europarties are our equivalent of the Anniversary/Fall Ball for Europe.  We currently have two per year, one for the UK and Island, in winter, and one for all of Europe in summer. This is mostly because whenever in the past we tried to host winter parties in mainland Europe, the Brits wouldn't go and tended to set up informal rival parties instead, which drained the life out of the official ones.
