A Threat

Author: Asandra al'Terra

Characters: Min, Rand, Enaila, Somara, Sulin, Melaine

Setting: Caemlyn

Points of view: Min, Rand,

Min's point of view

Min is in Caemlyn, finally arrived with some of the Aes Sedai from Salidar. She is going to see Rand - she had snuck away one hour before she was to leave to see him.

As she dismounts in front of the palace, she tells one of the Maidens by the name of Enaila that she knows Rand and wishes to see him. She is led inside, where, after Enaila goes to see if Rand really knows Min, and if it is alright for her to come in - she is welcomed to the throne room. There was a gathering of nobles, and they all slowly exit. She sees an aura around Rand that makes her stomach twist.

Rand's point of view

Rand is overjoyed that Min is in Caemlyn. He runs to her, catching her and spinning her in the air. Afterwards, he leads her to his rooms to speak, escorted by two Aiel - Somara and Enaila - who guard his doors. He receives a letter from Elayne through Min, then upsets her when first he talks of his love of both Elayne and Aviendha in front of her, and then by saying he does not look at her as a woman. Min sits in his lap to prove she is a woman.

After Sulin enters with wine, then takes her leave, talk turns to the Aes Sedai Min came with; it turns out there is an embassy of nine. Rand agrees to let up to three come at once; but they may not enter the Inner City without his permission. Min then tells Rand about her viewing - and aura of yellow, brown and purple; she knows it means channelers will hurt him, probably Aes Sedai. She admits that she does not know for sure whether that excludes the Aes Sedai she came with.

A few moments later, Melaine - a Wise One - enters, telling she bears news; first, that Egwene has left for Salidar, and the second, that which Min has brought. Min then has a Viewing that Melaine will have twin girls; this leads to her explaining her talent. Melaine begins to treat her as if she were another Wise One.

Afterwards, Min tells of the Embassy she has come with in detail; Rand promises that he will treat them with respect, but without kneeling; and, for Melaine, that he will not trust them until they prove loyal.

Melaine leaves, then, to tell her husband of her pregnancy; she promises Min that one of her daughters will be named for her. Min and Rand are left alone, feeling awkward.
