This month we are talking to a dedicated member of our mafia community who can be found in most games and discussions within the mafia forum, Elysande Greywood.

Interview Questions

Have you modded any games at Tar Valon? If so, what ones?

Not yet, but I've got a StarCraft-themed role-madness game on the waiting list.

What is your favourite game that you have played here?

Tough call, but probably Arie's bastard Firefly game. Ty's Princess Bride game ended up being pretty fun, too, and the post limit worked better than I expected. In general, I think player activity levels, far more than anything the mod does, will make or break a game.

Do you prefer to be town or mafia?

I haven't gotten to play as mafia yet, so . . . I'll have to let you know. ^^ I suspect I'd enjoy being mafia, though, especially with the right teammates.

What is your favourite role?

Favorite role that I've gotten to play so far was probably fisherman, in the Firefly and X-Wing games. Favorite role(s) in terms of entertainment value would probably be the weird ones, like Nexus, Bus Driver, or Friendly Neighbor.

Conversely, I'm not a fan of the vigilante role, because it reads like a powerful pro-town role on paper, but in addition to being kind of boring, it usually ends up being at least as harmful as helpful for the innocents. Also not a fan of Serial Killers or anything else that results in too much acceleration of the death count, though I imagine those roles do work better in truly large games.

Who is your favourite person to lynch and why?

I'm not sure this is an entirely healthy question for publication. :look But honestly I have no strong feelings about the lynch itself. I guess if forced to give an answer, I'd say whoever's least active, or maybe whoever I find least entertaining that game.

Mafia tidbits of the month: Calling your shot

An interesting concept I once played in years ago was to call your shots in the game, and winners gained points by successfully pulling off their planned plays. The way it worked was like this: You sent a PM to the game mod telling them what you planned to do (get a player lynched, pull off a gambit, do a fake role reveal, etc) and depending on what you want the mod would assign a certain number of points to the move. If you successfully pull it off you gain those points, and at the end of the game the winner is the player with the most points.
