General

Melanril of House Asegora is a minor Tairen lord. He had dark eyes, a sharp nose and an oiled, pointed beard (TFoH, Ch. 43).

He was arrogant and a fool who did not know the real meaning of fighting, except maybe in the sense of a tavern brawl (TFoH, Ch. 43).

Timeline

  • He was one of the two younger lords to accompany High Lord Weiramon as he spoke with Rand (TFoH, Ch. 41).
  • Both of them accompanied Weiramon to his meeting with Rand and the Aiel clan chiefs (TFoH, Ch. 42).
  • On his way from Cairhien, Mat encountered Tairen forces led by Melanril and Estean and Cairhienin forces led by Daerid and Talmanes; they were sent out by Rand, who has put Melanril in charge of them. Mat warned them of a trap and rode with them against the Shaido (TFoH, Ch. 43).
  • Melanril died in battle and Nalesean took over the Tairen cavalry, because he was second in command (TFoH, Ch. 44).

Quotes

"Melanril was off with only his bannerman, laying about with his blade. Two Aiel darted in to neatly hamstring the lordling's horse; it fell, head flailing — Mat was sure it screamed, but the din swallowed it — and then Melanril vanished behind cadin'sor-clad figures, spears stabbing. The bannerman lasted a moment longer.

Good riddance, Mat thought grimly."
