Atarah al'Norahn

General

Rakim is a grizzled Saldaean soldier. He has a hoarse voice and a ragged scar, both which he received when he took an Aiel arrow in the throat a year ago (New Spring, Chapter 1).

Rakim considers himself lucky to be alive, and thinks that since he has cheated death once, he can do it again. He likes to boast about his luck (New Spring, Chapter 1).

Rakim is one of the soldiers in Lan's company during the Aiel War (New Spring, Chapter 1).

Timeline

  • On the last real night of the Aiel War, Rakim leads the messenger of Lord Emares to Lan (New Spring, Chapter 1).
  • Lan's company, Rakim included, is near Kinslayer's Dagger scouting for Aiel. While Lan is looking around for Aiel, Rakim makes a comment about Kinslayer's Dagger, thinking that it's the Spine of the World (New Spring, Chapter 12).

Quotes

"A grizzled Saldaean named Rakim, he had received that voice a year back, along with a ragged scar that he liked to show off when drinking, from an Aiel arrow in the throat. Rakim considered himself lucky to be alive, and he was. Unfortunately, he also believed that having cheated death once, he would continue to do so. He took chances, and even when not drinking, he boasted about his luck, a fool thing to do. There was no point to taunting fate." (Lan; New Spring, Chapter 1).

"Are those the Spine of the World?" Rakim called in that rasping voice. "Impressive, but somehow I thought they'd be taller." (Rakim; New Spring, Chapter 12).
