The Great Rift is a rift in the earth, running from the Cliffs of Dawn to the Aryth Ocean, over about four hundred and fifty leagues, separating the Aiel Waste from Shara. The rift itself varies, from one to three miles in depth and is bordered on either side by badlands and mountains, making it essentially impassable.
