Literary Showdown!
Author: Kessa Toireann
On an ordinary February day, a hush fell over the Tower. Suddenly, the inhabitants of TarValon.Net were transformed into beasts, heroes, and villains straight from their favorite books and stories! What was the Tower to do to handle this unique situation?
An epic showdown to prove the mightiest characters of them all seemed the only solution. An arena was built and bouts were arranged. After three rounds of intense battling and outwitting one another, the Gray Ajah, transformed into Fairytale Villains, were victorious.
There were many highlights as characters caused story worlds to collide. Harry Potter and his companions crossed magic with the characters of Song of Ice and Fire. The Gods of Roman Mythology took down the ladies of Jane Austin. In an unusual turn, the Fairy Tale Villains were victorious over the Comic Characters. Alice in Randland won over Star Wars with a rhyme while those of Lord of the Rings defeated Cthulu with some disturbing commentary about squid for dinner. The ladies of Shakespeare “for soothed” their way to charming James Bond and the Goddesses smite the poor Babysitter’s Club.
Round 2 brought our victorious characters together for even more intense battles of cunning and power. Alice in Randland and Middle Earth fought a brutal battle against the Fairy Tale Villains while the Goddesses danced and rapped their way to victory over their Ancient Mythology counterparts.
The final round was intense. The students and other inhabitants from Hogwarts found themselves surrounded by Goddesses and Villains. As any truly epic battle should, they ended dancing in chocolate and whipped cream. After the judges deliberated, the Gray Ajah took first place, the Green Ajah took second, and the Accepted ended in third.
It was truly a Free Week to remember. Even though the characters transformed back into their usual forms, they will surely always remember the fun, fellowship, and kick-butt action experienced thanks to our Outreach Activities Team and many awesome members that made this week possible.
