Senior Member Interview, January 13, 2010

What is your Tower name?

Ilenna Aramiz

When were you raised to Aes Sedai of the White Ajah?

March 24th, 2006

Why did you choose White?

It just made sense.

Are you like the Whites in the Books?

I think so. You really do not get a good look at the Whites in most of the earlier books. Am I cold and unfeeling? No. Neither are the book Whites. I am, in fact, a very emotional person. However, I can usually pause and realize when I am reacting to something emotionally versus with good common sense.

Are you like a rock and have a serene face all the time?

Hardly. I laugh so hard I snort, my face lights up with mischevious glee at the idea of childish pranks, and chances are, I will have tears streaming down my face when I watch a movie - any movie. That said, if I need to control my reactions because I am in a work meeting or in front of a class I am teaching, I can certainly do that while maintaining proper Aes Sedai serenity.

How was your time as Citizen/Novice/Accepted?

I don't really remember much about my time as Citizen. It was so long ago and for such a short period of time... most of it spent eagerly anticipating becoming a novice. I thoroughly enjoyed being a Novice. Everything was still new and exciting... new threads, new roommates, new rules and new ways to break them. However, trying to pick an Ajah as an Accepted was utterly agonizing. I wish that we Guesting existed back then - it would have made the process easier.

How long have you been a member of TV.net?

Since September 27th, 2005

What things do you do for TV.net?

At the moment... not much. That will hopefully change soon. In the past I have been a mentor, a Sitter for the White Ajah, formatted recipes as a (former) member of the Innkeepers' Guild, and used HTML to code links into Library articles. When regular life allows me more than fifteen minutes to be online, I make a distinct effort to welcome new members and recognize the accomplishments of others.

How did you get to read the Series?

Hmm... It's been twenty years now so let me think for a second. Back then I read nearly a book a day. I read through the entire fantasy section of our public library that summer and I believe that the Eye of the World was one of the books in a stack that I brought home one day. After that, I painstakingly saved my allowance of a dollar a week while waiting with excruciating patience for each new book to appear on the shelves.

To whom are you bonded, if you're bonded?

I am not bonded at this time.

Who is your mentee, if you have one?

I don not have a mentee at this time.

Who is your favorite character of the Series? Favorite Nation?

My favorite character is either Min or Matt. I love Matt's mischevious manner and the fact that, while he constantly tries to avoid responsibility, he always chooses to do the right thing. However, I see more of myself in Min than any other character. As for country... I could debate the merits of them all, as well as the disadvantages, but I don't believe I actually have a favorite.

Have you ever attended any Real Life Functions? Did you like them if you did, and why? (Why do you think people should come to any future functions?)

Not yet... but I am eagerly anticipating Anni this year in Wisconsin Dells. I have met other members in the past and I think that meeting people in person helps deapen the connection that you feel to the community.

What kind of music do you like?

There is not a specific genre of music I like... I just like good music. One thing that I would like to note, however, is that I have extreme difficulty understanding the lyrics to songs - as in I often cannot tell if they are in English or not - and tend to judge music more by whether or not I like the overall sound rather than what the lyrics mean. In generaly, I tend to not like country. My favorite song is Aquaus Transmission by Incubus, my favorite singer is Frank Sinatra and my favorite group is Led Zepplin. As a flute player, I prefer baroque music for solos and military marches for large ensembles.

What are your favorite movies?

It depends on my mood. I could maybe limit it to a top five list for each genre. That requires more effort than I am willing to put forth at this time.

What job do you have?

I am Banker Connection Learning and Development Specialist with Wells Fargo Bank N.A. What this more or less means is that I use multiple media to develop and teach banking policy, procedure, systems and search methods to people who never speak to customers but are available for bankers to call for policy/procedure support and problem solving assistance. It is amazingly similar to teaching in a public school system but with a slightly better budget.

Do you have a pet?

Pet? I thought those were just really furry children! Yes. My fiance and I have two cats that are nine months old. My girl kitty is a very stripey calico named Bella - as in Bella Athena or 'Beautiful Goddess of War', not Bella from Twilight. My fiance's boy kitty is called Goblin. Goblin is clearly a lover, not a fighter. The kitties are very lucky that they are so cute as they often get themselves into trouble.

What languages do you speak?

English. I wish that was a larger a list but the two or three words I know of other languages are less than what the average toddle picks up from Sesame Street.

What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

When I was younger I wanted to grow up to be the curiator of a museum of midievil artifacts. I grew up and got a degree in Anthropology-Archaeology. Now I work in a bank but absolutely love what I do. How did that work?

Randland or our world?

Have you seen what is going on in Randland right now? I may badly wish I could really channel, but our world is arguably better off right now than Randland.

Alviarin or Seaine?

Seaine.

Books or movies?

It used to be books without a doubt. Now... when I actually get a chance to read I am generally too tired to do so and end up watching a movie instead.

Lamps or Candles?

Candles.

A short bio about yourself.

I have a degree in Anthropology-Archaeology and am one class shy of another degree in Social Studies education. I love to travel, scrapbook and do taekwondo and play the flute. I strongly dislike talking on the phone and feel extremely awkward in chat rooms. That said, I am a very open about myself in person/posts/PMs.

In September I will marry another member of the tower, Nico Demus. I dream of building my own home, having a family and writing books.

Both in real life and our community, I am Dar d'jenn tia - a Sister of Truth.
