Lopar are one of the Seanchan exotics, taken from worlds accessed via the Portal Stones to fight Shadowspawn. They are large, around fifteen hundred to two thousand pounds. They have six toes on each paw, with retractable claws and can pull a man from horseback when standing on their back legs and over short distances may run as well as a horse, though tire easily.

Lopar are a little more intelligent than a dog, perhaps equivalent to a Torm, and easily trained. These features make them excellent bodyguards, used by the Blood to protect children and they are considered the premier fighting animal. They are usually placid, except when mating or establishing dominance with other Lopar. Suroth had a Lopar named Almandaragal (ACoS, Ch. 26)
